On Monday Morning, We Arrived At Work To Find A Fire-Breathing Dragon Built With 1200 Paper Sheets

It’d be fair to say that most people dread that Monday morning trudge into the office. However, in our offices at Viking Direct, we recently arrived on one seemingly normal Monday to find a special guest lying in wait… a 13-metre long paper dragon.

With the new series of Game of Thrones on the way, our bosses decided it was time to do something special, so they brought a taste of Westeros to the office. They were hoping to get our creative juices flowing and inspire some conversation, it certainly did that. As we walked through the doors at 9am, bleary-eyed from the weekend, a few of us had to pinch ourselves. You certainly don’t expect to see this in the office on a Monday morning…

The dragon was built by artist Andy Singleton, he used the equivalent of 1,200 pieces of A4 paper and took around ten days to put it together.

Starting with a simple brief – build a life-size, freestanding, paper dragon. Andy started with some basic sketches before building a small-scale sculpture.

The dragon took ten days of work to put together, with every element individually hand-crafted. Andy built a wooden structure to hold up the 12.95 metre by 2.8 metre beast.

As soon as it was complete, the dragon was shipped off to Viking HQ in parts, ready to be assembled. The assembly took ten hours and was done over the weekend, keeping it secret from our team.

Once the doors open and our team slowly filtered in to kick off the week, it wasn’t long before a crowd had gathered. It was one of the most sociable Monday mornings we’ve ever had at work, as the team inspected our new office mate.

The team who were behind the stunt managed to film the whole process, and even left the cameras rolling to catch our reactions as we arrived in work.

It's wonderful that people can do this sort of stuff for a living. What a great way to go through life. There's more out there than what your b******t career-day at school would have you believe.
