When a young man in Tuscon, Arizona saw a ”free puppy’ sign on a house, he knocked on the door, and immediately fell in love with an amber eyed puppy he found. But soon after the man took Neon the dog home, he started to get a strange feeling about the pooch – like he wasn’t what he seemed.
”You know that isn’t a dog, right?” this is what the owner heard when Neon was taken to the Wolf Connection shelter. This was right after Neon’s behaviour became too much to bear. Neon would dig out or jump the fence to play with the neighbors’ dogs, and would always find ways to escape. The pooch wasn’t interested in treats (very unusual for a dog), or interacting with humans (apart from his owner). The only thing he seemed to care about was other dogs and finding his pack.
And that’s a typical wolf behaviour – Neon turned out to be what’s considered a “high content” wolf dog. The pooch not only had the physical markings of a wolf — amber eyes and coarse coat, he also displayed behavior of a wolf who is simply not adapted to live the life of a domesticated dog. The owner realized that and gracefully agreed for Neon to be taken to a special wolf dog sanctuary, where he found happiness and the pack he longed for!
He befriended the alpha female wolf dog Maya and is enjoying howling with the other wolves. The importance of finding your tribe…

Share on Facebookwe had a half-wolf/half husky dog who loved us all, was very friendly, and respected her position at the bottom of her human pack. A baby could take food out of her dish while she was eating, and she would allow it, but if another dog came near, she would lift only the portion of her lip that showed her extra-long wolf canine tooth, and that would be enough. Aggressive dogs would approach her antagonistically, and all she would do would be lift that lip, and they'd immediately back down. She had a nice doghouse, but dug her own den right beside the septic tank. Would swim in the cold river for hours. Always came when called. Loved us and other people. Could never get used to riding in a car though. Would get sick every time.
You'd have to have lived under a rock to not know that was almost a purebred wolf. Beautiful animal.
I hope this pup was a result of an unplanned encounter - otherwise shame the breeder. Lucky that the young man realised something didn't add up. At least now Neon can be what he is.
I absolutely agree with you. Poor Neon, looking for his pack. I don't know why, I just can't stop laughing at "unplanned encounter". I can just imagine the dog and wolf meeting in the woods and having a torrid one time affair
