I'd say it's happiness, in a personal way. I want to share my life with someone and I know I'm happy, but it feels like there's something missing. Imagine a woman with a half a heart and a man with half a heart (or woman and woman or man and man). They can live their entire lives happy, not necessarily needing a significant other to be happy. However, if they do find the love of their lives, those two half hearts become one and so does their initial happiness. It's not the idea that having a boyfriend or girlfriend is the definition of happiness, it's just that it leads to a form of happiness different from a person that is alone.
