Reasons Why I Hate Living In Hawaii

I’m finally getting out of Hawaii after living on Oahu six years and I wanted to expose all of Hawaii’s downfalls.

RELATED:

    The Traffic is Crazy

There is only one main highway on the island of Oahu called H3. Everyone drives in the morning to work in Honolulu and drives in the afternoon back home to Ewa. This can make getting home tough especially when there is an accident.

    Everything is Expensive!!!!

If you want anything close to a nice house you’ll have to pay at least a million. Land is impossible to get and the apartments are not good quality. Food is a whole other thing. With most things being imported that drives the prices up.

    You Never Feel Clean

The humid air makes you always feel dirty and sweaty. There’s sand and dirty that’s everywhere and annoying to clean. Even after showering you feel gross and slimy. When you travel to the mainland and shower you feel fresher then you’ve every felt before in your life. You feel light and airy compared. You don’t even understand how lucky you are till you live in Hawaii.

    Bugs are Everywhere 🐜

They are in cracks and your food. Whether it’s a fly, and, or cockroach they are in your house no matter what you do. Sometimes they surface and hundreds of little ants crawl across your countertops. You can clean and clean but they come back. The large flying cockroaches are all in the grass and crawl around in your cars at night.

    Paralyzing Snails

The snails in Hawaii all have one thing in common; they carry rat lung worm disease. If you accidently touch a snail and eat without washing your hands or don’t wash them good enough then you can catch it. It can paralyze you or even kill you. Snails are everywhere so you need to watch out. Also these snails are big!!!

    Centipedes!!!

It is not uncommon to find these creepy crawlers in your home or apartment. If you hate bugs Hawaii is not the place for you. People sometimes flush them down the toilet but don’t do that. They can survive and crawl back up through the pipes. You have to cut off its head to kill it.

    Cat Colonies Everywhere

There are probably hundreds of cat colonies all over just the island of Oahu. Beware of these feral cats. Luckily they don’t have rabies in Hawaii but these cats will destroy outdoor screens, spray on your house, and poop all over. What’s worse is their poop most likely contains worms such as roundworms and hookworms that people can get from cats. So watch where you step!!!!

    Racism

The people in Hawaii are mostly made up of Filipinos and Asians but everyone is mixed with something pacific islander. Many of the local people grew up thinking that the “hales” ,aka the white people, are bad. They can be rough to be around. In schools some of the white kids are bullied. The tourists are treated nicely most of the time but it isn’t uncommon to go to a beach and hear some locals says “f*ck you hales”.

Unfortunate that this was your experience but it had me laughing out loud, because it's uncensored and is keeping it real. Too often the pretty postcard versions of "dreamy" locations are shared: thank you for sharing your perspective:)

I wonder how young this poster is, or how long they lived there - they didn't even spell haole correctly.

Now I would like to know what Hawaii is like from the perspective of a native Hawaiian.
