I Made A Paper Carpet Installation That Invites You To Step In And Slow Down
I am a visual artist interested in paper as my primary medium. Pushing the limits of this easily accessible material is what motivates me. This latest paper carpets installation was made for Sydney Contemporary art fair 2015. The idea was to make work that draws audiences in and rewards close attention.
The phrase “love it” was embedded in the mosaic to open up a conversation that goes beyond adjectives. This work is rich in texture, shadows and visual energy that slows the eye down, encouraging the mind to linger and think about the work in front of it rather than instantly declare an adjective and swipe for next. The process involved hand drawing the 2mts * 3mts large work, cutting thousands of paper strips and curling them individually to create this paper tapestry.
