Pregnant Bride Storms Out Of Cousin’s Shop After Demanding A Free New Dress
Family relationships can be tricky, especially when money gets involved.
Recently, a woman turned to Reddit to air out her frustration over a fight she’s had with her cousin, who is getting married soon. As the owner of a bridal shop, she designed and tailored a wedding dress as a gift. However, things took an unexpected turn after the bride revealed she was pregnant.
It became obvious that the gown won’t fit, and the relatives couldn’t find an agreement on how to proceed.
This woman was both excited and confused by her cousin’s pregnancy announcement

Two months is a very tight deadline within the industry
According to The Knot 2024 Attire & Fashion Study, on average, brides begin the quest for their wedding dress 10 months before their big day.
At that time, they aren’t necessarily visiting salons yet, but are doing research online and figuring out what they like. On average, survey respondents start going to physical shops about 8.5 months before their event and make the purchase roughly 7.5 months in advance.
While 55% of respondents bought dresses off the rack, it’s especially important to start the process early if you’re interested in customizing your gown in any way.
So, the two-month timeframe the cousin wanted to leave our Redditor with is incredibly tight by the industry’s standards.

Most of those who read the story felt sorry for its author
But a few supported her cousin instead
The YTA folks have no idea what goes into a handmade garment, let alone a bespoke, beaded wedding gown. And the "unless you have a weight gain clause in your contract..." and why would they have a contract when making a gift for someone?
Came to say the same, and adding on: No they don't need to make it fit the person in the end, they only need to make it fit the specifications given.

Clearly this is not the only or worst stress this baby will endure in its life with a mother like this.
There are a lot of reasons to keep schtum about a pregnancy. Maybe she's miscarried before or is at high risk, maybe she didn't trust OP to keep the secret. Maybe she hadn't decided to keep the baby until then. But she shouldn't be upset that she can't get a second dress for free, and she should have brought up a more flexible design if there was a possibility of pregnancy.
It is selfish to have had her wasting her time tailoring and making a dress she was not going to fit in. That alone is infuriating
I worked at a bridal store and op could have made it work. Yes, the intricate beading would need to be split and there would be new seams but it can be done.
I was wondering this, it can't be an uncommon problem. My cousin asked if she could borrow my wedding dress, then found she was pregnant as the planning was well under way. Mine had a laced up back, so there was some give but not enough. A seamstress put in some extra panels. My mum was weirdly negative, like my cousin had ruined my dress, but to be honest I already felt like I had given it to her to do with as she liked. She looked beautiful on her day.
Load More Replies...My fiancee got pregnant unexpectedly while we were planning the wedding and after she had purchased and fitted the dress. We moved up the date of the wedding and changed the venue from a chapel to the beach in front of my grandparents' condo. She could still fit in the dress at that point, and getting married on the beach barefoot was neat. This situation sounds a lot uglier. I doubt that bridezilla will ever entirely forgive OP, and whatever closeness they had before is gone now. And maybe OP is better off.
Bride is entitled b***h. Dont help her in any way. She made the decision to not tell you so now its her problem.
Of course, back in the old days, a couple were married before the bride was pregnant, not after.
Oh, it happened in the old days, but they'd have tried to marry on the quiet.
Load More Replies...Return the money that she paid for materials (if she refuses to take the dress and find somebody else to alter it), and sell the dress in you shop.
Nah, get a roll of elastic and a "bedazzler" and give it hell! 🤣🤣
Load More Replies...Bride should pay for the second dress and try to cut the loss by selling the first dress, which was already paid for and had a generous discount (so the list on that at second-hand price would not even be that much).
Only to say the YTA posters seem to also believe they are entitled to get something custom remade for free. Reminder here, family or not - no one is obligated to provide their services for free! (Especially when said skill, would take time away from her livelihood making a, dress that could be going to a paying customer.) NTA.
