Javelinas Have No Mercy On A Golf Course In Arizona And Folks Online Are Cheering Them On
The internet is truly an unpredictable place. You never know what kind of reactions even the simplest situation might get.
A situation of this kind happened quite recently. Let’s say that we definitely did not have people online supporting pigs instead of golfers on our 2023 bingo card.
More info: X (Twitter)
In Arizona, javelinas messed up golf courses and one X user asked for advice on how to deal with it

But people online turned the situation around and started supporting javelinas instead of golf enthusiasts
Recently, X (formerly known as Twitter) user @emcaseyturf posted a video in which you can see ruined golf courses. She wrote that these golf courses were ruined by javelina.
A javelina is a medium-sized animal which looks similar to a wild boar. Sometimes it is also called collared peccary. They have pepper-colored hair, short legs, and a pig-like nose. Their teeth are long, sharp canines.
These animals are classified as herbivores. That means that they eat native plant foods, although, if there’s an opportunity, they might eat lizards, dead birds, and rodents.

Come along with me on my carnage (I mean course) check this morning. What should be one of the most beautiful golf courses in the country is being destroyed by herds of javelina. If anyone has a contact in AZ state govt that can help us find a solution please pass it along. pic.twitter.com/XftywHtVCf

Coming back to the video, the person who posted it asked for help – how to get rid of javelinas, which keep destroying golf courses. But people on the internet turned the situation around.
Apparently people on the internet, especially TikTok, hate golf and people who play it. You might ask why. Well, netizens have called golf a sport for “stodgy old rich men.”
Some people even identify as “anti-golfers”. These people say that it signifies everything that is wrong with the world – unfettered capitalism, racism, and the climate crisis. And so, they call for golf to cease to exist.
There’s also the trending hashtag #cancelgolf, which currently has over 7M views on TikTok. It has been popularized by the platform’s user Abbie Richards. Using this hashtag, she posts videos about why golf should be canceled from our society. She speaks about how the game has racism, sexism, and such built into it. She also points out that all the space that is used for courses could be used for anything else.
Essentially, the woman described golf as an environmental, political, social, and public health issue.

Since all these activists heavily argue that golf is bad for the environment, you might ask how. Well, there are several ways it hurts the environment. First, landowners waste extensive amounts of water by not using recycled water for cleaning the courses.
The second point was brought up by the mentioned TikTok creator – creating golf courses adds to deforestation. Also, these courses hurt wildlife – they reduce spaces where animals can forage. This was brought up by people online commenting on the situation with javelinas; they said that where the golf courses are should be a natural habitat for javelinas, and that’s why they went wild there.
Not only all of that, but also, various chemicals are released into the environment due to golf courses. And these chemicals not only hurt the environment, they are also possible carcinogens for humans.
So, it comes as no surprise that people were happy that these pig-like creatures, javelinas, ruined golf courses in Arizona. A lot of them stated that people should stop wasting precious resources for this game. They expressed hope that the animals will keep going on with this quest.
People online decided – the solution is to give up golf courses for rewilding

Porcine creatures have been ruining golf courses for years. They even own some of them.
I remember this summer, there was a drought in the southern part of my country. Water for gardens was rationed, everything dry. The gold court had sprinklers running all evening and morning long. F**k golf, so much space wasted for old farts playing with sticks and balls instead of letting children, dogs, students and whoever else hang around the fields.
I guess it’s because a lot of the people who run the country play golf (senators, presidents, CEOs of big companies, political party donors, etc) that rules like water usage in drought conditions don’t apply.

My daughter has a stuffed javelina toy. Very adorable.
Load More Replies...Okay, let's look at this objectively. Golf: boring sport for rich people. Javelinas: Very, very cute and they were there first. I'm with the Javelinas ont hat one.
My argument exactly. Javelinas cute, Golfers not cute.

I think this golf course owner will be living with javelina for a while. :oD

But, in case of golf, these are commercial, so glad to see nature getting back what should be just nature, not deforestated and modified pieces of land, that drive away all animals.
we have golf courses in africa. Which mostly is in a state of drought. It's a grotesque waste of land and water.
This isn't an issue of javalinas on a golf course, it is a problem of people insisting on playing golf where the javalinas forrest/lives. The pigs were there first, and it is their land you are using for your sport. Accept it, and pay for the repairs/mantainance, or go somewhere else. There is also a golfclub placed in a deerpark near where I live, and when you do that, a basic condition is that you'd have to accept deertracks in the green, or the occotional flock of deers on the field. You are a guest in their home, it is not the other way round. So if you don't like it, move buddy.
If anyone knows of a gofundme for the Javelinas to purchase golf memberships, please post it here.
Javelina wearing golf caps and plaid shorts would be adorable.

I've played golf and enjoy it, but I suck so maybe not the best to make this comparison. That being said I don't notice much difference between the virtual driving range and the real one. I think we're close to the point we can stimulate it almost exactly without needing to waste the space
I'm in a more rural part of AZ and I love Javelina. I'm not sure why images of pigs were used in these posts, considering. These guys are mean, hilarious, adorable, dangerous, super smart, and important to the desert ecosystem. To me their personalities are like .... something close to a self aware raccoon with the intensity of a kangaroo and the rage of a mother bear.
Golf courses don't have to be all clipped lawns, except for the greens. In AZ, the natural desert ground, with a bit of artistic landscaping, would be satisfying courses.
Golf courses in the UAE used to be sand. It seemed to work

I'll adhere to the question: where does the water come from? I never thought it rained so much in Arizona.
I am from AZ. Why is there not a single picture of an actual javelina. They are unrelated to pigs, Cannot interbreed and are not even native to Arizona. They have been migrating north over the last two centuries. Once again you are misrepresenting the case.
History shows again and again how nature points out the folly of man :3
Go back to playing golf like how it was invented. Shepards canes, sheep s**t and gopher holes.
I remember horseriding along a trail that bordered a golf course. The impulse to turn onto it and let her rip for a good long gallop was so strong!
Honestly this stuff just makes me sad. In my opinion, golf courses are giant wastes of money, resources, and water especially since they are used primarily by wealthy, older men. If we are going to use that much water on anything at all, it should be on something everyone uses and is beneficial towards us like gardens instead of using water in drought ridden states to make sure a empty field remains green for some guy to hit balls around in it, especially if is taking habitat away from wildlife. (Sorry if anyone found this offensive, this is just an opinion, if you enjoy golf courses then don’t read this)
Some of my family lives in Arizona. I have always thought it ridiculous, that certain (rich) towns had green lawns and golf courses in the desert. There are so many golf courses in these towns, that it's the only place I've ever seen luxury golf cart dealerships. Meanwhile, the rest of the state has very heavy water use restrictions, you know, because of the giant DROUGHT, that's drying up all the lakes and reservoirs. The Javelinas are revolutionaries! Eat the rich, Piggies! Lol.
Unfortunately, pigs of all species destroy wetlands too. We are restoring a wetland and pigs are an issue. I couldn't care less about golf courses.
Javelinas arent pigs actually. Idk why they used pictures of pigs when Javelinas are different
Load More Replies...So it's Arizona, so we're going with the Mexican Spanish name for peccaries? It's not unusual for animals to be known by different names in different dialects (Caribou vs Reindeer, for instace).
How about you wind your neck in defending rich white dudes who would burn people alive if they were allowed to for "fun".
