Finding suitable childcare can be a real challenge for many parents. Especially when so many Americans don’t hide their suspicion towards their nannies; The Zebra survey has revealed that 4 in 5 Americans would record a nanny or pet sitter inside their home (79%).
Ongoing prejudice against babysitters, and the constant pressure so many parents put on them, all while navigating being a carer, a friend, a family member, and an employee at once is what makes babysitting probably one of the most demanding jobs out there.
But entitled parents make it way worse. Collected from the "Choosing Beggars" Reddit community, below are some of the worst nanny job offers posted online. From totally delusional requirements to offering $3/h for an experienced nanny with higher education, these posts scream only two things: “Run!” and “Now!”

Anyone Who Has Worked In Childcare Knows She Hit Babysitter Bingo
As I say if you can't afford or won't pay a sitter a proper rate then stay at home and look after your own kids
Absolute Human Vermin
Finding a babysitter for the very first time is a responsible moment mixed with nervous anticipation and excitement. After all, it’s the person you will be entrusting your child to. And while grandparents, friends and relatives seem like the perfect babysitters for some, in reality, welcoming a stranger to your family is a much more viable option for everyone.
But the challenge is not entrusting your child to the hand of a person you don’t really know but feel good about; the challenge is to find a good one and when you do, keep it in your family. However, many parents often commit babysitting sins, making the job a living nightmare for the nannies.

This Is Not A Babysitting Job
Little things count. Inviting neighborhood kids without adding extra pay, or being late without warning and not offering any monetary compensation are among common faux pas. Some parents even seek to pay their nannies with goods and/or food rather than money. Being clear about payment from the very first day, whether it’s the transfer date or the exact sum of money, is crucial in order not to make it awkward well into the job.

Parents Get Mad At Woman After She Asks $35/Hour To Babysit Their 3 Children
Communication is key and not every babysitter can immediately pick up what you want them to do for their child. Guessing games usually don’t lead anywhere, so the first days should be spent together introducing your lifestyle, family habits, things the kid likes or doesn’t, as well as showing them around the house. Making sure you’re clear about routines and expectations will make their job easier and your mind clear.
But experts say communication should not stop at the introduction week. Maintaining a good, healthy bond with your babysitter is key, even if that means remodeling some things that don’t work. For example, if a late return is going to put your babysitter in a difficult position with public transport, then it’s worth thinking how you can help—whether by paying for a taxi, or offering to drive them home.

Crazy Mom On Facebook Only Wants To Pay $300 A Month For Full Time Baby Sitter
Playing the “I’m in the military” card seems to be very common in the US. Why do you worship the armed services so much (& why do some clearly have no problem taking advantage of the same?). Strange.
I come from a military family in the US. We do NOT worship them. My family is appalled by this crap, and dislikes the whole idea of "military are entitled". No, we do not serve our nation to be treated like we're special... I cannot speak for others, but this is not okay behavior with a LOT of people, including those in the military.
Load More Replies...How does a "Very independent 5-months old" looks like? Makes their own bottles? Changes their own diapers? Wants so be left alone and watch TV the whole day?
If the baby is so independent she doesn't need a sitter. She can feed herself, bathe herself and change her own diapers
I learned above somewhere that the military actually has free babysit services if you just fill out a couple forms.. ?
It's at limited bases from what I've seen, if there's a need for it and if enough wives/family volunteer for the program. And yes, they have you fill out forms to cover everyone's a**. Most bases do have regular daycare, but that's like 0600-1800 maybe, and you pay according to you and/your spouse's rank.
Load More Replies...I mean who wouldn't want to babysit a 5 month old for just over a dollar a day For just a dollar a day...*cues up Angel by Sarah McLachlan* you too can babysit my 5 month old *tear*
Even in that case it would still be waaay too low an offer.
Load More Replies...I thought it was 250-300 for the week and I thought that was really low...but it is for the month!?!?!? Oh hell no!!!
THis is all just so weird. When I was a single mom, we hired a nanny for $14 and hour - I made $11 and hour. Would have been cheaper for me to stay home. But, I liked working and the kids loved her and $14 helped her so we did it (also my job had benefits so it worked out...)
so lets say its $300 per month... that's crazy already. but lets break it down. 9hr days, mostly like 5 days a week. that's $1.60/hr or $14.40/day or $72/week, this is bad, this is by far the worst one. I'd be seriously worried if someone actually said yes to this.
Wait what? At my last job I had to take potatoes from a production line which were not peeled properly by the machine, sometimes cut them and sometimes sort according to size. Whatever had been ordered. I worked only two days a week, hours varien depending on the amount of orders. The job was not the best, but the pay ranged from 128 - 250 € before taxes a month. For two days a week, one day starting at 8am, the other 10 am and maximum til 3pm because I had to get back and take my kids home from daycare. It's late and I can't do math right now, but it's still a better pay, isn't it?
"Must be available at all times, so you can't have another job, but I won't pay you enough to live on" seems to be the general theme of this thread.
I mean you can "puppy-sit" the dog for that much but not for a baby and a dog
I guess that would require a lot of negotiating the pay as their starting bit is hopfully just there to establish a low anker to pull the final price down.

Babysitter Choosing Beggars; People Should Just Babysit For Free!!
WTF is wrong with people? Reading this actually made me feel sick. Kids are a lifestyle choice, if you can't afford to look after them properly, don't have them!
I don't understand why are all these people parents? Or are they just cheap. If I can't afford a decent sitter or daycare while working, then I shouldn't have had 3-4 kids
If you haven't the time, money or willing to give up your life style make sacrifices for your baby, DON'T HAVE ONE. they are not a fad.

In the UK a baby sitter is generally someone who comes at night for a couple of hours whilst you go for dinner or to the cinema! Most of these look more like nanny jobs!
I dunno. When I was looking for daycare you paid what they asked not the other way around.
Make no mistake about it, these people can afford to pay decently. They just don't want to.
I don't understand: what's with Bachelor's degree have to do with baby sitting? It's baby sitting, which I've done in high school (and I know many have and still are doing). Are they looking for a babysitter or a nanny, who actually went to a school who took nanny training? If so, they should contact a nanny agency. It's so pretentious of them to ask for someone with a college degree to babysit. And for the price they're offering, is a total insult.
Geez, I have met these people before. The won't loan me a 9-iron golf club but they'd give me their kids in a minute! Guess no one thinks of what happens in life AFTER a kid is born. And I quit dating divorced men who had custody of the kids every other week -- thinking that me as their girlfriend would sit with them for free, or worse, watch after them when we are supposed to be on a "date." Why don't these people put the kids in military school 'til they are 16 and give everyone else a break!
Why would you leave your kids with anyone willing to work for a buck an hour?
Okay I have one from when I was a teen: my mom said someone asked me to babysit their four kids for a few hours while they went to a funeral, and although I hated babysitting I wanted money so I said okay. I was wondering out loud how much I should charge for four kids, since I normally only dealt with 1-2. My mom went crazy, saying that I shouldn't be charging at all because they were going to a FUNERAL. Still can't figure out if I was the asshole for wanting to get paid...
No you were not the asshole. You should have gotten paid.
Load More Replies...I admit that I had a little sticker shock, but since most are full time plus hours, babysitters aren't being unreasonable. I haven't babysat for over 20 years, and I had not looked into going rates, so I'm kinda glad I came across this so I didn't offer something ridiculously low. I mean, do these people realize that they are demanding full grown adults accept rates that wouldn't cover a car and insurance that they require, let alone the mountains of student debt from the degree they inexplicably think is necessary? And I am in no means downplaying the value of childcare or college degrees, both take tremendous hard work and dedication; but these people are asking for a much more casual babysitter to do formal daycare, preschool, driver, cook, housekeeper and personal assistant, for ridiculous amount of time, and often on ridiculous schedules that preclude working for living wage or attending college. Says a lot about how stay at home parents are undervalued, even by themselves.
Imagine getting paid $3/hr to watch someone's kids so they can have a night off and spend $120 in less than 2hrs by treating themselves to a nice dinner with wine...
This is so ridiculous... Babysitting is a job and should be rewarded accordingly. We occasionally hire a babysitter for our eight year old, and she helped us out many times during the covid school closures. She was often available at that time because she had only online classes too and couldn't work her usual student job in a restaurant. She's a 19 year old student and we pay her 8 euros per hour cash in hand, and an extra bonus when we asked her to do school assignments with our daughter. That's a decent pay in my country for someone her age. And she was a lifesaver when the schools were closed. This babysitter always likes to come when we ask her and she's available, and my daughter is also very enthusiastic about her. When you treat a babysitter right and pay her decent, she does the job with pleasure and that's also beneficial for your child. If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. And if you forget good manners, you should not be surprised if nobody wants to babysit for you anymore.
The parents want care givers to be more dedicated to the children than they are.
These people are essentially looking for an old school maid... slave maid? With a degree and has medical skills? I don't know what world they grew up in, but at those rates, good lucking getting even students to bite.
This entire article is the most convincing argument I have seen yet for universal daycare. Some parents really are struggling to pay for daycare or after school care and need the financial relief. (It's expensive, man.) The children of THESE parents and any other parents like them need to be in the care of qualified caregivers who are paid commensurate to their skills and education. Instead of those kids being fobbed off onto some poor overworked, under appreciated woman who is treated little better than a slave and paid at just about that level.
Some of these parents probably get help from the Government to help with food etc. They want something handed to them . I understand a single parent sometimes needs a sitter , but , some of these people are just leeches. If you can't afford to heat the castle, don't buy the castle-same goes for kids-don't have them if you can't afford them. Some of these parents have low paying jobs but want a sitter with degrees .
I disagree with what you just said. I find it amusing that entitled parents who can afford to pay more act like you should be happy with the small amount they are willing to pay and are confused when someone tells them no about the conditions they want you to work under, then think you should be grateful that they want to possibly hire you!! They like to treat us like we are the “little people “! Most people who are on the poorer side of the spectrum don’t act this way!! So to assume it is someone who is poor and taking advantage of the system tells a lot about you and your priorities! Shame on you!!

And it's so annoying when people try to get sympathy/empathy because they made the decision to push out a brat or two or more. It's unfortunate that anyone could get sucked in to these ridiculous posts and actually settle for such a small pay. These posts sound so demanding and borderline abusive, so I wouldn't be surprised that whoever works for them will get that kind of treatment. People are just disgusting some times.
This is a part of problem - it is JOB people, job that many women do for free too long.
some of these are truly “entitled,” but a few are people on minimum wage unable to pay minimum wage themselves.
So what? They CHOSE to have children that they can't support. Now they want someone to raise their kids for free? I don't think so.
