Jimmy Kimmel Asks People If Homo Sapiens Should Be Saved, And The Answers Show The Level Of Stupidity
One of the biggest disappointments in life is when you grow up and realize that adults are much less impressive than you imagined as a child. I used to think that grown-ups know exactly what they were doing, they were smart and capable and knew how to run the world in such a way that we can all benefit and live our best lives.
Boy, was I wrong. Many adults, having finished school, get sucked into routines of work and family, joining the rat race to survive and keep their lives ticking over. Much of what was learned at school is quickly forgotten, and continuing education is replaced by entertainment because well, it requires less effort. The result is a lot of adults that know less about basic math, science and history than your average 12-year-old.
Jimmy Kimmel recently took to the streets to find out what people thought about the current plight of the Homo Sapiens, and whether they (we) as a species really deserve to be saved. You have to take these videos with a pinch of salt because really, who knows the context? They could’ve been out for days, interviewing thousands of people to get these select few, catastrophic fails. Something tells me, however, given the current state of education in America, that this wasn’t quite the case.
Fair enough, if you don’t know, you don’t know. But there’s something about the tendency of people to lie and bluff their way through that is particularly infuriating. These people lack curiosity and are too proud to ask for information, so they simply try to ‘fake it till they make it.’ This prevailing attitude toward knowledge has become dangerously common, and goes some way to explaining why America ranks so low on current intelligence and education tables. Not to mention the ultimate example of a charlatan, who bluffed his way to the very top and was elected as President.
What do you think? Are Homo Sapiens worth saving, or are we really just completely doomed? One of the respondents summed up our predicament with an accidental piece of revealingly insightful commentary: “I don’t know what a homo sapien is. If they’re going extinct, that’s very sad. But at the end of the day, I don’t care.” At she was honest!

If you don’t know what Homo sapiens are, then surely you lack much more knowledge. How is it possible to be that old and never hear of it? Are they living under a rock? Just the other day someone born and raised in the U.S asked me if she needed a passport to go to Las Vegas. I won’t be over that one for a very long time.

On a train going from Amsterdam to Copenhagen (many years before the Schengen agreement). After an hour or two we come to the border with Germany and porder police come aboard to check the passports. The middle aged American gentleman who was travelling in the same compartment was flabbergasted and asked if Europeans also needed to have special permits to be able to leave their home towns.

Poor rip-off of Rick Mercer's "Talking to Americans". Mercer got a professor at Columbia University to sign a petition to discourage the Canadian government from abandoning our elderly on ice floes, a Harvard Professor thought the Saskatchewan seal hunt was "bad", and a Princeton Political Economy student to congratulate Prime Minister "Horton" on his Double Double. And just like this story, he didn't just get people agreeing with his ridiculous statements (including Mike Huckabee and George W. Bush), but he got them talking at length about their experiences in nonsensical situations. Google it if you want a good laugh, followed by that feeling of terror that comes when you realize just how stupid “educated” people can be.

That raises the question how many people were actually interviewed. As much as I wish you were right, from my experience, they only ask very few people in such direct interviews because it requires so much effort.

Maybe they had a moment of “oh f**k” because they were put on the spot? Hopefully that’s it. I know when I was in 7th grade I took part in a thesis project my teacher was conducting about how kids react to testing. She would ask me questions and I has so much time to answer them before she moved on. Her first question was “What country do we live in” and I FROZE. I had no clue… After moving on and a few more questions…. when I got into the rhythm I was able to tell her the answer and tell her I felt extremely stupid… but she assured me that was the whole point of the project and that it was actually very common for people to not know the clearly obvious answer to an easy questions when being put on the spot. It’s like their brain takes a break for a bit.

In my stupid conutry Serbia, in my hometown, green areas and parks are routinely replaced with concrete and shopping malls, and of course, stupid parking lots. Also trees are cut even in nearby national park, and most of it is gone. We are suffoccating, trash is everywhere, we polluted and desrtoyed everything, but still, there are a lot of really stupid and ignorant homo sapiens who think the worst problem in the city are people who have dogs because "dogs c**p everywhere", also they think concrete and stupid malls are great way to get rid off stray cats and dogs who are completely cute and harmless because they you know, have to poop somewhere, poor things, and eat of garbage. And those homo sapiens think THAT's our biggest issue. And of course, lack of parking spaces. So, I would let all such ignorant homo sapiens go extinct, because they deseve it. Long live cats and dogs! I prefer anything they leave behind compared to human garbage, toxins and plastic.

In tenth grade (1968), we were assigned an essay about what would be the best way to save the planet. It was supposed to be a two-page essay. I wrote something short and sweet to the effect of, "eliminate people." My teacher was very upset, thought i was too lazy to do the assignment. To this day, I maintain, that was all that needed to be said. This story, 51 years later, proves i was, sadly, right.

Just remember this: Jimmy Kimmel appeals to an audience of people who are ignorant and easy to mislead. I wouldn't give him the time of day and as sad as this is, these morons are not the majority. There are a lot of us out there who would have just breezed past Mr. Kimmel without responding even though we know what homo sapiens are. The entire country is not full of idiots, but there are a lot of them. Mr. Kimmel entertains them regularly.

Before some of you get up to ranting about "anti-American" can you please give another example of a country that is letting schools teach that creationism is on equal footing with evolution! That aside, of course I am aware that a number of the best universities in the world are in the US, to a large degree staffed with scientists form other countries. Money is what makes that possible.

I guess it's like as always in TV: the dumbest ones are picked out. - The comments here are showing that there are so many intelligent people in the US. I don't like stereotypes like "Americans are dumb and think they're the center of the world" as less as "Germans are nazis". Both is wrong.
