Hey, I am Depression Chicken and I am a Polish cartoonist living in Berlin. A few months ago I started drawing comics to better represent how I feel and to deal with my depression and anxiety. I published my works on Instagram and I was very surprised: people not only like my comics, but they can relate to the stories I depict!
I thought for the first time that I am not alone. My new occupation and the great reactions from the community helped me to understand and acknowledge my emotions. Since I started drawing my comics, I feel much better and I hope I can also help my community to make their lives more enjoyable.
I know that I still have a long way to go and that I will have to fight my inner demons. Nevertheless, on my Instagram profile, I collect posts from reliable sources in guides and stories to help me and my community understand the emotions, take care of mental health, and recover from depression and anxiety.

What About You?
Depression Chicken is my alter ego and in my stories, I process things that bother me. On the one hand, it's my depression and anxiety that I express in the first place. Another issue in my art is me being single. I have more or less consciously decided not to date anyone and I want to get my point across that it's totally okay!
Part of my stories are based on the thoughts I have had about depression. The things I have processed in my therapy are also reflected in my profile. Often you can see in my comics the stories that actually took place in my life with my friends. For some time now, I have also been taking inspiration from other social media creators and hopping on Reels and TikTok trends.

Thanks
I follow a lot of other artists on Instagram and like to watch them develop. Social media is full of tutorials, tricks, and how-tos that you can learn a lot from. As a social media manager, I also keep up to date with the latest trends in this area - this also helps me to shape my own social media presence as a creator.
Sometimes I do my comics together with my friends - I draw a situation and they have to fill in the speech bubbles. Some of my funniest comics were made just like that. I did that also with my Instagram community in the beginning and realized that there's actually a lot of creative potential in everyone. Otherwise, I only started a collaboration with another Instagram creator once. If you also make comics and want to do something together - feel free to let me know!
The Social Pressure Season Is Officially Open!
Team Oversharing
Like everyone, I sometimes lose the motivation and energy to keep drawing new comics, but I always remind myself that it's okay to take a break sometimes. But then what always makes me keep drawing is simply the fact that I really like it! But if you need any advice on how to keep going: make a content plan and write down every idea as soon as it comes - I know too well that they can be quickly forgotten over time.
Please Don't
I Can Always Rely On My Inner Demons
I started very small and I drew my comics "traditionally" on paper with watercolors. The more I got into it, the more I started to edit my comics in Photoshop, and finally, I switched completely to digital and now I also create animations. I enjoy that even more now and personally I think I've gotten a lot better since then.
I create my comics on the tablet and then I edit them in Photoshop. I like to use different skills I learned in my work as a social media manager - that's why I always have a content plan for my Instagram profile. This way I bring together my art and my affinity for organization.
Me? Drama?
Tissues Issues
If you want to get started with comics, my first and most important piece of advice is: just do it! Even if, like me, you start without any professional skills, it's okay if you can bring an interesting message or a funny story. When I look at how I started and where I am with my drawings, I also know that it's true that practice makes perfect.
Life vs. Wine
My existence is a hang over. Like when someone has really bad too much tequila hang over and they wonder if they're going to live through this one.
