GoFundMe is pretty much like tipping the waiter. The restaurants expect the patrons to pay the staff's wage so why bother paying them fairly? Insurance companies be like why help these people with healthcare when there's GoFundMe?

As long as lawmakers get top shelf health insurance with the job and lobbying remains legal, it will never change. The rest of us will still be taking an Uber to the hospital and hope we get there before dying.

GoFundMe is a 21st century copy of the 16th century French small town. No one could afford to pay a doctor if Francois got the plague so everyone in town came together to provide a cow, some ducks, some coin from selling lace, etc to ensure a doctor would stay in town and provide care. Then towns started assigning someone to keep track (The duck out front of the Arc place is part of the insurance) and pow - you got GoFundMe.

Unfortunately, in Serbia that is in most of the really ill people the only solution. Not exactly GoFundMe, but there are couple of charity organizations that are doing some good work.

Totally. I am now halfway through my second health degree and my father still tells me what medical advice he got from the TV, and when I say, "No that is not correct info" he gets irritated, "I watched the thing on TV!!" Yes coz 6-8 years education on the subject has taught me absolutely nothing....What can you do...still love him...

It's also because in the US you have to pay thousands of dollars in medical bills for prenatal care and labour and delivery, even if nothing goes wrong. You also get 2 weeks maternity leave, if you're lucky. A lot of people literally cannot afford to *have* a baby, let alone raise a child.

So my lack of motivation is saving my life, got it.
