Chances are, you’ve got some unpopular opinions that you usually keep to yourself. Perhaps you love pineapple on pizza, or maybe you find chocolate to be repulsive. When I was in college, I was terrified to tell my friends that I had absolutely no interest in ever watching films or reading books about Harry Potter… And I was always thrilled when we’d get blessed with a gray and dreary day.
We’re not always willing to share these hot takes out loud, but it’s a bit easier to open up to strangers on the internet. Mumsnet users have recently been admitting their most controversial takes, so we’ve gathered the juiciest ones below. Enjoy scrolling through this list that you might find incredibly frustrating, and be sure to upvote the secret opinions that you actually agree with!

Not all behaviour can be dismissed as mental health issues, asd, adhd etc, some people are just tw*ts.
I think putting botox and fillers in your face is crazy. And those lips look stupid.
People who climb Everest, do free climbing or base jumping etc. Self-absorbed, selfish tw*ts. The damage it does to Everest. The sheer risk with all of them, putting their loved ones through stress, worry or loss and grief. And the people at risk if rescuing them or recovering their body.
Gender reveal parties are for chavs.
first time I ever heard about a gender reveal party I thought it was some sort of coming out party for trans people
Paying £££££ to get married. I say congratulations, but my word people are sucked in and could do so much more with the money.
I really resent being asked for charity donations literally everywhere now. Every shop. Every single purchase. Inside supermarkets by the tills. Outside supermarkets. I just hate being hassled constantly. Just let me do what I'm doing and I'll donate to charities as and when I chose to.
The ugly aspect of those donations made in stores etc. is that those stores get to claim the deductions for YOUR donations made there. Absolutely despicable.
Social media [content] creators are mental health issues waiting to happen.
I don’t understand why people are on Twitter / X.
It seems like a big toxic, waste of energy to me…
That people who say proudly that they're not interested in politics and don't vote shouldn't be complaining about policies that they don't like as they did nothing to stop them.
I'm with George Carlin on the opposite. I'm tired of people who voted for what they wanted, got what they wanted and whine when they see they were duped. Those who didn't vote are not to blame. It's just a scapegoating projection tactic.
Fashion. It's purely designed to part the gullible from their money.
That gentle parenting often leads to poorly behaved children. The teachers in schools are having to pick up the pieces of this.
I think there's a delicate balance to find..treating your kids caringly while strictly disciplining them.
Sports. Particularly the big money making machine types. I don't understand why it's not more of a niche interest.
There was a meme or similar a good few years ago and it was basically, imagine if sports coverage was dedicated to archaeology, hourly news bulletins, sections of newspapers, endless coverage on TV, huge stars. Breaking news, star archaeologist Dr Richard Brown has signed a new contract to begin working in Corfu. And then everyone phoning in a radio show to discuss why he should dig somewhere else, people really upset because they were hoping he would dig at a place they preferred, live coverage of the ground being broken at the excavation site, with commentary and discussion from retired archaeologists.
There are too many dogs and some people who have dogs should just not own dogs.
I think veganism is bad for your health. Most of my vegan friends seem to be ill much more than average, and I think they'd be much better if they were at least vegetarian.
I don't say that to them of course. I can see an argument for vegetarianism, but not veganism.
I tried going vegan for a couple months. I found it to be SO expensive to try to keep up with the demands for extra supplements and finding foods filling enough to feel full and satisfied. I got tired of beans and nuts real quick.
Everyone self diagnosing with ADHD. I know at least 3 people who claim to have it but have never been near even the GP with their concerns. Being a bit daft and scatty now and again isn’t necessarily ADHD. Sometimes it’s just that you’re a bit daft and scatty now and again.
Being in the armed forces doesn’t automatically make you a hero and charities like ‘help for hero’s’ shouldn’t exist, it’s a job people chose to do, nobody these days is conscripted it’s a personal choice.
Agree, does not make you a hero. There are plenty of military personnel that are terrible people. Disagree that it's entirely a choice. I'd be interested to learn what percentage of US military were from low socio-economic status and/or extremely dysfunctional homes and felt enlisting was their only hope for stability, safety, healthcare, community, education - a future.
I came from dirt poor, did 8ish years, got out and made a semi-decent life (still difficulties, but that is the same with all families). There were others, like me, who joined to leave poverty, get education, etc. There are bad seeds, and they ruin it for everyone. Charities however it depends. I believe they should exist to help those who are falling through the cracks (22 a day vets, DVs, etc.) but I don't believe all should be able to use it(and am pretty sure that the approval for that aid is just as hard as what Uncle Sam says you get for benefits)
Load More Replies...It is a choice, and not all are heroes or honorable. Charities for those wounded in a combat area are very justified - just need to vette them to your satisfaction that they are legitimate. I am a Cold War veteran, never deployed to a combat zone or fired a shot in anger. I did enlist to get away from a deteriorating home scene, and also knew working retail and going to the local community college would not "solve" me. So I joined, learned construction, demolition, bridge building, administrative tasks, and learned how to drive a truck. I also learned discipline, leadership and the need for mission fulfillment. All of these served me well in my recently concluded civilian career. I had also lived in Hawaii and Germany, driven coast to coast and visited 19 states before I was 27. It is not for everyone, but it was for me. Even though I did nothing "heroic", I did my duty, honorably and proudly, and have few regrets. I do not look for charity, but do accept Veteran Discounts.
After how the military has been used and abused and lied to and lied into useless Wars like Vietnam and Iraq and Afghanistan, I don't know why anybody in their right mind would join the military unless they have no other choice to make a living.
You answered your own question. Military completely preys on people who have few economic choices.
Load More Replies...Speaking as a veteran here, I absolutely detest this thank you for your service and hero bs. Like the poster says it's a choice you make there is no draft. What really pisses me off is the wounded warrior charities that only exist to fleece money from gullible "patriots" to pay for veteran health care... It's called the VA it's the only socialized medical system in the country of you lost a leg in combat I promise you those people are not hoping for the charity of others to make it, they are taken care of by the VA, and will likely get social security disability as well as veterans disability, they will be fine. These charities only serve to enrich the charity founders, like our possible future secretary of defence Pete hagsath, a*s hole stole from a veteran charity he worked for, they are all corrupt never give them a cent. If you want to help veterans volunteer at your local VA, they will appreciate the help.
US Veteran here: When you join the military, you give up a TON of liberties that civilians have that they don't even think about.
If the government would take care of the "wounded warriors" as they should, these charities wouldn't be needed. The military may be your choice, but if you're crippled for life, your bosses need to cover your new costs of living.
If the government were to keep its promises to all of "our warriors"
Load More Replies...DISAGREE. Not about the 'hero' part, but even voluntary service in peace time takes a toll on your life. For me it was nine years of my life. But also, I've never received assistance from vet related charities. I'm guessing most of that stuff is for people who got physically / mentally injured in real combat doing things for our country. You could use the same mentality for any fireman, paramedic / first responder. "They were not conscripted so why should we help them if they got injured helping the public? It was their personal choice." Yeah, but they are doing jobs to help others that are often dangerous.
Some of the Wounded Veteran charities give 20% or lower to veterans, and 80% to administrative costs. Check reviews, and websites.
One of the most at alien things to me iin the US-society is that automated „thank you for your service“! I find that absolutely bizarre
My unpopular opinion is: All it takes to be a veteran is a hat that says 'veteran' on it. They can be easily bought and pay for themselves in stolen valor.
When I was growing up we (teens in the US) were in a weird post Vietnam, pre Afghanistan/Iraq war period where most people interested in joining the armed forces were the masochistic a-holes who just like guns and hurting others.
That's a really interesting perspective. I was born in '65 and in my teens everyone I knew of who joined did it for the free education. I wonder how that breaks down demographically nationwide as the majority of enlistees I knew were women.
Load More Replies...The US's lionisation of the military is frightening. I grew up in a place where the army (not the US army, though) was an invading force, patrolling the streets. Then I see so many people saying "thank you for your service" all over US media. It makes me deeply uncomfortable.
I've never met a veteran that considers themselves a hero. If they do they are probably a pos. And veterans don't like to be called heroes either. Sure nobody is conscripted but the choice to potentially give up your life for the freedoms ours (and other) countries is admirable. Deep down I think most veterans think that anyone that could but diddn't serve, the ones that say they "almost joined. Are just a bunch of p+$$13s.
When I enlisted into the Army in 1978, I had just lost my job, my new wife was 5 months pregnant and we didn’t have the resources to survive. I planned on my enlistment of four years to be it. After being in the army for 10 years, I ended up being medically retired with a small disability. My last 3 years I was a recruiter in the Los Angeles area and there were as many reasons for enlisting as there were future soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines. I don’t donate to many so-called veterans charities but I do keep my membership in The American Legion and are fairly active. As a member of the Legion Riders, we have the task to ensure all the veterans that want to be escorted to their final resting place goes out with honor.
Yes, reverence for the military is historically a sign of encroaching fascism. I mean don't get me wrong, when I'm in a conversation with someone who turns out to be a veteran, I thank them for their service, but I don't put them on a pedestal.
„Thanking them for their service“ without actually knowing what they did IS putting them on a pedestal
Load More Replies...Um... it's funny to me that no one has mentioned that no, in fact, many of those men did not choose the military like any other job. Have you forgotten that many were told they had to go fight and given no other choice. And many of them never returned. So have some respect please.
I read about a true crime case a few years ago in which a con was offered the option of finishing his jail time in the armed forces. He took it, and used the experience to get hired as a security guard after he mustered out. And then committed a sex crime on the job.
Load More Replies...Yes, i take that is for the US military wich protected the freedom of their citizens in the US how many times the last 100 years? Was it zero? How beeing in vietnam or iraq or wherever was exactly protecting the normal US citizen eludes me, to be honest
Load More Replies...And anyone who wishes a happy birthday to their snuggly bumpkin on Facebook. I have been married 18 years now. I tell my husband face to face cos we aren’t 12.
For me it's folks who post happy birthday wishes to a celebrity who is never, ever going to see it. Especially if the celebrity is dead. I just don't see the point.
Ppl asking for charity donations on social media, sometimes they are doing something like running /walking, other times it's "it's my birthday' - really really winds me up. Not anti-charity but hate being guilt tripped into it.
I'd much prefer this option than corporations seeking donations. Not only do you NOT get the benefit of the tax deduction but the multimillion corporation does. They dont set up charity schemes out of the goodness of their hearts - they are just minimizing their tax obligations. DONT donate to corporate charity schemes! Donate directly to the charity.
The Royal Family are an expensive waste of space and I find it baffling that anyone would think otherwise.
I'm not British, so maybe that's why I can't fully understand the hype behind the family. Especially Diana. She's been gone since 1997 and people are still writing books and making films about her. I have nothing against her at all, but why?
No, I don't want to see your holiday photos, or pictures of your child/grandchild.
Ever.
I irritate myself with my own instinctive belief that a lot of children are really badly parented and that their shi**y behaviours are the direct result of that bad parenting. Intellectually, I'm far more nuanced, completely believe that there are a lot of complex factors at plat etc etc... but deep down, I think I'm a big fat judgey pants and I don't like it.
Also, I'm terrified that I'm one of those parents and that I'm as delusional as I think so many of them are. I hope I'm not. But... it's a worry'!
Nearly all plastic surgery, 'b**b jobs' and the like are a pointless narcissistic waste of money and medical resources.
What one does to themselves, is probably for themselves, and not you. Some people get procedures because of a disfigurement, disorder, to fix another procedure. Like, imagine getting a masectomy because of breast cancer, and feeling so self-conscious it's all you can think about. So you go to the plastic surgeon to get breast enhancements. Then after people ripping you apart because they don't like seeing how unnatural your new figure looks.
The number of people now requiring special and individualised, and often competing arrangements to accommodate things like neurodivergence is going to lead to a fractured and individualistic society where it will be even harder to function with neurodivergence.
And I say this as a parent to a child with Asperger’s syndrome. I spend so much effort preparing him for the world to the best of his ability but other parents seem to want the world to bend for their child.
People who complain about people on social media (showing off, bragging, going on too many holidays, etc.). How do you know they are doing all this stuff unless you follow them or are on it? Just unfollow them, get off social media yourself if you think it’s so bad?
People who’s lives revolve around work need to give their heads a wobble.
My family first generation American grandparents engrained in my parents and us that work ethic and craftsmanship define you and make you a respectable contributor to society. Now it feels like most people are working for billionaires that are doing their best to bleed us all dry.
Pet owners who spend 1000s on vet bills for seriously ill and dying animals, who should just be put to sleep. Prolonging their life with endless medical treatments and surgeries is cruel in my opinion.
Leaving dog s**t on the streets/parks/beaches should be a criminal offence resulting in a heavy fine and the loss of your dog. All dogs should be on a DNA database and licensed. Dog s**t should be tested, and the resultant fines should be big enough to pay for the system to run. If you lose your dog for fouling, you can never own another one.
I agree. They are not talking about dogs - they are talking about irresponsible dog owners who leave dog poo all over the street, on the sidewalk and in the parks. I love dogs and I was a dog owner until she passed away. I also have children who play and wrestle and fall over and pick things up and put them in their pockets. Public spaces are exactly that - for the enjoyment of the public and I can't let my kids play in the local park because there is dog shite everywhere. Our neighbors let their dog s**t on the sidewalk every day and we have to smell it and dodge it on the walk to school. You wouldn't appreciate me letting my kid p**s in park or poo on the grass and then just leaving it there. Your dog = your s**t. Clean it up.
People who say "that's just me" to excuse tw*tish behaviour. Like behaviour isn't something you can change.
Drama, drama, drama all the time people. Don't understand why they can't just put on their adulting hat and crack on in a nice orderly fashion. That said, I think everyone has the right to have a meltdown every so often, get it all out, shake it off, move on. But like, once in a blue moon yeah?
That a foreign holiday is not a human right. Especially if you go into debt for it.
Having a mum (usually stay at home but with no shared finances) who puts up with a sh*t father who does nothing, negatively impacts a child’s upbringing and ensures that this ridiculous cycle continues, where the mum is labelled a martyr and has no respect, and the father seems to get away with everything both financially and emotionally. Both are to blame. Be equals and share the work/love/housework/childcare etc.
Mmmm, I'll just relax after work with some light hearted fun on BP? Nah, here's the opinions of some privileged, right wing fücknuggets. But I do like pineapple on pizza, though!!
i reckon this comment will get more of a reaction that the whole post i am referring to pineapple on pizza comment

Well, as for the intro, I am 100% pro pineapple on pizza, and while I do enjoy chocolate, I dislike chocolate ice cream and chocolate cake (while loving many other flavours of both confections). And I have no hesitation to admit either fact, online or in person.
I love chocolate ice-cream, but I'm with you on the chocolate cake. I really WANT to like chocolate cake but I just... dont.

Pineapple on pizza is amazing. Get the hell out of here with your sardines. Buffalo chicken or spinach and white cheese are also good
My hot take is that integrals are easier than derivatives. No matter the form of the integral.
How about all the people butthurt about what others spend their money on. It's their money!
