Hi! I am Griselda Duch, a photographer from Barcelona. I want to share my long-term project called "Botanicals".

Drawing inspiration from the imagery associated with the early 20th century photographers Karl Blossfeldt, Imogen Cunningham, and Robert Mapplethorpe, among others, my latest project "Botanicals" quests to canonize the beauty of the natural environment through a collection of monochromes of flora and plants.

In light of this work to reveal overlooked beauty through botany, which contains within itself an infinity of potential forms, the monochromatic series comes up with a clear composition where self-expression reigns.

Hope you'll like it!

Through a simple technique making use of developing zenith, frontal and occasionally diagonal perspectives, the photographs are displayed with a grey neutral background, just to not deduct from the prominence of the plant.

Interrelated into the same aesthetic reflection and lauding the universal motif of the plant, my sole purpose is to interpret nature through art in order to turn it into emotion.

we used to call these "wishes" if you could take the white part out, which is where the seeds are, without tearing it you got to make a wish

My passion for photography started a long time ago. I remember that when I was a little child, my dad showed me the interior of an analog camera; and that first impact with photography remained in my retina until today.

I graduated in Tourism years ago, and after working in the tourism area I was unwittingly immersed in the arts and culture sector. It was then, without even realizing it, that I discovered that photography is my real thing, my passion.

Needless to say, I'm a huge fan of Karl Blossfeldt. The "Botanicals" project is a tribute to the imagery associated with the early 19th and 20th centuries' photographers such as Karl Blossfeldt, Imogen Cunningham, and Robert Mapplethorpe, among others.

I started experimenting with flowers and plants that I found on the street or that I bought from florists until I grouped a pretty amount of beautiful plants. Botany has always interested me, to be honest.

Monochromatic photography has something really special to me. It can transmit a different yet certain mood to everyone or, anyhow, to specific viewers. It definitely creates a strange dreamscape that color never can reach. Difficult to explain.

At the moment, I am working on my upcoming project Stillness which reflects the beauty of the flora through window glasses. I think that a flower behind a window, portal, or even glass always projects a very ephemeral but extensive feeling.

You can see part of it on my website or Instagram.
