The Way This Guy Made Sure He Got His Lost Camera Back Is Genius
Have you ever lost your camera? If so, you know how awful it can be. Not only have you lost an expensive piece of hardware, but often some of your best and most precious memories too, if you didn’t happen to download them yet.
So what to do to maximize your chances of getting your camera back? Well, you could just take a photo of your business card and leave it in the picture roll, hoping that somebody will find it and respond. Or, you can do as Australian author Andrew Mcdonald suggests, and make a much more memorable and persuasive plea for magnanimity.

“Have you lost your camera recently? Mislaid it somewhere in a national park? Left it in a taxi? Dropped it in the gorilla pit? Anyone can be a victim of the thoughtlessness and/or sleepiness that can lead to Camera Loss,” he writes. “‘How can I prevent Camera Loss?’ I hear you ask, wishing I’d get to the point. Well, you can’t prevent cameras from getting lost, but you can do something so your camera can be found very soon after it has vanished.”

“All you have to do is take some photos – which you never delete from your camera – so when someone finds your camera at the bottom of the gorilla pit they are able to locate you and return the lost property to its rightful owner. To illustrate just how you can safeguard your camera from the crippling effects of Camera Loss, here are the pics that I always keep on my camera.”

Who could resist such a creative way of requesting help? I would be straight down the post office to get that camera back to its rightful owner.

Andrew is an Australian blogger and author of the hilarious children’s series ‘Real Pigeons,‘ which is already out in some countries (and about to be out in others – it’s being published in the US in January 2020).

“The books are about a squad of crime-fighting pigeons, so as I’m sure you can tell, I’m still telling silly, irreverent stories. Just not on my blog anymore,” Andrew told Bored Panda.

“I never actually lost my camera. The whole thing was always just a lark, just me having fun in my backyard,” he explained about his post, which is still just as popular today as it was when he first created it 10 years ago.
“I’ve had a few people ask me if I ever got my camera back. But I’ve had A LOT of people message to say that the post put a big smile on their face and made their day. Hearing that feedback is just the best. I always think that if you’re making another human smile, then you’re doing something right.”

Although Andrew hasn’t heard of any examples of his technique actually working, he would love to hear from people who gave it a try!

Share on FacebookI don't know how much success a person would have with this but I think it would definitely up his odds of getting it back. I think it's a clever idea.
An experienced thief would delete all the photos without looking at them.
I don't think he was addressing thieves. More like a name tag on the camera. In case he lost it.
Load More Replies...First: I think this is super cute and funny. Second... here's the dilemma, as a good and proud Canadian (and hopefully ethical individual), I would DEARLY want to return said camera immediately!... but I'd also feel like a creepy weirdo scrolling through someone else's pictures. Then I would out of desperation... then I'd probably write a hugely long apology letter for being so creepy as to look through their pictures... ehhh... I suppose in the end it would get the camera back to them... so... not... as bad? Maybe?
Playing the Canada card a bit strong there, ehhhh
Load More Replies...Well I did do this with the startup screen of my previous digital camera --- one screen, with "if lost: (phone) (email)" and a gecko (just 'coz). More chance it's seen than this whole series, & sufficient.
First thing any thief does is delete the memory/get rid of the memory card. But it's pretty funny :-)
but the basic idea of having a camera connected to your icloud sounds good. He could have uploaded the photo later, and the camera would have been activation locked anyway. Sorry, apple.
Load More Replies...One could also stick a little QR-code on the camera with the text “if found scan this for info”. Not so funny, but easier.

With his great attitude you would be completed to return the camera to its rightful owner ! Genius idea
With his amazing attitude you would just feel most compelled to return his camera ! Genius idea !
I need a follow up to this, please!! Did he find his camera? Did he find love instead? The suspense is killing me!!!
Husand left camera on a bench in a state park. Stranger found it, looked at pictures and saw wedding photos. The case had name and address. Stranger mailed it to us, saying because of wedding pictures, knew the pictures were priceless. Long-distance friendship results.
A 16 year old friend was behind car with purse on top. Never thought about licence plate. Was honking horn trying to flag her. She took off like mad and purse fell off the car. He stopped to pick up. Then travel on trying to find her. Could not so looked in purse and found address in town 40 miles away. He took it there and gave to husband. He had fit. She was on way to pay their house off and had $73,000. He made him stand there while he counted it. Never said thanks just went in house. Another 40 miles home. His Father asked where you been. He told him the story. Made Father mad and called radio station. Next day the guy called and asked where they lived. Came handed the kid $20.00 and walked away. Still no thanks. They had sold off old house to pay off other. But still no thanks. Radio station told the kid that! He had seen lot of money but never touched it. Lo of gas for 16 year old the $20.00 paid gas!
I was with my wife in london- we found on the bench during lunch time phone . So we brought it to the nearest reception assuming, that it lost some employee from there. Anyway - it could be good idea to left some "fake" disturbing pictures with address- camera will return from thief or police - you can be sure ;-)
If there was a way to put these in permanent memory in case the card is pulled or ruined.
The only negative I see in this is if he didn't use enough memory ... depending on the resolution and memory size, those would be the only pictures found, I imagine *insert facetious emoji* ...
So this guy takes a bunch of pictures with his camera, asking the person who found it to return it BEFORE it even gets lost?? And then he takes, let's say another 1000 pictures, what will he do? Cross his fingers that the one who found/stole it will go through all the pictures until he finds those? A bit too extreme for my tasting. I love his sense of humor though :)
Well... But these will always remain to be the first pictures on the roll, so whoever find is will see these pictures first, so it doesn't really matter if there are 100 pictures on the camera or a 1000.
Load More Replies...It's funny, clever and hopefully whoever (let's say) found the camera will give it back and be ashamed!
I would date him. Unless he is already married to his camera. They have indeed spent time together by his bath... s
I'd get a tetanus shot before getting in that bath tub.
Load More Replies...Pointless, it's like he's expecting to lose it. How do you know somebody will even look at the pictures??
