40 Relatable And Funny Comics This Artist Creates About Her Life, Mental Issues And Other Situations
Interview With ArtistSilly situations happen to all of us. From clumsy mistakes, to meeting strange people, we can all relate one way or another. That's why comics portraying those kinds of situations are so popular among artists. They want to show you that you're not alone in this world. That we all run into similar problems.
That's exactly what artist Evie Hilliar does with her comics. She illustrates everyday situations, problems she runs into and doubts she has. The artist told Bored Panda: "I was pretty much raised by the internet—I grew up reading funny comic strips online and so when I started drawing, comics came naturally to me. I love drawing comics and sharing them—it’s definitely a way to express myself. Even the stupidest dumb thought, through a comic, can be accessible and relatable to so many more people than I would ever think possible."

This artist's style is very colorful, fun, and happy most of the time; however, when she touches upon more serious topics, like mental issues, she changes her style into a more detailed, serious-toned one with black and white line art. That's a great way to show the readers that the topics of her illustrations have changed. Evie has at least 3 of these types of styles she draws in, every style belonging to comics with a different theme and topics they cover.
The artist talked with Bored Panda and told us what the main goal of the illustrations is: "With my drawings, I just want to express myself. Even the stupidest dumb thoughts, through a comic, can be accessible and relatable to so many more people than I ever thought possible." She also tells us more about how she got into art: "I was raised by the internet, my family was ancient memes like rage comics and 'i can haz cheezburger.' Webcomics were something I was always drawn to (pardon the pun!) and so when I started drawing I just started gravitating to comics myself."
"Bisexual idiot, makes comics, will die if not given enough attention," writes Evie in her Twitter bio. She creates comics quite often and always has something to share on her feed with over 80k followers on her Instagram loving her creations and supporting her endeavors. Evie has a unique sense of humor and with the variety of topics she tackles, everyone is meant to find something they live in the artist's feed.
Evie shares what the most difficult part of creating comics for her is: "The hardest part of illustrating for me is actually the skill of drawing. I'm self-taught, I never had a creative bone in my body and drawing wasn't the most natural thing to me. It took so long and so much practice to get where I am with it but I'm still learning! Especially when I have a really good idea that I want to draw and I'm like... Can I even pull this off?"
In her Patreon, Evie writes "Yeevz is creating comics to make you feel things." From laughter and happiness to deeper thought and self-reflection, you will get it all from the comics of this artist. The artist manages to make you laugh and relate, while also reminding you to practice self-love and care, not forget your loved ones and always remember to appreciate life. She surely manages to "make you feel things."
Ha! What do you want to do with your life, bird?
Load More Replies...I DESPISE spring, because all the birds want to get laid, and they're screaming at FOUR IN THE F*****G MORNING
Maybe we dont wanna know what creatures are saying and thinking. Tooooo funny
The artist tells us more about the topics she covers in her comics: "I would say my comics have two themes—dumb jokes, and mental health. Sometimes the two things overlap. I suffer from mental illness (like so many of us) and my motto is 'you either laugh or you cry,' and when I can, I choose to laugh!" She also shares more about her drawing style: "I would say my style is reminiscent of cartoons from my childhood. I don't put too much detail into my drawings—is it a stylistic choice, or is it because I'm lazy? I'll never tell. I definitely lifted elements from shows like Adventure Time and Over the Garden Wall, and other Cartoon Network shows."
Evie started her comics over three years ago: "Not to toot my own horn, but it makes me so proud to see the improvement from the early days to now. I love what I do, I don't see myself stopping any time soon!" She also shares the main thing that inspires her to create further: "Messages and comments from followers I owe a lot to. It's hard to throw art into the void, especially things that are more personal, such as mental health comics. It's really vulnerable sometimes! But even one comment that says 'I relate to this' makes it all worth it. I think we are all just trying to find comfort in this big scary world, and if I can give that, then I'll do it for as long as I can."
If you want to start creating art yourself, Evie has some advice for you: "My advice to people who want to make art is... do it. Do it! No one is stopping you—just do it. You can suck! It doesn't matter! Art isn't about looking good. Art is about expressing yourself. You don't have to draw well to make good art—you just need a unique perspective. Lucky for you, you have it!"
Evie tells us more about herself: "I'm a Cancer sun with a Scorpio rising and an Aquarius moon. That's all you need to know, right? I never did anything artistic in high school, besides doodling in my workbooks. When I graduated, I had the choice of following a silly little dream of being an artist or doing something with job security and a future. So naturally, I picked the artist route. I'm so glad I did. I studied animation at university and surrounded myself with amazing other artists that made me want to do even better. That's where my comics Instagram began, and the rest is history. Or, still being written."
My dog does the same thing with celery, or peppers, if I have it he HAS to have it. Give him a bit (spits it out) and STILL wants what I have in my hand...ITS THE SAME DAMN THING DOG!!!
Yup...sadistic nurses are out there. Trust me...had one...wasn't even assigned to that unit. Poked my broken ankle..asked me if it hurt...said yes...poked it again. Head nurse came by "Anne. You're not assigned here. What are you doing?"...Anne gave me the most evil smile before she left..
"Reach out! If you have any questions, my DMs are always open and I love to have a chat!"

Ya'll have dreams about f*****g? I honestly thought it was a joke?
These are good, but they've just kind of made me realize how bad my mental state really is right now. I think too many of these are something I can relate to...
Hi there, read some of your comments here and checked your profileand I just wanted to say... keep your chin up, it will get better. Evaluate your life and try to determine if you can pin point problems or is it that you are feeling down / depressed for apparently no reason. If it's the latter, I would suggest you go see a psychologist and get a recommendation from them for meds (if neccessaryof course). The right meds can make a tremendous difference, it sure changed my life for the better. (I have bipolar disorder, severe anxiety and mild depression that comes and goes)
Load More Replies...Many of these make people with PTSD, depression, etc., just want to hide and ignore the world even *more* ------ it's not that easy. If it was, we wouldn't feel lousy!
Wow... That s**t really sucked. Making people feel more depressed because you are depressed too (like basically everyone else except milionnaires and models) is petty and cruel.
I said it once and I'll say it again.... dude what
