Other generations like to dunk on millennials for their love of avocado toast, their inability to purchase a home, and their questionable taste in humor. But Gen Y currently makes up the biggest portion of the population in the U.S. with 72.7 million or 21.7% of the population share.
So, seeing as they're the current majority in America, we've decided to dedicate a post to the Generation Y yuppies. This list of funny posts about what it's like being sort of young but not really comes from Samantha Matt's page, "The Forever Millennials." Check out her poignant observations below!

Never write the list down. This is important. A mental list means you can change it at will. A physical list means that you can see all the things you haven’t done because you got side tracked by squirrels and cat videos and then people are judging you. Or you feel like people are judging you. Or maybe you’re judging yourself. Just go watch more videos. It’s fine
What does is truly mean to be a millennial? Being that I'm technically a millennial since I was born in 1994, I should be able to answer you, Pandas, but I somehow don't feel qualified. Most millennials are '90s kids, but I only spent around three sentient years in the decade.
My childhood and early teens were pure 2000s: listening to pop-punk on an MP3 player, watching Pimp My Ride and other bad reality shows on MTV, the OG YouTubers, and reading the Harry Potter books. I always think of myself as a zillennial: a person in between Gen Y and Gen Z.
Oh boy does this sound familiar. Of course, I haven't been a teenager for over 40 years. I still occasionally think that the early 90's wasn't that long ago but also have to stop and realize "wait, that only happened 4 years ago? I thought it was longer ago".
But let's explore what makes millennials different from the other generations. The Pew Research Center put 1996 as the cut-off year. So, millennials, are people born between 1981 and 1996. That makes the oldest millennials 44 this year, and the youngest will be 29.
At the same time, the researchers at Pew note that the cut-off years aren't an exact science. Yet they think that 1996 is a good year to end the millennial generation because of certain socioeconomic and political factors that the people born until that year have experienced collectively.
I was devastated, okay just gutted, the first time someone asked me if I had grandchildren too. Technically, possible (I was 41), but grandparents are always at least 70 in my mind…
About 6 months ago, my mate called from the karaoke at the White Swan while I was sat in my pyjamas. I got changed, went, started to regret my life choices in the Uber and hated my life even more when I later got in at 3 and couldn't get to sleep. I'm 39 by the way.
I would love this! Scrolling through real estate listings always means 56 thousand emails, sms from agents that I never contacted in the first place
The most notable event that shaped millennials is the 9/11 terrorist attacks, especially for American millennials. Pew claims that most Gen Zers were too young to comprehend the historical significance of it. Millennials, although they were only children too, when it happened, were of age where they could comprehend what this means to the world.
And the super high massive redneck trucks that tailgate you with their high beams on don't help the anxiety level either.
The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan also shaped millennials profoundly. Some experts say that it's what caused the current sharp political polarization. Most millennials could also vote during the 2008 election when the first black president was elected. This win is often attributed to the youth vote and the fact that millennials were the most ethnically and racially diverse generation in American history.
Which will be put off until tomorrow because you're tired from the trip to the container store.
On the economic front, the 2009 recession is the reason why many millennials struggled with home ownership and financial independence even when they were well into adulthood. Although Gen Z has grown up with the Internet, millennials were the ones who created the many social media spaces the youth occupies today. However, the trends and aesthetics of YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram are very different today from what they used to be in the millennial era.
And here we are, rational thinking humans, the highest lifeform, whose intelligence and willpower is easily defeated by fast food and sugar.
Gentlemen, I strongly recommend not to follow this advice. Somehow my boss found it pretty strange I had a Bra on at work.....
So, what is the legacy of millennials, or, what describes them best? In the beginning of 2024, Charlie Gowans-Eglinton wrote for The Times of London that some of it might be embarrassing: living with our parents, not having a driver's license, burnout culture, and a declining fertility rate.
The last interesting thing happened to me back in 1995. Unless people would enjoy 500 or so songs about how incredibly adorable my cats are?
It would basically be a history class about the predatory elite becoming billionaires.
But in a rebuttal for Vogue, Rhiannon Lucy Cosslett defends her fellow millennials, claiming that the media's portrayal of millennials as infantilized wallflowers isn't as accurate. Gen Y's adult lifestyles might be wildly different from the previous generations in terms of late marriage, homeownership, and prioritizing pets over having children.
Don’t underestimate the importance of cheese. The grocery stores have the best music. And get off my lawn
The older generations often call millennials self-absorbed and call them out for thinking they're special. But Cosslett points out that this isn't such a bad trait. Millennials are the generation which turned to therapy and self-work the most. "As a generation, we really do question ourselves and our life decisions. We have so much to weigh up when thinking about our futures, after all, from financial circumstances to our environmental impact," Cosslett writes.
So you don't have drippy hair when you go to comb it. Completely reasonable.
Used to seem that every time I got my chit together, someone flushed the terlet.
Boomers and Gen X might fault millennials for not being as tough as them and liking avocado toast too much. But if liking intricate recipes with hard-to-find ingredients, oversharing, and loving our pets too much is the only crimes millennials are guilty of, I think I'll gladly take it over some of the criticisms other generations had to deal with.
I’m gen x and perfectly happy hiding behind a computer screen. The invention of email and texting was a boon for every introvert everywhere
Meredith was shamelessly gold-digging and manipulative though. Kids were right to get rid of her, esp. since the dad was too nice and oblivious to see it until the end. I do rather dislike it when shows/movies have kids that try to force a breakup just because they don't like change though. This wasn't one of those times, clearly.
There are two ways to deal with SAD: either fight it with a therapy light, daily exercise, avoid the carb foods, start indoor hobbies. Or give into it and accept it as a normal part of being human and just sleep 20 hours of the day. It is more like hibernation than depression.

Load More Replies...So when it says 60 posts about millenials, it just means tweets from one specific person?
yes, and most of them being personal experiences that dont really relate to anyone else. opinions on things that are ignorant and giving a bad image to other millennial who actually did grow up and not reminiscing of the days of the past.

The first paragraph literally says “This list of funny posts about what it's like being sort of young but not really comes from Samantha Matt's page, "The Forever Millennials." Check out her poignant observations below!” It’s not uncommon AT ALL to make listicles from funny posts from only one popular account. Not even uncommon on BP. It’s not all they do, and they specified it at the beginning of the article so you didn’t have to read it if you disagreed with that format. Complain if yall want though I guess.
