Actually, doing the right ones isn't nearly as important as *not* doing the wrong ones. I've often told my kid while growing up, that most of success in life doesn't come from making super smart decisions all the time. It mostly comes from not making one or two really dumb ones. Excellent. Talent only gets you so far. I admit it bothers me when people see great art and respond with "that artist is so talented!" Maybe yes, but they are definitely SKILLED and put in the WORK to get where they are.

The source and intention of the compliment is what matters most. I remember in middle school... Our music teacher would compliment coming up with good notes. Our Islamic ethics teacher would compliment hatred of music and recitation of anything other than the Quran... One was a good happy-go-lucky man. I have never seen him frown. One was a twisted bitter woman. She shouts at kids when they don't comply. By kids I mostly mean me XD
