Unless you are a committed contrarian, most of us prefer to generally agree with the majority opinion. After all, it's not really worth waging war over a commonly held belief, particularly if that debate is happening online. But sometimes folks do need to vent a little.
This online group is dedicated to sharing opinions that generally go against the grain and we have gathered some of the best posts. Outside of this list, you have most likely encountered the idea of a “hot take.” This is simply an opinion, view, or idea (the “take”) that is quite controversial (the “hot” part.) What you might not have known is that this term comes from sports radio, of all places. Originally, the idea was to promote some listener engagement through good, old-fashioned rage baiting,
The strategy would be for the radio hosts to choose "a topic from the sports zeitgeist, often one that has no business being discussed because the answer is unknowable" and then make"loud, fact-free declarations," so fans, who might not have the best self-control, would call in and do their best to “correct” them.
The person is not wrong - studies have shown that bathing/showering too often actually just moves the bacteria on your skin around.
Hmm, I worked in a female dominated office for years and this was not my experience at all. I wonder what the difference was. I am a women, but I never heard anyone talk so candidly.
It's a workplace culture thing. If they hired someone who did talk that way and it was not punished the culture of your workplace would change over time. If the behavior is not tolerated it never takes root.
Load More Replies...Under no circumstances should that kind of behavior be tolerated by/from anyone, ever, at any time at all.
Women are, quite rightly, encouraged to report behaviour that they're uncomfortable with. Men are expected to accept it and treat it as "banter".
No we're not expected to just "accept it". It's literally sexual harassment, which everyone is expected to report regardless of gender. .
Load More Replies...For nearly all of recorded history, it has been the opposite and men didn't complain. No, I'm not saying you deserve it. I'm saying that everyone should treat people with dignity and respect, and speak up when someone doesn't...even if it doesn't affect you personally.
Funny how he said "even more so". No its probably equally the same. Men and women EQUALLY sexualize each other.
Not as open in the work place. I work in a female dominated office and I hear some of the dirtiest stuff come out of their mouths and as long as everyone laughs it's ok. As a male I know for a fact if I made a joke half as bad as them I would be fired asap.
Load More Replies...I have an issue with this too as a girl, I speak up when it happens and point it out though. I think it’s important us girls stand up more about it, I love we have rights and the feminist movement of the early days, but the later movements to an extent it’s taking the p**s on equality
The whole world is like this. This is just the manifestation of it in the workplace. Probably a contributing factor to the fact the leading cause of death of adult men in their prime is suicide.
I am a women and I agree some women are just as bad as men if not worse sad thing is they can get away with it usually. Which is kinda sad because Boone like to be sexual harassed and feel like you don't matter because of your gender.
I don't wanna get no hate for this. But someone talking about how a person would be in bed. How good they look and what they imagine them look like under there cloths and extra that is what this is. And people making a joke about someone incompetence or sexual life. And touch anyone part of the body or talking about touch people body parts. And talking about what you like to do to some person while making a cat sound yeah this is what that is.
Load More Replies...This is so wrong no matter what the sexual identity and/or preferences involved. It's just completely inappropriate and unless it's a case of completely warranted discomfort of one party due to the actions of another, punishment when required should be equally dispensed. I'm a woman and have had some serious issues come up in the healthcare setting that I couldn't get addressed because the two people involved were both in management type positions. It was a horror story involving physical abuse and nothing!! I was told later that the two were sleeping together and was why I couldn't get any help when I was thrown and beaten to a pulp because I asked for a nurse that wouldn't ignore me.
Any group of people, whatever their common factors, contains some idiots. If you assume that some group, just by having a certain set of characteristics, is always right, then Goodhart's Law will slap you on the face.
I don't think this is the norm, by any means...but I do think, as a general rule, some companies are better at dealing with, and accurately defining, sexual harassment, and asserting that it applies ro all people. This company needs to be publicly shamed, and the work culture there absolutely needs to change.
Unfortunately, this is too often true. If women (I am a woman) want to be treated equally they should be held to the SAME standards as the men in the workplace.
I once told off a female coworker because she was breaking the law and creating a workplace hazard. I'm the one who got in trouble because I used a swear word and she claimed it was intimidating. She never faced any repercussions for endangering peoples lives and breaking the law. I was fired.
Sexual Harassment is sexual harassment. The genders of the perp and victim should not matter.
I've yet to encounter this at any job I have ever had. - Not saying it doesn't happen in a female dominated job, but stating it happens more to men than to women.... wow. A bit out of touch. - I realize in this day and age of canceling someone that isn't outraged over someone else's outrage is in line to be trolled. But as someone who has been harassed, groped, assaulted, and publicly shamed by men in the workplace.. I disagree. Vehemently. - Harassment from either is unacceptable, but claiming a gender that has historically been victim to the other, is more guilty of it .. I disagree. If it's such a problem he needs to do something about it. As far as women who harass men to climb the ladder, I can't say I agree 100% on that perspective either as I've been overlooked and passed up time and time again simply because I didn't have a dangle on my undercarrage. I doubt harassing/bedding a man would have gotten me promoted. It would have never crossed my mind either.
I totally agree. Sexual harassment is sexual harassment regardless of the gender of the person doing the harassing
This should be high. This is 100% true, there is definitely a double standard.
Depends on where one works. The minority sex is often targeted. *Old boy* culture is still very strong worldwide. Perhaps poster could write an editorial about this from a male perspective? Maybe it'll help. Sisters, cut this out! We worked too hard and too long for rogue elements to become the new sexual predators.
As a guy, I've been asked out while being new to a job. I always politely said no and kept things professional. I can't imagine the possible consequences if the gender roles were reversed.
I worked in pubs, bars etc, as a manager often with 80% female staff. This is so true. I would never be alone in the office and always made sure someone was with me. Women when working in groups can be very competitive and nasty to each other.
100% People act like there is a giant gap between female creeps and male creeps and their just isn't Women are just as big of creeps just as often.
This is horrible and so unprofessional. I've heard that female nurses are particularly horrible to male nurses. I just don't understand why?
I’ve been a nurse in the hospital for 37 years and have not found that to be true nor have I ever heard such a thing.
Load More Replies...As a guy working in Healthcare I can definitely confirm. Applies to staff and residents alike. Some of the rumpus ive heard older female staff saying about me would probly get a male staff member fired if the roles were reversed.
This is true, I've started calling people out for it, they don't get pissy, they think and then stop
I work in Healthcare too. I've seen male staff be s**ually harassed by females, and I've heard women speak in lewd ways about men. And I'm a woman.
For real, not just workplace but in general. I've heard way too many girls at my school look at a guys butt and point out their "gyat".
back in 94, my last 5 months i was serving on the uss mt. hood in the u.s. navy. at the time, it was the largest ship in the navy commanded by a woman and a good third of the crew were women. have no problem, btw. i will never forget one day on the mess decks when i heard a female crew member say to another female crew member, "i would f--k jean claude van damme in a minute!",
It's not a double standard, it's just that women are exploiting the fact that people are afraid to speak up to their poor behavior because they've spent the last decade convincing everybody that they are inherent victims and aren't capable of being pieces of garbage without men or "society" manipulating them into it. They are literally doing what they have have been accusing men, abusing while in positions of power.
Should either be making any inappropriate comments? Obviously not. But let's not pretend there aren't historical, physical, societal, cultural, power, etc, reasons why men are viewed differently then women in these scenarios. And, no, I'm not saying women don't have similar issues but that there is a reason most of the focus has been on men and any straight up comparison between the two is nor where fair nor realistic. Again, NO ONE should be harassing anyone but saying this is equally a men and women issue is denial, at best. Also, it's "funny" how these types of entries tend to bring out the redpill or redpill-adjacent BP people.
If anyone says they're uncomfortable with another person, BELIEVE THEM.
No. Because people (men AND women) make it their mission to ruin someone else's life. False accusations ruin lives. Investigate first.
Load More Replies...I would LOVE to have a woman try to accuse me of "harassment"....I would look her straight in the eye and say, "The only thing that interests me about you are those 3-inch pumps you're wearing!"....I would love to help her pick her jaw off the floor.
Now this term has easily extended to the social media age, although the strategy is quite similar. People will be incorrect or inflammatory on purpose, relying on others quickly jumping into the comments section to “correct” them or share the post to mock it. Unfortunately, in the social media age, most attention is good attention, as the algorithm just sees clicks, comments, and reposts, not the negativity.
Lol, till 2018?! You sweet innocent child, the internet has *always* had a dark side. Source: I've been online since Jesus was a pup.
I’m mostly having a problem with the adults having their children try to get the ball.
Where does this person live? Here in Mzansi (South Africa) it's sunny 95% of the time. I get depressed when it's winter and too dark. We need the sun for our mental health.
Also... kids get sick. So do adults. How are adults in a corporate culture going to stand up for their rights and take time off when sick (sorry, idk if getting PAID sick days is a usual thing in the US, but you should still not have to work when you're spreading lurgy) if you don't learn to do it as a kid?
Met my wife at work 12 years ago. It happens to millions of people, it's just the way it goes. They'll do what they can to prevent it, but as long as work is integrated between the sexes it will surely happen forever and that's just fine with me.
I have a good friend who's been participating in kickboxing since he was like 13 and hits the gym on a regular basis. Most buff guy I know, but still far away from Arnold Schwarzenegger or anyone like that. Peak physical condition doesn't look the way the movies make it seem.
I feel the same about the “Alabama is where everybody f***s their sisters hurr hurr hurrrrrrr” joke. Its not funny nor is it anywhere near true.
I tend to get my impressions on numerous observations. How do they treat animals, retail workers, restaurant servers, do they gossip etc. Not their clothing or wealth.
Sellers really don't have a choice. It's virtually impossible to sell your house on your own unless you're a house flipper who has their own license.
If you are afraid of nudity, just avoid the locker room, throw on a jacket and sweatpants and shower and change elsewhere
Everyone could benefit from therapy is different from everyone needs therapy. It's like a personal trainer in a gym - everyone would benefit, some need it more than others.
My unpopular opinion: All religious institutions in the US should be enforced to pay taxes.
This will probably earn me a lot of hate, but here goes: I find it ludicrous that British period dramas now have to be so historically incorrect. For example Father Brown set in 1953 in the Cotswolds. The idea that a catholic priest at that time was exceedingly tolerant towards other faiths, gays, single mothers, abortions etc. is just toecurlingly weird. Nor were there any peole of colour in rural England at the time.
They're prioritising being *politically* correct - the nadir was doing Anne Boleyn as a person of colour. Utterly ludicrous.
Load More Replies...My unpopular opinion: I don't care for sport. I know people love it. In my country people are absolutely mad for it. I think only USA and UK are more mad for it. What bothers me about it is that (a) it seems boring to me... like, you are chasing a ball... then you get it... then you place it or kick it to that side of the field or throw it at that guy's set of sticks in the ground, etc... ok. I get it. (b) Identifying as a whatever-supporter and then getting angry/excited about that team while watching them and yelling at the TV set? I mean, they can't hear you so you aren't supporting them, you are scaring your cat. That's all. (c) Selling and buying players?!? I mean, if your team is mostly from Africa then it is an african team, not a french team. I don't care if they have french passports; you stole them via colonialism. Same goes for a british guy sold to a spanish team or vice versa (d). You support a UK team but live in Africa?!? Er... traitor?
I'm disappointed my posts didn't get more likes on this page. That's my unpopular opinion as well.
Nothing like moaning a guy is ripped when there's literally female nudity and stupid airbrushed standards all over the tv WAY more than men.
nah gender appearance idealisation pressure exists for men as well... I think it's ok to draw attention to the problem.
Load More Replies...My unpopular opinion: lip filler almost always looks good, the ones who look bad are the only ones you realize are filler. Everyone else is flying under the radar.
I think we should stop saying someone is pregnant with someone else’s baby, unless the pregnant person is a surrogate (especially if the egg donor is someone else!). For example, I was reading something the other day about when Britney Spears was pregnant with Justin Timberlake’s baby. Well the baby has both their DNA and I think we need to recognize this language comes from a time when men had (most to all) legal control over their offspring and that the father’s lineage was more important socially and legally. I think we just need to update how we talk about it - I definitely don’t think *most* people see the father as most important anymore. It work work to say “person A was pregnant with person B”.
What? Some people like to share/know who the father is. Not everything is sexism.
Load More Replies...mine: cat(dog) mom or dad. WTH? Animals have their biological parents. I do love animals and sure they're part of the family and that the animal-human bond is very special, but quoting someone as cat mom or dad is just strange to me.
