You are correct! I am studying conservation and overpopulation is a myth perpetuated by eugenicists! It all started with a racist book called the population bomb that talked about how dirty and overpopulated India was the first time he visited (gross). The problem is resources aren't being shared equally so in some areas there's too much and in others there's not enough.

You should look up the book "Plan B". There's a lot about how we can make the planet livable and while less people is a way to help, if the top 10% of impactors/resource users actually balanced for their actions there would be more than enough to go around.

As far as starvation goes we have plenty of food so that that doesn't happen and yet waste sooooo much of it. Large companies especially throwing out packaged, sealed food that isn't even expired being a big issue as opposed to donating it to those in need for example

No, actually, they're not. Eric Crane sounds educated to me. Thirty years ago, my older sister told me she was going to have a 3rd and I asked her why, since she had already replaced herself and her husband. She replied that she was making another working tax payer to compensate for those on welfare. What could I say! BTW all 3 of her grown children are educated & have good jobs.

People are on welfare because of competition for resources and mental health or physicsl health problems. Too dense a population in a small area is what causes illness.

Professionals looking after the elderly is an incredibly recent concept. It used to be done by family, or if there was no family left, friends or the community (often the community was the church congregation). For the elderly who are not infirm and just need some help due to failing strength, eyesight, etc., they could really do without full time care facilities, which are costly even if the staff are criminally underpaid and overworked. (Note: I'm not Christian, so I'm not bemoaning the loss of the church-centered community, just making a historical observation.)

But remember people are living much longer now, too, which affects how infirm they are and amount of care they need, and the aging children. Being 65 looking after 85 year old maman with dementia is no easy thing for many.

in my culture, and most muslim countries, we're expected to look after our parents instead of throwing them into nursing homes. Please stop acting like western culture is the blue print.

Ironically, it's the people your age who are going to suffer from less people being born than the boomers are. The boomers already have Gen X and Millennials. Gen X and younger are going to be the ones hit hardest by any further decline in the population.

Japan, Korea and even China are real life examples. it's already happening :(

The West is going to be even worse because people are so much less healthy overall - my country, Canada, definitely has extremely high levels of cognitive decline in our elderly population. That's a problem because there is no historical blueprint for how society is supposed to deal with elderly people who can't even be left alone. It's only very recently we've even been able to live such long and unhealthy lives. So I would argue that if my parents want me to look after them in their elder years, they have a responsibility to maintain a baseline level of health, at least as much as that's within their control. My parents are now 60 and 62 and Dad goes to the gym 5 days a week. I expect them to age well, but I'll be here if and when they need a hand.

Hope we don't turn into cannibals, lol I believe he or she may of just proving that you could fit EVERYONE in that area and still have remainder of the planet minus water and you still have a whole lot of land left that everyone could disperse to. We in North America use way more resources than the rest of the world. We take a lot for granted. Most in North America couldn't make it in a country like Ethiopia for example. I for one feel blessed to have been born and raised here in US but we easily forget how hard most others have it.
