Chances are, you’ve got some unpopular opinions that you usually keep to yourself. Perhaps you love pineapple on pizza, or maybe you find chocolate to be repulsive. When I was in college, I was terrified to tell my friends that I had absolutely no interest in ever watching films or reading books about Harry Potter… And I was always thrilled when we’d get blessed with a gray and dreary day.
We’re not always willing to share these hot takes out loud, but it’s a bit easier to open up to strangers on the internet. Mumsnet users have recently been admitting their most controversial takes, so we’ve gathered the juiciest ones below. Enjoy scrolling through this list that you might find incredibly frustrating, and be sure to upvote the secret opinions that you actually agree with!

Not all behaviour can be dismissed as mental health issues, asd, adhd etc, some people are just tw*ts.
I think putting botox and fillers in your face is crazy. And those lips look stupid.
People who climb Everest, do free climbing or base jumping etc. Self-absorbed, selfish tw*ts. The damage it does to Everest. The sheer risk with all of them, putting their loved ones through stress, worry or loss and grief. And the people at risk if rescuing them or recovering their body.
Gender reveal parties are for chavs.
first time I ever heard about a gender reveal party I thought it was some sort of coming out party for trans people
Paying £££££ to get married. I say congratulations, but my word people are sucked in and could do so much more with the money.
Social media [content] creators are mental health issues waiting to happen.
I don’t understand why people are on Twitter / X.
It seems like a big toxic, waste of energy to me…
I really resent being asked for charity donations literally everywhere now. Every shop. Every single purchase. Inside supermarkets by the tills. Outside supermarkets. I just hate being hassled constantly. Just let me do what I'm doing and I'll donate to charities as and when I chose to.
The ugly aspect of those donations made in stores etc. is that those stores get to claim the deductions for YOUR donations made there. Absolutely despicable.
Fashion. It's purely designed to part the gullible from their money.
Sports. Particularly the big money making machine types. I don't understand why it's not more of a niche interest.
There was a meme or similar a good few years ago and it was basically, imagine if sports coverage was dedicated to archaeology, hourly news bulletins, sections of newspapers, endless coverage on TV, huge stars. Breaking news, star archaeologist Dr Richard Brown has signed a new contract to begin working in Corfu. And then everyone phoning in a radio show to discuss why he should dig somewhere else, people really upset because they were hoping he would dig at a place they preferred, live coverage of the ground being broken at the excavation site, with commentary and discussion from retired archaeologists.
There are too many dogs and some people who have dogs should just not own dogs.
That people who say proudly that they're not interested in politics and don't vote shouldn't be complaining about policies that they don't like as they did nothing to stop them.
I'm with George Carlin on the opposite. I'm tired of people who voted for what they wanted, got what they wanted and whine when they see they were duped. Those who didn't vote are not to blame. It's just a scapegoating projection tactic.
That gentle parenting often leads to poorly behaved children. The teachers in schools are having to pick up the pieces of this.
I think there's a delicate balance to find..treating your kids caringly while strictly disciplining them.
I think veganism is bad for your health. Most of my vegan friends seem to be ill much more than average, and I think they'd be much better if they were at least vegetarian.
I don't say that to them of course. I can see an argument for vegetarianism, but not veganism.
I tried going vegan for a couple months. I found it to be SO expensive to try to keep up with the demands for extra supplements and finding foods filling enough to feel full and satisfied. I got tired of beans and nuts real quick.
Everyone self diagnosing with ADHD. I know at least 3 people who claim to have it but have never been near even the GP with their concerns. Being a bit daft and scatty now and again isn’t necessarily ADHD. Sometimes it’s just that you’re a bit daft and scatty now and again.
I've got Real diagnosed ADD alohg with other memtal health issues and these idiots are so damaging to society
Load More Replies...As an adult it is incredibly difficult to even get an appointment to get diagnosed with ADHD. An eating disorder clinic I'm part of says ADHD is part of my problem but they can't diagnose or treat it as part of their clinic. GP says I have ADHD and has referred me to a specialist for a official diagnosis. I have 2 1/2 years to go till that appointment date. I'm 1 month away from being moved out of my solo cubicle hidden in the back of the office where I function very well to the hoard of 3ft high cubicles full of distractions. Without that official diagnosis I can't request accommodation.
Also all the people claiming to nureodivergent. While it is a condition, I don't think it's something that can be self-diagnosed.
Been seeing that word tossed around a lot lately. Is "neurodivergent " a real medical term, or something invented on social media?
Load More Replies...It wouldn't be a problem if this use this self-diagnosis for reflection and improving themselves. The issue is that they use it to excuse poor behavior.
Yeah. I suffer from ADD. I'm diagnosed with it. Got the diagnosis as an adult. Well after I was diagnosed, a guy I knew who was, objectively, not very bright, came out his a*s telling me he had a learning disability. It was obvious to me that he was looking for an excuse for all the stupid things I'd seen him say and do, and that became even more clear when I asked him for specifics and he started hemming and hawing. I found this deeply offensive, because my learning disability was very real.
Insecure people love a label, they'll stick one on their kids/dog/cat/hamster it makes them feel special
Being a hoarder because you don't have a minimalist home, having OCD because you like things a certain way. Lots of lables people attach to themselves or others...it annoying
I have SOOOOOOOOOOO many thoughts about this, but I’ll stick to a couple. Firstly, ADHD isn’t being a little scatterbrained or forgetful. It is a deficiency of specific brain chemicals that can cause forgetfulness, difficulty focusing, executive dysfunction, time blindness, rejection sensitivity, extreme hyperfixation to the point of forgetting basic needs. I remember a day where I painted for 8 hours straight and didn’t eat or drink because I was so hyperfocused on this painting. But. All diagnoses start with a self diagnosis. You don’t just get your ADHD certificate and a subscription to adderal when you turn 18. You or a guardian has to notice an issue and ask someone about it. Especially with female diagnoses, which are traditionally brought up much later in life for a number of reasons I don’t feel like getting into. But anyway, that’s my ted talk.
ADHD is one of those childhood diagnoses. You have to prove all the signs are there in your childhood. It can also be very expensive. You need to see specialists. This may involve a referral. Not everyone has a current family doctor to provide a referral. Not every family doctor is in the business of dealing with patients with extra needs like that. Some doctors are discouraging late assessments and diagnoses. With the internet so easily accessible with information on disorders and symptoms, it makes it all the more tempting to just do the research and look for answers on your own.
Being in the armed forces doesn’t automatically make you a hero and charities like ‘help for hero’s’ shouldn’t exist, it’s a job people chose to do, nobody these days is conscripted it’s a personal choice.
Agree, does not make you a hero. There are plenty of military personnel that are terrible people. Disagree that it's entirely a choice. I'd be interested to learn what percentage of US military were from low socio-economic status and/or extremely dysfunctional homes and felt enlisting was their only hope for stability, safety, healthcare, community, education - a future.
And anyone who wishes a happy birthday to their snuggly bumpkin on Facebook. I have been married 18 years now. I tell my husband face to face cos we aren’t 12.
For me it's folks who post happy birthday wishes to a celebrity who is never, ever going to see it. Especially if the celebrity is dead. I just don't see the point.
The Royal Family are an expensive waste of space and I find it baffling that anyone would think otherwise.
I'm not British, so maybe that's why I can't fully understand the hype behind the family. Especially Diana. She's been gone since 1997 and people are still writing books and making films about her. I have nothing against her at all, but why?
No, I don't want to see your holiday photos, or pictures of your child/grandchild.
Ever.
Ppl asking for charity donations on social media, sometimes they are doing something like running /walking, other times it's "it's my birthday' - really really winds me up. Not anti-charity but hate being guilt tripped into it.
I'd much prefer this option than corporations seeking donations. Not only do you NOT get the benefit of the tax deduction but the multimillion corporation does. They dont set up charity schemes out of the goodness of their hearts - they are just minimizing their tax obligations. DONT donate to corporate charity schemes! Donate directly to the charity.
I irritate myself with my own instinctive belief that a lot of children are really badly parented and that their shi**y behaviours are the direct result of that bad parenting. Intellectually, I'm far more nuanced, completely believe that there are a lot of complex factors at plat etc etc... but deep down, I think I'm a big fat judgey pants and I don't like it.
Also, I'm terrified that I'm one of those parents and that I'm as delusional as I think so many of them are. I hope I'm not. But... it's a worry'!
Nearly all plastic surgery, 'b**b jobs' and the like are a pointless narcissistic waste of money and medical resources.
What one does to themselves, is probably for themselves, and not you. Some people get procedures because of a disfigurement, disorder, to fix another procedure. Like, imagine getting a masectomy because of breast cancer, and feeling so self-conscious it's all you can think about. So you go to the plastic surgeon to get breast enhancements. Then after people ripping you apart because they don't like seeing how unnatural your new figure looks.
The number of people now requiring special and individualised, and often competing arrangements to accommodate things like neurodivergence is going to lead to a fractured and individualistic society where it will be even harder to function with neurodivergence.
And I say this as a parent to a child with Asperger’s syndrome. I spend so much effort preparing him for the world to the best of his ability but other parents seem to want the world to bend for their child.
People who complain about people on social media (showing off, bragging, going on too many holidays, etc.). How do you know they are doing all this stuff unless you follow them or are on it? Just unfollow them, get off social media yourself if you think it’s so bad?
People who’s lives revolve around work need to give their heads a wobble.
My family first generation American grandparents engrained in my parents and us that work ethic and craftsmanship define you and make you a respectable contributor to society. Now it feels like most people are working for billionaires that are doing their best to bleed us all dry.
Pet owners who spend 1000s on vet bills for seriously ill and dying animals, who should just be put to sleep. Prolonging their life with endless medical treatments and surgeries is cruel in my opinion.
Leaving dog s**t on the streets/parks/beaches should be a criminal offence resulting in a heavy fine and the loss of your dog. All dogs should be on a DNA database and licensed. Dog s**t should be tested, and the resultant fines should be big enough to pay for the system to run. If you lose your dog for fouling, you can never own another one.
I agree. They are not talking about dogs - they are talking about irresponsible dog owners who leave dog poo all over the street, on the sidewalk and in the parks. I love dogs and I was a dog owner until she passed away. I also have children who play and wrestle and fall over and pick things up and put them in their pockets. Public spaces are exactly that - for the enjoyment of the public and I can't let my kids play in the local park because there is dog shite everywhere. Our neighbors let their dog s**t on the sidewalk every day and we have to smell it and dodge it on the walk to school. You wouldn't appreciate me letting my kid p**s in park or poo on the grass and then just leaving it there. Your dog = your s**t. Clean it up.
People who say "that's just me" to excuse tw*tish behaviour. Like behaviour isn't something you can change.
Drama, drama, drama all the time people. Don't understand why they can't just put on their adulting hat and crack on in a nice orderly fashion. That said, I think everyone has the right to have a meltdown every so often, get it all out, shake it off, move on. But like, once in a blue moon yeah?
That a foreign holiday is not a human right. Especially if you go into debt for it.
Having a mum (usually stay at home but with no shared finances) who puts up with a sh*t father who does nothing, negatively impacts a child’s upbringing and ensures that this ridiculous cycle continues, where the mum is labelled a martyr and has no respect, and the father seems to get away with everything both financially and emotionally. Both are to blame. Be equals and share the work/love/housework/childcare etc.
Mmmm, I'll just relax after work with some light hearted fun on BP? Nah, here's the opinions of some privileged, right wing fücknuggets. But I do like pineapple on pizza, though!!
i reckon this comment will get more of a reaction that the whole post i am referring to pineapple on pizza comment
Load More Replies...Pointless collection of rage-bait “opinions”. I’m surprised BP didn’t include a couple of, “You know, Hitler actually had a point” statements.
Well, as for the intro, I am 100% pro pineapple on pizza, and while I do enjoy chocolate, I dislike chocolate ice cream and chocolate cake (while loving many other flavours of both confections). And I have no hesitation to admit either fact, online or in person.
I love chocolate ice-cream, but I'm with you on the chocolate cake. I really WANT to like chocolate cake but I just... dont.

Wait for a week or so and you'll probably be able to see the whole shebang.

Somewhere in the 40s the posts on this list started to turn towards the 'you should have kept this secret viewpoint a secret' territory...
Pineapple on pizza is amazing. Get the hell out of here with your sardines. Buffalo chicken or spinach and white cheese are also good
My hot take is that integrals are easier than derivatives. No matter the form of the integral.
How about all the people butthurt about what others spend their money on. It's their money!
I have notifications that I have replies to a comment but when I click it, it takes me nowhere! Anyone else with this problem?
What a hareful list turned into. BP shouldn't be given these posters a platform for their ignorant and prejudiced views.
½ of these are genuinely bad. ½ are judgmental opinions
