Answer: that’s a broken megalodon tooth.
The ‘What is This Thing’ subreddit is very large: more than 1,170,300 people (and counting) are part of this community. Which just goes to show just how many people are drawn in by a desire to figure out modern mysteries about vintage things. Or how many Sherlock Holmes and Castle enthusiasts actually prowl the streets at night, looking for cases to solve. You never know, your own neighbor could be one of these everyday heroes, helping others figure out answers to questions that won’t let them sleep at night.

Some of you might be thinking that my talks about mom-and-pop internet detectives are a bit far-fetched. But, the interesting fact is, that there are plenty of amateurs who have solved major mysteries! For example, BBC Future writes how Carl Koppelman got fired from his job at Disney and became a detective in his spare time.

To think that, that person had been using it as a kettle for years...
Koppelman is now the moderator of “The Unidentified” subforum on the Websleuths website and holds himself personally responsible for solving three mysteries. He matched three unidentified people in coroners’ reports with their missing person profiles. Among them is Lynda Jane Hart, whose remains were found in 1988, but identified only in 2011. If Koppelman can do this in his spare time, imagine what other mysteries we could solve if we joined forces!

In A Multi Storey Car Park. Is It A Passage For Rats? There Are Also Small Holes In The Floor And Ceiling With A Tiny Ladder Connecting Them
Answer: Secret Industry by John Pym: The stairwells and lift lobbies of multistorey car parks are not usually areas where people pause to admire the architecture, so John Pym used this to his advantage. The model walkways and ladders replicate their full-scale counterparts and are a playful way of suggesting an alternative, unseen service industry at work within the building. Superficially mundane, some people may use the car park for years without being aware of their presence, while others will notice straightaway. The artist sees it as a reward for those who look more closely at their surroundings.

Load More Replies...Chances are, if you go to the neighbor and express an interest, they will be happy to explain all the symbols and meanings.
Some of y'all should research the various vodun religious practices, they're not all heathens making voodoo dolls and cursing people. The film industry created that stereotype.
That is exactly how I decorate my virtual home. Rule #1: everything goes as long as I have it. Rule #2: put them down as symmetric as possible. Guess someone take that approach to real life.
We are afraid of death, all joking aside in my other post. We wear black and I think this is actually is kind of cheerful. I am a big fan of the Dia de Los Meurtos colors and art and the celebration of life that death does not take from us left alone or mourning forever. It is respecting the living and life we have and honoring the life that those we lose, shared with everyone they touched.
That's a voodoo alter! From what I can tell (it's a bit blurry) I think the loa in the middle is Baron Samedi. It looks too like they give him offerings at the statue.
No, it's a Haitian Vodou altar/shrine to Baron Samedi, Lord of life and death.
Load More Replies...Looks to be American Voodoo, rather than Haitian VouDou, or West African VooDoo.

That is really too creepy. I would wunder or maybe enquire. What about the kids playground in the backdrop.
Being as how it is an alter for witchcraft, I wouldn't p**s off the neighbor if I were you. All types of the craft are dangerous when used against you.... Get a Pentacle of protection for yourself. Although, not ALL witches are bad!
best make sure she gets cookies during the holidays and invites to all the BBQ's/block parties!
You my friend may need a priest, and some bibles and live in a church
What is it? It is a very sick neighbor, I would be looking elsewhere to live!

These were (sometimes are) typically found in fraternity houses with very traditional practices. Boozing is part of the rules, and you essentially drink until you puke, as everone drinks at the same time. After puking, you return to drink further. Sounds ridiculous and out-of-the-time, but these organizations sometimes even sustain the tradition of fencing without protection for the face...

What Is This Weird Half Truck And Why Is It Pushing A Flatbed Trailer? Is There Any Sort Of Advantage Of Pushing Rather Than Pulling It?
Answer: Float Plane Mover. This truck's job is to move planes up and down a boat ramp into the water. Backing up an ordinary truck+trailer combo down a boat ramp is not easy. With this vehicle, the driver can look straight forward down the ramp rather than in his rear-view mirror, and since the steering wheels are at the back it's easy to align the truck's bed with the plane. Most trucks only load at a boat ramp once in a while, since this one does only that, it makes sense to design it specifically for that job.

This characteristic separates it from the weakfish and the king fish.

Empty Gel Container In A Sealed Coca-Cola Bottle. What Is This Thing?
Go on reddit where these all came from and you can see them daily.
Load More Replies...Great post! Never knew my German neighbors had a specialized "urinal"for puking!
I only got 40! I thought they would stop cutting posts
Load More Replies...I see so many people find bombs and bullets. Reminds me of warnings about vacant landmines, remnants from the wars (both in Croatia and Korea). It's good that they shared the pictures with us, since it's pretty informative, but I hope they kept their safe distance and called the professionals to dispose of these things. These are no joke.
How does this stuff need a journalist to "write" it? It's just stolen copy-paste from Reddit.
I remember when I was really young, like 5 or 6my Grandad found a penny and an old pocket watch while digging in the back garden one day. I asked him how it got there and he said it all used to be open country decades ago and someone probably dropped it while riding. Not sure if that’s true but it was a great story. My Mum still has the watch :)
Meanwhile , I'm still wondering what the hell is the 41st item was, in the Intro Link that sent me here.
What is this reddit thing (totally showing my technology/Internet ignorance here)? I've seen things about it on BP before and always wondered what it was
It's a message board community with every kind of sub-board (specializing in all manner of topics) you can find. I go there infrequently but find it utterly fascinating.
Load More Replies...I had something I kept since around the age of 6 until I finally got rid of around age 39. It was a thing shaped like the INSIDE of a pipe, made of yellowish/orange compacted sand. Found near the waterworks. Never could figure out how it got there. Did pipes fill with sand, then the pipes disintegrated? But wouldn't the sand go first? And what compacted the sand? And it wasn't near a beach where there was sand, just found near a fake creek filled with lime runoff. I got rid of it before I thought of posting it online :-( Kept it for over 40 years, then dumped it :-(
Correction: "finally got rid of around age 49", not 39!
