Japanese Artist Makes Realistic 3D Cat Portraits Out Of Felted Wool, And The Result Is Too Purrfect
Needle felting is a fun and exciting hobby if you have a knack for handcrafts. With some skill and patience, a various range of things can be created by felting – from accessories to clothing; there’s no limit to it. A Japanese artist called Wakuneco chose to make incredible hyper-realistic and stunningly beautiful cat portraits from the basic natural wool used in needle felt.
The artist uses wool of various colors and creates 3D pet portraits using needle felting techniques. On her Instagram, the artist has shared that it’s a very long and delicate work, and it takes her about a month to complete one portrait, but the resulting needle felt animals pays the effort fully. Wakuneco uses pictures of real cats to create portraits as realistic as possible.
Take a look at some of her works below, and maybe you’ll be inspired to take up the hobby of felting animals, too!

Japanese artist Wakuneco started needle felting only in 2015
However, looking at her works it seems that she’s been doing it all her life
She uses pictures of real cats as a reference to make her portraits as real as possible

Share on FacebookAm I the only one who finds these a really cool, yet quite disturbing? Like it's an exact replica of the cat head, but it's just....a disembodied head.
i find them creepy too. it is amazing work, they really look like real...but to they look too real to hang on the wall..
Load More Replies...My cats are already little egotists. I don't think they need help with that! The portraits are lovely, though.
That is really scary like a decapitated head of cat.. Especially before the framing
This is absolutely amazing!!! Looks like a real cat! Where do you sell?
I would really love to have one made for my kitty. She will not be around much longer and having one of these would help keep her spirit alive with us forever
Sad that she's using one animals hair (wool) to make another out of it.
Technically it could be made out of the cat’s fur if you saved enough of it that shed. I’m not sure why using wool is sad, the sheep aren’t killed for their wool.

These are amazing!!! Could you make me one??! I have a ragdoll seal-point, so it's pretty generic.
I LOVE most of these. When I first glanced at the first portrait image, I thought a real cat was sticking his head out of a box!
Urgh! They are so realistic that they seem like real hunting trophies! Imagine a trophy wall covered in neatly framed little cat faces?...

Uurgh, it looks creepy, like a taxidermist gone rogue. Stuff of horror films.
I wonder what those whiskers are made of in two of the pictures? They look so perfect with thinning ends. Are they maybe real?
Merciful Zeus. These are a-freaking-mazing. Wow. How much for one of my Ferret? (for real, not kidding, PM me please amazing artist)
incredible! Would be nice to have one done to remember your special kitties
Hmm, similar to the head trophies kept by hunters. No too creepy for me.
Is it just me, or do they look a bit macabre, like you'd expect those to be on a grave or something? "In remembrance of Fluffy. RIP"
my guess is the class taxidermy type glass eyes that can catch the light.

Now that he's been featured on Bored Panda, he is probably going to get bombarded with requests for kitty portraits.
Keep it small. Moment it looked like rip off cat face, horrendous.
No No No. Sill level and talent are 100%, but it's too much like keeping cat carcasses on the walls.
