This poor hedgehog was found on a roadway after being hit by a car and rushed to a vet hospital – only to find out she was carrying 5 hoglets in her belly. The staff at Israeli Wildlife Hospital in Ramat Gan, near Tel Aviv, were checking the animal for injuries when an X-Ray revealed the hedgehog was pregnant.

The staff at the hospital restored the hedgehog mamma back to health by giving her plenty of food and warmth. They also helped her recover from the wound on her head. And, when the right time came, she gave birth to 5 healthy baby hedgehogs.

Now, the hedgehog mom who refused to give up after being hit by a car, as she knew she had something else to live for, is giving all her love to the newborns. “Despite her injury, the spiky mother is recovering and faithfully breastfeeding her young,” rescuers wrote online. “Soon she’ll make a full recovery and will return to nature with her babies.”
