The Life Cycles Of Humans Through The Prism Of The Four Elements

The Pulse of Life is the photo series of the life cycles of humans through the prism of the four elements. 18 black-and-white diptych photographs represent the human pulsing through its life cycles on one side, and the four elements that are the core of the whole existence, on the other side. The photographs are made by Stevcho Naumoski.

Inspired by the Woman/Human, her winters and cycles that not only change her pulse of life, but also the folds of a young body getting old; she/the woman/human becomes restless, waving like the lake, smoldering like little embers waiting to become fire, while the wind blows or reinforces them, similar to the life storms of humans. The whole idea for such a comparison of pulsing is stemmed into many philosophies that talk about the classical elements.

Earth is a synonym of strength and stability, ground under the feet, carelessness of a child when that ground is present. But, at the same time, there are all the traces we leave on it – Earth can take it all.

Water, with its different conditions represents a subtle showcase of a human waving and taking different shapes. Hearts, both the human’s and the lake’s, are deep and keep endless memories inside.

Air/Wind, perceived as еаse, is the essence of our existence.

Fire, with its destructive power, causes fear and awe, pain (physical, emotional), inner hotspots, even erotic flames.

As an additional, added element, there’s the Sky, symbolizing events that are not part of one’s everyday being. At the same time it represents a place where humans go once only soul is left of them, for which it is said that it only weighs 21 grams.
