“Teen Boys With Alpaca Hair”: 30 Fashion Trends That People Have Had Enough Of
Interview With ExpertAccording to social media, skinny jeans are out! It’s also extremely embarrassing to wear ankle socks or leggings that don't flare at the bottom. And whatever you do, don’t even think about leaving the house with your hair parted on one side.
Fashion is constantly changing, and as soon as you catch up with the times, there will be a new trend coming around the corner to criticize your taste. But just because a certain style is popular doesn’t mean that it’s actually that great. Redditors have recently been calling out current trends that they’ve had enough of, so we’ve gathered some of their unpopular opinions below. Enjoy channeling your inner Miranda Priestly while scrolling through this list, and be sure to upvote the trends you’d like to see disappear too. And keep reading to find conversations with the Reddit user who started this thread and Certified Image Consultant and Color Specialist, Heather Riggs!

Wearing a dead salmon on your head. It feels like we're back in the 80's again.
"Patriot" clothing and beards. Grunt style, nine line... all these fools dressing like they're special forces, their entire identity tied to "1776".
It's embarrassing.
To find out how this conversation started in the first place, we got in touch with the Reddit user who created this thread, Idealistic-salmon. She was kind enough to have a chat with Bored Panda and share what inspired her post.
"To be frank, I was watching a video on TikTok, and a woman appeared on my screen with big fake lips and false eyelashes. And I wondered to myself how quickly this look would go out of fashion," she said. "Then I began wondering about fast fashion trends and thought I’d ask a broader audience!"
The ridiculous false eyelashes.
I get it. I've got no problem with the ones that at least have a semblance of being natural. But the uber thick ones that look more like fur are just...pointless.
Someone I deal with at work wears them. And it's so weird, because most of the time she dresses down in sweatshirts, jeans, sneakers, etc. And doesn't pay much attention to her hair. But she's got those stupid wooly caterpillar eyelashes in. They just call attention to how un put together the rest of her is.
I know that everyone should just dress for themselves, but it's just weird.
Not fashion per se, but I’m a hairstylist and I’m quite over this modern mullet trend lol.
Vegan leather is just plastic.
And plastic isn't vegan. Since plastic is made from petroleum, and petroleum is made from fossil fuels, and a good portion of fossil fuel comes from animals
We also asked the author if there were any trends that she would like to see go out of style. "Honestly, I have multiple trends that I can’t stand at the moment, and from my comments, it seems that there are many who feel the same," she shared. "Cropped EVERYTHING, leopard print, Crocs, fake eyelashes, long dresses and skirts with high slits, random cutouts in clothing... I could go on."
Overconsumption.. we dont need all the products influences are pushing on us.
Excessive Botox in young people.
I’m so tired of everyone having a frozen face. It’s not pretty. It’s just weird.
It is, I’m each to their own but this one is going too far, I’m stunned anytime I go through drive through etc and see a Very young adult with fillers and lashes and sausage lips and the super long nails, in a maccas drive through, no where special.
Suits/formal wear that is tight and short,
I just don't get it???? Maybe its generational (IM 58)
But seeing men wearing pants that are tight and 3inches too short so it shows your socks? With a jacket that is short in the sleeves and tight!,
What happened to well fitted?, not that i want to go back to oversized double breasted suits with cuffs 😁.
So why have these trends become so popular? "Fashion is subjective and this I understand, but it’s the fast fashion that pushes these garments onto buyers, which in turn makes them seem more popular, and the cycle continues," the OP says.
"I think the majority listed above will definitely go out of style, as the trends favor the generation most dominant on social media. Right now it’s run by Gen Z who are pushing for aesthetics such as 'Y2K', 'clean girl', 'old money', which will quickly push out the trends that don’t coincide. Functionality will always reign superior, therefore the one thing listed [above] that has the potential to stay are Crocs (funnily enough)."
Children (I’ve mostly seen around ages 9-13) going to Sephora for anti-aging serums and makeup. You all can hardly go to the park by yourselves yet you’re plastered in expensive creams and makeup like you’re 20+ .-.
Despite being the personification of poor life choices, the mullet and moustache combo somehow refuses to die.
Those massive, chunky sneakers that look like they’re from a sci-fi movie. Why do my shoes need to look like they can survive on Mars?
We also asked the author what she thought of the replies to her post. "I was honestly shocked that the post gained so much traction, but the replies made me laugh and also consider what I had in my own wardrobe," Idealistic-salmon said. "It sparked a lot of debate, especially regarding jeans - skinny, baggy, low rise, high rise - but I think the main takeaway is that fashion is so subjective, and what might be someone’s favorite trend might be someone’s most hated."
Fast fashion. Congratulations on destroying the planet and exploiting workers.
I'm looking in my closet, I'm not convinced there's a single piece in here that was purchased new from the store in the last 25 years. Everything else is vintage / thrift
Fake freckles. Be done with it.
Actually freckled people: "Look what they need to mimic a fraction of our power!"
Sagging pants on teen boys (on anyone, really). It started off stupid and has just become stupider. I'm a high school teacher. I've started refering to what the boys wear as "leggings". They complain. I point out that what they are wearing only covers their legs. Pull your pants up over your a*s!
Finally, the author shared some words of wisdom about fashion. "It’s important for people to realize that people can dislike things that you like. It’s not up to you to convince them that what you like is cool," she said.
"Own your style, dress how you want, wear the low or high rise or skinny or baggy jeans - dress however YOU feel best! Some TikTok of some girl saying baggy jeans are 'out' shouldn’t cause you to throw out your baggy jeans even though you love them," Idealistic-salmon continued. "Trends and the celebrities that endorse them have power because YOU give it to them. Do what you want. You have one life."
Cropped clothes. I can’t stand it, all stores make most tops cropped!
Cropped clothes are fine if you're a 5ft5 female as that's the size they're usually designed for in most clothing shops. Try a cropped top on when you're 6ft tall and it's just ridiculous. Also, What's the point of a cropped jumper? If it's cold enough to need the jumper, then you need one that covers your midriff so it can actually do what it's designed for and keep you warm.
I hear ya, I'm not a fan of crop tops at all. For one, I don't have the kind of confidence some of these bigger, younger ladies have, to rock a crop top. I'm a little on the thicker side, with a little too much of a pooch to be showing off my midriff. I could wear the really high rise pants to tuck it in better but I still won't wear them. I used to be way thinner and in really great shape, I was in the military so I had to keep up with standards. Now that I'm disabled and the biggest I've ever been, I usually rock sweatpants and comfy shirts. Haha
Load More Replies...There is almost nothing an older woman, who is not ready to give up on her appearance and buy stretch polyester clothes from Parade magazine, can wear and not look ridiculous. And by older I mean old enough to rent a car.
I wear some cropped tops when wearing certain skirts, because I just look like a straight up and down lump if the top covers the top of the skirt.
as i person who lives in a hot country my wardrobe is basically crop tops and oversized shirts (cause they are loose). Had to go to a funeral and freaked out cause i didnt have anything to wear lol
Well I personally find crop tops very much aesthetically pleasing, even much more than big cleavages. But I agree that there should be variety as I also know the hell of not being able to buy anything that fits you and feels comfortable at the same time.
Rubbish! Most trendy shops make some crop tops, but nowhere near what you're indicating. I'm from the UK. B******t this!
Trousers that show too much ankle. I cannot stand it. Looks like your mum shrunk your clothes in the wash.
Back when I was young....50+ years ago, we were teased. Waiting for a flood?
Broccoli hair.
Nah. This style is far better than some of the insane styles from the latter half of the 20th century.
We were also lucky enough to get in touch with Certified Image Consultant and Color Specialist, Heather Riggs. Heather is the founder and CEO of Her Style, so we were curious to hear her thoughts on trends that she's not a fan of.
"Everything oversized! Boxy and baggy pieces have the ability to work really well, but not for all women," she told Bored Panda. "I've seen so many people struggling to shop in recent years, because it's hard to find pants that aren't wide-leg or super high-rise and tops that aren't enormous or cropped. It can be tricky to pull off silhouettes like these without getting swallowed up by your clothes."
“Micro shorts” babe that’s panties made of a slightly thicker material.
The guessing game every summer: are those supposed to be shorts, or did she deada$$ forgot to put her pants on?
We also asked the style expert why she thinks these trends become so popular. "It's funny to see people's love/hate reactions to trends like barrel jeans. Typically, trends begin on the runway and then trickle down to the masses. What we need to keep in mind is that designers often create exaggerated shapes and silhouettes to make a statement or create a WOW factor during Fashion Week," Heather explained.
"And of course, the biggest goal for any brand is to encourage consumers to buy more. So it becomes necessary to introduce new ideas that will become adopted by the trendsetters (often those with a more dramatic or creative personal style) and then copied by others who really want to keep their wardrobes feeling current."
Pajamas. Everywhere I look, target, Nordstrom, Starbucks, sports games.
People are wearing PAJAMAS and SLIPPERS.
Pencil thin eyebrows seem to be coming back. I’ve warned my kids that if they do that, they’ll be lucky if their eyebrows grow back at all.
I told my mother-in-law that she was drawing her eyebrows on too high. She looked surprised.
On the other hand, there are some trends that Heather is excited to see come back into style. "I'm excited to see the tides turning back to include more streamlined and fitted silhouettes again - like the recent return of skinny jeans! Versatility is key, and I'm glad the idea of what's 'cool' is slowly expanding," she shared. "I love seeing people embrace what looks best on them, regardless of trends and fads."
That nose ring in the middle. Just doesn't look good to me. You do you. But just think it doesn't look good very often.
Getting plastic surgery to look younger even when you're in your 20s. I know a girl in her 20s who looks like a 40-year-old angry housewife because she's had her cheeks and lips done to the point where she barely looks human anymore. Her hair goes all the way down to her butt and she dyes it constantly, and her pants are so tight that you can see the crack of her vagina and a*s.
There's no f*cking way that I would spend $10,000 just to look like a statue who smokes meth.
These ones always make me sad, cos they are generally very genetically *blessed to begin with and just ruin their amazingly natural look.
The expert also provided some advice for anyone who wants to find what they look and feel best in. "First, remember that fashion is cyclical. What's 'out' today might be back 'in' tomorrow," Heather says. "So if your personal preferences go against the grain of what everyone else is wearing, remember it's only temporary. Hold onto the pieces you love, wear them anyway, and give them time to inevitably start trending again."
I'm a high school teacher and a surprising number of the boys dress like it's 2000 and they've got Limp Bizkit's *Nookie* on repeat.
There's one kid that looks like he's from 1977. Puka shells, feathered hair, big, open collars. I like that kid.
I have noticed that school kids now look as stupid as we looked back in the 90s….
thanks god. School kids need to look stupid, its good for then. Those kids that dress like they're 20+ pilates obsessed office girls suck
"Before you start shopping each season, take a pulse on what's currently working for you and where the gaps are in your wardrobe," Heather continued. "Once you're clear on which silhouettes flatter your body, what styles work for your real life needs, and which colors bring out your best, it becomes a million times easier to build a wardrobe you love. I highly recommend shopping with a prioritized list as a way to avoid impulse buying and to ensure you're scooping up what you actually need to get dressed quickly and confidently each day."
Political attire as someone's entire main wardrobe, no matter the side of the spectrum. You got more personality than that!
"Both side of the spectrum"? We all know this is 95% about one side of the spectrum.
Finally, the style expert says, "Your preferred styles might not be prevalent this season but that doesn't mean they can't be found. Instead of aimlessly browsing online, search specifically on Google, Pinterest, or your preferred retailers for the exact items you want. You can also explore secondhand shops locally or online, which can be a goldmine of treasures from seasons past."

Eyebrows that are brushed upwards. That's the only way I can think to describe it. I can't see anything else when looking at someone who has that style brows. I just don't know why people like it.
As I age, my eyebrows get too long, and my hairline recedes, I do an eyebrow combover
Took my cousin to prom and saw at least 30 dudes wearing a suit with shorts.
What gets me: we have millennia of clothing styles to choose from, and these days it's not impossible to get fabrics at least similar to, idk, 1730 court dresses from France, or 1890 fashion from Japan. Instead we're looking incredibly uniform. The lack of colour variation alone is depressing. I'm glad for every young person dressing like an explosion in the fashion department of our local museum, and for every man, young or old, wearing a kilt. At least something different!
I've been known to wear a Victorian-style ball gown just randomly in my everyday life, so it's not impossible!
Load More Replies...as a 17 year old, it might just be me but so many of these look SO good on certain people. like some people pull it off so well
I'd rather cringe than boring! Everyone where I live looks like they just rolled out of bed: men and women. If I wear a dress and brush my hair then I'm the best dressed person around. I wish people still put some effort in!
This is a positive one. It's not exactly a recent trend but there has never been a fashion trend I've seen in my entire life that is as pants-expandingly sexy as brightly coloured hair. A woman with sapphire blue hair came into my store the other day and I was properly three-legged.
You want people to PAY for Reddit copy/paste ? Know what Fat Chance means in the Euro Zone ? Know what HELLNO means ?
High school teacher here, most of my students wear the boring teenage "uniform" (90s sneakers, baggy jeans + hoodie in dull colors), but I love when I see young ppl (mostly in their twenties and in bigger cities) expressing their personality through their colorful and weird attire, I think it's just great that nowadays being original is being trendy - growing up in the 90s you would get sidelooks if you did that, everything was much more normalized... But now I love that "You do you Boo" mentality :)
Never been into clothes. Give me a well fitted pair of jeans, a long sleeve dress shirt, a well fitted blazer, and a pair of sneakers, and I'm pretty good to go anywhere.
I pretty much just wear leggings and t-shirts or sweatshirts. Sometimes I’ll switch it up with cargo pants or flannels. Comfy and cozy.
Funny how so may millennials have turned into their great, great grands and are in love with the crotch cutting tight pants.
