Hollywood absolutely loves to lay waste to UNESCO World Heritage Sites, famous landmarks and modern marvels of engineering. If there’s one thing as cool as seeing these places in the real world, it’s seeing them get blown to bits on the silver screen!
A lot of money and effort goes into blowing up these landmarks for cinematic effect, too. The Statue of Liberty would cost around 1.2 million dollars to build today. Cloverfield, which gave us that striking visual of a decapitated Libertas had a budget of 25 million dollars! So these CGI projects are arguably as big as the construction project of the landmarks they are destroying.
As we learnt earlier this year with the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral, seeing actual world famous landmarks burn is much less fun. But you couldn’t peel your eyes away, could you?
We had a little fun with the idea of landmark destruction and made these awesome postcards that depict these scenes in a retro travel poster kind of style, with those responsible for the destruction incorporated into the design too.
