According to social media, skinny jeans are out! It’s also extremely embarrassing to wear ankle socks or leggings that don't flare at the bottom. And whatever you do, don’t even think about leaving the house with your hair parted on one side.

Fashion is constantly changing, and as soon as you catch up with the times, there will be a new trend coming around the corner to criticize your taste. But just because a certain style is popular doesn’t mean that it’s actually that great. Redditors have recently been calling out current trends that they’ve had enough of, so we’ve gathered some of their unpopular opinions below. Enjoy channeling your inner Miranda Priestly while scrolling through this list, and be sure to upvote the trends you’d like to see disappear too. And keep reading to find conversations with the Reddit user who started this thread and Certified Image Consultant and Color Specialist, Heather Riggs!

To find out how this conversation started in the first place, we got in touch with the Reddit user who created this thread, Idealistic-salmon. She was kind enough to have a chat with Bored Panda and share what inspired her post.

"To be frank, I was watching a video on TikTok, and a woman appeared on my screen with big fake lips and false eyelashes. And I wondered to myself how quickly this look would go out of fashion," she said. "Then I began wondering about fast fashion trends and thought I’d ask a broader audience!"

Close-up of a person with heavy makeup and false eyelashes, reflecting controversial fashion trends. The ridiculous false eyelashes.

I get it. I've got no problem with the ones that at least have a semblance of being natural. But the uber thick ones that look more like fur are just...pointless.

Someone I deal with at work wears them. And it's so weird, because most of the time she dresses down in sweatshirts, jeans, sneakers, etc. And doesn't pay much attention to her hair. But she's got those stupid wooly caterpillar eyelashes in. They just call attention to how un put together the rest of her is.

I know that everyone should just dress for themselves, but it's just weird.

So why have these trends become so popular? "Fashion is subjective and this I understand, but it’s the fast fashion that pushes these garments onto buyers, which in turn makes them seem more popular, and the cycle continues," the OP says.

"I think the majority listed above will definitely go out of style, as the trends favor the generation most dominant on social media. Right now it’s run by Gen Z who are pushing for aesthetics such as 'Y2K', 'clean girl', 'old money', which will quickly push out the trends that don’t coincide. Functionality will always reign superior, therefore the one thing listed [above] that has the potential to stay are Crocs (funnily enough)."

“Teen Boys With Alpaca Hair”: 30 Fashion Trends That People Have Had Enough Of Sagging pants on teen boys (on anyone, really). It started off stupid and has just become stupider. I'm a high school teacher. I've started refering to what the boys wear as "leggings". They complain. I point out that what they are wearing only covers their legs. Pull your pants up over your a*s!

ZotDragon , Samsamuels2002 / Wikipedia (not the actual photo) Report

Finally, the author shared some words of wisdom about fashion. "It’s important for people to realize that people can dislike things that you like. It’s not up to you to convince them that what you like is cool," she said.

"Own your style, dress how you want, wear the low or high rise or skinny or baggy jeans - dress however YOU feel best! Some TikTok of some girl saying baggy jeans are 'out' shouldn’t cause you to throw out your baggy jeans even though you love them," Idealistic-salmon continued. "Trends and the celebrities that endorse them have power because YOU give it to them. Do what you want. You have one life."

Cropped clothes are fine if you're a 5ft5 female as that's the size they're usually designed for in most clothing shops. Try a cropped top on when you're 6ft tall and it's just ridiculous. Also, What's the point of a cropped jumper? If it's cold enough to need the jumper, then you need one that covers your midriff so it can actually do what it's designed for and keep you warm.

We were also lucky enough to get in touch with Certified Image Consultant and Color Specialist, Heather Riggs. Heather is the founder and CEO of Her Style, so we were curious to hear her thoughts on trends that she's not a fan of.

"Everything oversized! Boxy and baggy pieces have the ability to work really well, but not for all women," she told Bored Panda. "I've seen so many people struggling to shop in recent years, because it's hard to find pants that aren't wide-leg or super high-rise and tops that aren't enormous or cropped. It can be tricky to pull off silhouettes like these without getting swallowed up by your clothes."

The guessing game every summer: are those supposed to be shorts, or did she deada$$ forgot to put her pants on?

We also asked the style expert why she thinks these trends become so popular. "It's funny to see people's love/hate reactions to trends like barrel jeans. Typically, trends begin on the runway and then trickle down to the masses. What we need to keep in mind is that designers often create exaggerated shapes and silhouettes to make a statement or create a WOW factor during Fashion Week," Heather explained.

"And of course, the biggest goal for any brand is to encourage consumers to buy more. So it becomes necessary to introduce new ideas that will become adopted by the trendsetters (often those with a more dramatic or creative personal style) and then copied by others who really want to keep their wardrobes feeling current."

On the other hand, there are some trends that Heather is excited to see come back into style. "I'm excited to see the tides turning back to include more streamlined and fitted silhouettes again - like the recent return of skinny jeans! Versatility is key, and I'm glad the idea of what's 'cool' is slowly expanding," she shared. "I love seeing people embrace what looks best on them, regardless of trends and fads."

The expert also provided some advice for anyone who wants to find what they look and feel best in. "First, remember that fashion is cyclical. What's 'out' today might be back 'in' tomorrow," Heather says. "So if your personal preferences go against the grain of what everyone else is wearing, remember it's only temporary. Hold onto the pieces you love, wear them anyway, and give them time to inevitably start trending again."

"Before you start shopping each season, take a pulse on what's currently working for you and where the gaps are in your wardrobe," Heather continued. "Once you're clear on which silhouettes flatter your body, what styles work for your real life needs, and which colors bring out your best, it becomes a million times easier to build a wardrobe you love. I highly recommend shopping with a prioritized list as a way to avoid impulse buying and to ensure you're scooping up what you actually need to get dressed quickly and confidently each day."

I’m a wearer of the quarter hoody and I stand by them 😂 sometimes on those days where it’s hot if you dress covered but too cold if you rug up, and then you put one arm into a hoody and it feels right. That’s how wearing those feel.

Mustaches . The first year I thought was them being ironic, but now I have an entire generation of young men who look like gay men from the '70s.

Woman in a hooded sweatshirt with flame design, kneeling by a chain-link fence, showcasing a fashion trend. I’m a middle school teacher. The 2006-2008 fashion era is “in” with my students.

    I f*****g hate it. I’m not vintage, I’m 29.

I really like the color palette that was used in the '70s (the warm browns, orange yellows and off-white), and I also like bell bottoms on tall people. I also like wide collars. I hate when people call 2004 vintage but, it's 20 years ago. Etsy calls it vintage.

Worn white Crocs on a person’s feet, showcasing a fashion trend some people dislike. Crocs

I thought they were hideous when they first came out almost twenty years ago, and they’ve never gone away.
I am well aware of how comfortable they are. I have several pairs made by Adidas. It’s just that those are much nicer looking.

Person wearing white sneakers and black pants, standing among pink geometric pillars, fashion trends critique context. Im a big sneaker head in my 40's and I can't for the life of me understand how the younger generation loves shoes like asics and balenciaga that look like the shoes PayLess used to sell when I was a kid. Just crazy a*s colors and horrible designs. We would get roasted back in the day for wearing stuff like that. It's almost as if the more non-matching, crazy mis-match stuff you wear now, the "cooler" you are.

The barrel jeans have got to go. They’re the ugliest effing things I’ve ever seen. And ppl keep lying to these women about how they’re flattering and I’m like no! You look bowlegged! .

Middle parts. You need an almost symmetrical face to be able to pull it off, which is pretty rare.

Person wearing a brown shirt and blue jeans, illustrating casual fashion trends. Everything is ‘over-sized’ or ‘loose fit’.

While it is not a look I find esthetic, my teenage self would have loved the option of being hip without being overly sexualized. I think it is nice to have clothes that are comfortable without overly focusing on the size and shape of your body.

Three people in bold, colorful outfits express playful disapproval of various fashion trends. Call me a crotchety millennial but I really don't like "Gen Z fashion".

Maybe it's just my body type but I find low and mid rise jeans much more comfortable than high rise jeans. High rise are not flattering at all and I find them uncomfortable when I'm sitting down (the waistband is too tight around your stomach when you're sat down).
