The r/peopleofwalmart online group has a long and storied history. It was founded more than a decade ago, in mid-March of 2012. Throughout the years, the subreddit has grown to a very impressive 574k+ members.
Now, the community ranks among the top 1% of all groups on Reddit.

According to the team that runs the group, the subreddit is a place where anyone can share their experiences and sightings of interesting people at Walmart. Even though the subreddit is mainly focused on photos, internet users can also write text posts as well. However, these have to be descriptive.
In short, you have to put some effort into all of your posts. The community appreciates it.

Meanwhile, the photos themselves have to meet a certain standard of quality, too. The mod team asks its members to only share sightings that are unique and interesting.
Of course, weirdness might be a tad subjective, but you can get a sense of what’s expected of you when you browse the sub.
On top of that, all of the sightings have to be done in public. The members of the community also have to keep all of their discussions civil and respect one another if they want to continue being a part of r/peopleofwalmart.

Walmart is a huge player in North America. According to CNBC, Walmart is the biggest private employer in the United States, with over 1.6 million workers. In January 2023, the company increased its minimum hourly wage from $12 to $14 in order to stay competitive in the market, as its pay had trailed behind Amazon and Target.

Walmart has topped the Fortune 500 for a whopping 11 years in a row. According to ‘Fortune,’ the company has $611.3 billion in revenue in its most recent fiscal year. Its revenue rose by 6.7%, year over year, which represents a jaw-dropping increase of $38.5 billion.

The company’s digital advertising business, in particular, saw huge growth: last year, it grew to $2.7 billion, as its e-commerce platform continues to expand. On top of that, Walmart is also expanding its healthcare business. However, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. ‘Fortune’ notes that the business agreed to a $3.1 billion settlement related to its pharmacies allegedly overprescribing painkillers.

Load More Replies...the only time I have ever really seen this kind of matter is in people that couldn't move for a long time, they had to stay it meds for like dr orders or a reason, or they just got out of the hospital and haven't had a chance to fix it, I [male} had hair down to my butt when i was younger, I have brittle bones and I'm tall{at the time i was about 7'2, I'm not 7'4 so you can see how brittle bones can be at that tall} and my hair that was to my butt, was matted to my shoulders from being stuck in a bed for about 3-4 months while i was healing from surgery, i could move but i could do more then mve my head back and forth, that movement makes it mat up, and at the end, i was able t o go to stores and stuff and, it took 4 days of it looking a lil worse than this before it was able to take care of, that means school saw it, dr's saw it, stores saw it, and no one bothered me {mainly cause I'm tall and scary and my hair was messedlol} But the point was.... There is normally a reason
Your the first one that doesn't judge right away. I also think there is a reason

Why? What is the point of doing this to your hair? Just cut it short. This has to smell
felting is a crafting technique done with needles to create textures like this! :)
Load More Replies...God dammit BP you've hit the motherload with this one. Look at all the comments! People are losing their s**t and I believe so is she because I think that is an alien centipede that has latched to her bottom and is slowly sucking her dry. She is probably at the pharmacy to get a tripple dose of their strongest antiparisitic meds.
It could be a polish plait, which is an intentional, traditional hairstyle, that can either look like regular dreads, or... this. Something to do with warding off hexes or something.
This is not uncommon, among several cultures. There is a long history of people wearing their hair this way, intentionally, for lots of reasons. I'm surprised that there is such a strong negative xenophobic reaction to this picture, especially among Pandas who are usually appreciative of diverse lives. This hairstyle takes a LOT of work to create, maintain, and style. I've seen it look magical and whimsical, and sometimes even sacred.

Load More Replies...Hair has to be very very dirty to do this… like not being washed, or brushed for that matter, for years. So yeah pretty gross. 🤢
Not in all cases. My sister's hair was very thin and long. She ended up in the hospital and her hair was matting within a week. It was braided down her back so she was lying on it the whole time.
Load More Replies...Probably getting lice shampoo so that she can give all her pet lice a good wash !!! LOL 😂😜😝🤕
How many critters are in there ? I'm not talking bugs, bigger critters
This is revolting! How long did it take to get that way? It has to be heavy and not able to wash your hair. The smell wouldn't be nice either. This is wrong, very wrong.
Hand me my angle grinder with the Number 7 cutter, please. HURRRRRRRRYYYYY!!!!
That is one nasty b***h! Sooooooo unclean!!!!! Shouldn't be allowed in any store, especially around food! Those things coming out of the bottom of that mass are some kind of growth ... NOT hair!!!!!
I don't know what the story is here but we had an elderly Asian lady working at Walmart with hair like this. It grew long enough that it touched the ground and she carried it in a basket when she was out. Someone said she had hairnets in it that her hair kept growing through and she kept putting new nets on because -when you work around food you wear a hairnet. Makes me think when she was younger she may have worked in a kitchen and was told every morning to put on a hairnet.
This is beyond disgusting! I guarantee that they are multiple species of “critters” living in and on this mess!
Disgusting .. the smell must be so offensive let alone the ugly appearance
Wonder what's growing in there. On second thought I don't want to know.
That is absolutely disgusting!!!!!! I bet you it's stuff growing and living in there!!!!!
Is that an alien parasite on the back of their head controlling them?
It's the little feelers trying to put out roots from the bottom that scare me the most ...
Well she is at the pharmacy counter so maybe she's filling a prescription for whatever ails her.
Eeeuuggh! Looks like a hairy centipede - wonder when it was last washed 🤯
This looks like sloth fur. Note: Sloth fur is considered a micro-ecosystem and is full of moss and various bugs.
It looks like it is trying to put down roots, but she doesn't stay still for long enough for them to take,.
I would not stand close to that. What are those things growing from the bottom?
It looks like an alien parasite attached to her spine and controlling her body. And I bet it smells bad.
I'm disappointed in the rampant pre judging and ignorant criticism people have responded with.

Lady Praying For A Guy To Be Able To Walk Again
This is so damn insulting. How f*****g rude and stupid. No amount of prayer is gonna get that guy back on his feet.
Reuters recently reported that Walmart is changing how its hourly starting wage structure works for entry-level store employees. This is done in order to reduce costs in a slowing job market.
What this essentially means is that store workers, including cashiers, personal shoppers, stockers, self-checkout helpers, and associates manning departments such as sporting goods or electronics will all receive the same hourly starting wages that are paid at the store.

Meanwhile, Walmart spokesperson Anne Hatfield told Reuters that deli, auto center, and bakery workers will continue to receive higher starting wages because their roles are higher-skilled. For others who are joining the company just now in other roles, however, this means that they’ll be receiving less money for their efforts than three months ago.

Woman With Walmart Tattoo Seen On A Flight
I hope she got paid for advertising. Unfortunately that's probably not the case. Just why, random lady? WHY?
Is It That Serious?
Reuters notes that Walmart pays its employees different starting wages depending on where the store is based. “For example, workers in the Northeast start at higher rates compared to the Midwest,” the news agency notes. Hatfield said that the new wage structure will not change Walmart’s minimum hourly wage, which currently stands at $14. Nor, the spokesperson said, will this result in pay cuts for existing employees.

I never see weird people at my Walmart. Wait...am I the weird person?
Come to a flordia Walmart. I have seen barefoot people, people wearing clothes they shouldn't, and so many Karens lol. Just some extra entertainment while shopping 🛍 😌
Load More Replies...Unfortunately the people of walmart have started trying new stores. At the department store I work at, we had a gentleman who came in and walked around with a large parrot on his shoulder. We are definitely not walmart!
I think I am a person of Walmart. Aussie’s don’t always wear shoes and I took my pet rabbit into KMart because he’d been to the vet, I needed to buy him a mat and I didn’t want to leave him in the car. Next I’ll be wearing hot pants
A friend of mine made it to the "front page" (or whatever you'd call it) of POW sometime around 2008-ish for bringing his boa constrictor to a Walmart in San Diego. It still comes up in conversation even tho he passed away a few years ago. For context: there was a reptile convention going on and he didn't want to leave her in the car. I can fully understand how he ended up on the page though. Very tall guy with a huge snake around his shoulders is definitely not something you see every day.
I live in Oregon and the stores are so dull. Everyone is dressed properly. No strange things happen. The animals I see there are just dogs. It's just like any other store.
People are weird everywhere. Walmart isn't really any different than any other store.
Wow. Just when I thought my eyes could not bug out any further or my jaw drop any lower, I go to the next picture
For the longest time, the Walmart where I live was the feature image on this website. It was referred to as Ghetto Walmart before it was turned into a Walmart Superstore. I miss it.
a) Does America have any stores other than Walmart? b) Do any other countries have this sort of thing? Walmart own Asda in the UK, but we don't see this sort of thing - and we don't take pictures of all of it.
Walmart sold Asda off 3 years ago - it's now owned by the Issa brothers. I would say the most likely shops for strangeness in the UK would be Farm Foods, Heron, Lidl or Aldi but certainly not close to these examples from Walmart.
Load More Replies...What is it about Walmart that attracts eccentric people, why do they all shop there rather than other stores?
