Chances are, you’ve got some unpopular opinions that you usually keep to yourself. Perhaps you love pineapple on pizza, or maybe you find chocolate to be repulsive. When I was in college, I was terrified to tell my friends that I had absolutely no interest in ever watching films or reading books about Harry Potter… And I was always thrilled when we’d get blessed with a gray and dreary day.

We’re not always willing to share these hot takes out loud, but it’s a bit easier to open up to strangers on the internet. Mumsnet users have recently been admitting their most controversial takes, so we’ve gathered the juiciest ones below. Enjoy scrolling through this list that you might find incredibly frustrating, and be sure to upvote the secret opinions that you actually agree with!

30 Hot Takes People Wouldn’t Dare To Admit In Person Sports. Particularly the big money making machine types. I don't understand why it's not more of a niche interest.

There was a meme or similar a good few years ago and it was basically, imagine if sports coverage was dedicated to archaeology, hourly news bulletins, sections of newspapers, endless coverage on TV, huge stars. Breaking news, star archaeologist Dr Richard Brown has signed a new contract to begin working in Corfu. And then everyone phoning in a radio show to discuss why he should dig somewhere else, people really upset because they were hoping he would dig at a place they preferred, live coverage of the ground being broken at the excavation site, with commentary and discussion from retired archaeologists.

I'm definitely not a vegan, but since OP is clearly not one either, I guess I'm ok to weigh in on this. I think veganism requires a great amount of skill. To understand each fruit, vegetable, fungi, etc, well enough to create not only a nutritionally balanced meal but also a tasty one, requires knowledge that a lot of people who decide go vegan don't have. There are a lot of well trained chefs out there that are helping them on their way and with the world's knowledge at their fingertips, they only need to look for it.

I carefully researched nutrition and had blood tests so that I can correct any low hemoglobin levels and other deficiencies before going vegan. A couple of years ago, during a doctor's visit, the doctor asked about my diet and said that my diet was well composed and balanced, and since I had already been a vegan for a long time, he wanted to check the b12 and ferritin level (probably included vitamin d). I have regular blood tests because my medication may affect the liver. I took an iron supplement after that (menstruation lowers iron) but everything else was fine. I'm actually less often sick, and usually when a flu makes everyone sick in the work community, I don't catch it. A healthy lifestyle is protective, but I suspect it is partly genetic. My husband is a vegetarian and his flu may not catch me. By the way, unbiased studies unequivocally link red meat and intestinal cancer to each other, so what about the health of omnivores?

If you have a vegan friend who is sick all the time they are probably just eating vegan junk food. There is a serious protein deficit if you do this. Also, just because someone is vegan does not mean they are eating a healthy vegan diet. Many potato chips and fizzy soda drinks are vegan and they're shockingly bad for you. This is also no reason to paint the whole community with the same brush. A whole foods plant based diet of organic fruits and vegetables is much healthier than the standard western diet of addictive ultra-processed foods and industrial meat. Ask any nutritionist. However, I am done trying to educate all of the BP community on this. If you're addicted to the slow death of fast food then so be it. Enjoy the diabetes and dementia, 'cause that's what it gets you. You truly are what you eat, after all.

It's bad for your health if you don't research how to do it. I know plenty of vegans who went into it very slowly, and only went full vegan when they knew how to supplement the nutrition they were leaving out by not eating dairy/meat etc.

I was lacto-ovo-pescatarian for two years for those who know what that means. I haven’t felt weaker, been sicker, and had less energy than the two years I spent eating meat substitutes and potatoes. Plant based diets can be done very well, and if done correctly, they are more environmentally sound and healthier. But many people, including myself, aren’t able to sustain that type of lifestyle long term. Edit: spelling

I feel like this is a YMMV thing based on your body and budget. I am definitely a meat eater but I've seen vegetarians / vegans that both were 'winning' and those who were not. I do think people stand a better chance if they have the food budget to get what they need. I've watched poor people (some relatives) do it and they lean too heavily into filing the gap with carbs.

Tofu is not, in most cases, hyper-processed. It's blended beans with a thickener. Many vegans, however, do get by on ultra-processed foods so I do still see your point. Done correctly, I think it can be quite healthy - it's just that many folks don't put in all the work required for that.

THIS! Humans are evolved to be omnivores. A true nutritional fact is meat provides us with all of our amino acids needed to remain healthy. When you do not complete the chain of aminos, your body will dispose of the incomplete chains. It's like not completing the puzzle, but because you don't have the pieces, so it's trash. For vegan/vegetarian diets to work, you need to FILL YOUR PLATE with all the colors.

If you just swap out what normally would be meat and dairy with substitutes, you won't get enough of everything you need. If you go all veggies, fruits, nuts & berries and no processed foods you'll be a lot healthier than the standard meat eater.

They dont set up charity schemes out of the goodness of their hearts - they are just minimizing their tax obligations. DONT donate to corporate charity schemes! Donate directly to the charity.

What one does to themselves, is probably for themselves, and not you. Some people get procedures because of a disfigurement, disorder, to fix another procedure. Like, imagine getting a masectomy because of breast cancer, and feeling so self-conscious it's all you can think about. So you go to the plastic surgeon to get breast enhancements. Then after people ripping you apart because they don't like seeing how unnatural your new figure looks.

I agree. They are not talking about dogs - they are talking about irresponsible dog owners who leave dog poo all over the street, on the sidewalk and in the parks. I love dogs and I was a dog owner until she passed away. I also have children who play and wrestle and fall over and pick things up and put them in their pockets. Public spaces are exactly that - for the enjoyment of the public and I can't let my kids play in the local park because there is dog shite everywhere. Our neighbors let their dog s**t on the sidewalk every day and we have to smell it and dodge it on the walk to school. You wouldn't appreciate me letting my kid p**s in park or poo on the grass and then just leaving it there. Your dog = your s**t. Clean it up.

Both are to blame. Be equals and share the work/love/housework/childcare etc.

That many charities exist only to contine being in existence and providing nice safe jobs for the senior management and a brag position for the trustees and not solve the problems they were originally set up to tackle.

Worked for several, only one I knew of ever completed their aims and closed. Wouldn't give most of them the snot out of my nose.

Woman enjoying pizza on a couch, illustrating a casual and relaxed moment. I don't think it's cheaper or particularly more convenient to eat unhealthily. Living off plain, healthy, simple food is much cheaper and as convenient as unhealthy food. The bulk of my diet is wholegrain rice, steamed vegetables (from the frozen section) and some protein. It's extremely cheap and fast and simple. When I buy frozen pizzas etc my bill per meal is always way more expensive.
I think the link between obesity and poverty is largely cultural.

Access also matters. The US has "food deserts" where fresh food simply isn't readily available. If you're working 2 or more jobs and still struggling to pay bills, you probably don't have the time or means to travel the distance necessary to buy healthier food.

Everyone knows the risks, why are some willing to take the risk for the sake of a like. Or those that cover the faces but post a picture of their DC online in a swimming costume with them facing away. Surely they know that is dangerous too?

I like London as a place to visit. I didn't much like living there. The Tube is so filthy it turned my snot black and made me sick all the time. I love the Indian food and the English do a good pub meal, but the lack of variety and quality of fresh produce is disappointing. For the 6 weeks a year the sun turns on its charm, London is amazing! People are friendly and happy and bright. The rest of the year not so much. There is a great culture and music scene but realistically - you can find that anywhere else. All in all, London is an amazing city. Head out there late spring, eat some curries, visit some bands, listen to music, enjoy the local pub, catch some amazing festivals and do all the things that float your boat, but take the bus or walk as much as possible and leave before the summer ends.

Sexism at it's best. Why the need to undervalue fathers? A mother can be selfish, d**g addict, lazy, mentally unstable etc. where the father can be healthy just as it can be the other way around. A mother can be just as cruel as a father can be. Or a Father can be just as caring as a mother can be. Generalizations are horrible for most things. For myself, my ex did not even held my kids for weeks. Did not feed them. Did not care for them. I did all of that. I've made their breakfast when they were going to school. I've dressed them. I've changed their diapers when they were babies, while my ex was off smoking and drinking and being her bipolar unhinged self. So, personally, f you to this statement.
