Many of us have experienced the desire to present ourselves in a more favorable light to our significant others, bosses, and friends. It's natural, and there's no harm in it. Human pride can be a powerful motivator, leading us to act or speak in ways that may not truly reflect who we are. Some of these moments have been captured on the subreddit 'Not Like the Other Girls' in some funny and entertaining posts.
The subreddit has a thriving community of 860k members who share posts where people attempted to appear cool but came across as cringy. We've gathered a collection of our favorite ones so without further ado, let's dive into this cringe-fest and have a sneaky chuckle. Don't forget to upvote the ones that brought you the most laughter.

Been Seeing This Woman's Tweets A Lot
At times, we tend to think of ourselves as smarter, funnier, kinder, and paradoxically, even more modest than we truly are. This is called the Dunning-Kruger effect. But in psychology is it known as the Superiority Illusion.

This Probably Doesn't Fit Here But
In 1995, McArthur Wheeler robbed two banks in Pittsburgh in broad daylight wearing no mask. He was identified from security cameras. When police asked him about it, he said he rubbed lemon juice on his face. It supposedly should have worked as an invisible ink. He tested it before the robbery by putting juice on his face and then taking a Polaroid picture - it showed no face. Let's just say this man is as good at robbery as photography.

She’s Got Like 6 Days To Eat All Of That
A few psychologists, Justin Kruger and David Dunning, were so intrigued by McArthur Wheeler's funny robbery story that they held a social experiment with psychology undergraduate students. They performed problem-solving tests using logic, analysis of grammar, and assessment of whether jokes were funny. Surprisingly, the results revealed that those who scored the lowest overestimated their performance. In their research paper, Dunning and Kruger wrote that "…people who are unskilled in these domains suffer a dual burden: Not only do these people reach erroneous conclusions and make unfortunate choices, but their incompetence robs them of the metacognitive ability to realize it." The phenomenon subsequently became known as the Dunning–Kruger effect, sometimes called ‘the unskilled and unaware effect.’
It is also interesting that the Dunning-Kruger effect involves smart people underestimating themselves.

Okay Then Make Friends With Girls Who Want To Do This???
Me too, but then again I have girlfriends who would all rather do this so that solves that problem, but I also have girlfriends who would rather get their nails done which is fine and they can show me after or maybe I will go with them just for shits 'n giggles, who knows? It's like we're people.

Unfortunately, the Dunning-Kruger effect is part of being human. The good news for us is that it can be remediable. "Paradoxically, improving the skills of the participants, and thus increasing their metacognitive competence, helped them recognize the limitations of their abilities," Dunning and Kruger wrote in their paper.

Perceiving yourself to be better than you are is also linked to optimism. It is considered by many to be one of the most desirable traits to have. We just don't want that negativity. However, according to Leuven University’s Vera Hoorens and colleagues, it can come at a price: "It may make you look naïve, and you may be in for disappointment when your sunny predictions fail to materialize."
Someone Actually Made This List On Twt
"Twists and manipulate God's word" ah ah first of all those who manipulate and twist the Bible are Christians themselves. Bending what's written to adhere to their vision of the world, changing translations and "forgetting" about the rules they don't care about. Secondly "Preaches on church", uh? Who preaches in church? Preachers, priests. What feminist goes to a church and preaches? And finally, the Christians section looks awful.
Mathew 7 21-23 Not everyone that says they’re a Christian actually is.
Load More Replies...I was already aghast at "be independent". Then I read "dress how you want" and got the vapors. Had to be taken out on the veranda for some fresh air.
Promoting Christianity and stating that non-Christian, feminist women are basically loud-mouthed, unruly, free-willed, abortion-seeking wh*res. For what it's worth, the girl who wrote this is probably 12 and has no life experience yet.
Load More Replies...how does "bear children" and "multiply" go with "sexual purity"? Immaculate conception?
No, no. Christian women "SAVE THEMSELVES" for their "PERFECT MATCH" that God chooses for them. They submit to the glorious, dominant male that God chose to be their master and the father of their children. You don't get to have ANY sex until you marry the man that God picked out for you. THEN you have to have as much sex as your master/husband wants, as HE is the one who makes all those decisions and HE has NEEDS. Then, your entire purpose as a wife is to be fruitful and multiply and produce and raise as many brainwashed God-licking little sycophants as possible. EDIT for any Christians who want to challenge my comment: I'm adopted and my family is Mexican and extremely religious. I know very, very well what fanatical Christianity is ACTUALLY like, thank you.
Load More Replies...I am a Christian and a feminist. You can be both. The Christian side has a lot good common sense, and some stereotypes. This is why it’s important to understand scripture so it’s not weaponized against you. Yes there is a hierarchy with the man. But the way I understand this is like Jewish tradition of the first born having more responsibility, not being better than. (Correct me if you’re Jewish and I’m wrong). Women helped in Jesus’s ministry, traveled along with their husbands and taught. God is a gentleman and gives everyone the choice to follow Him & His rules. Everyone has free will. I made the choice to follow Him because He is love itself. When you have a relationship you get to know Him and there’s no turning back. I have never been silenced in church or treated like a second class citizen. A lot of these rules are to keep us safe. How many women have a “subway shirt” to prevent unwanted attention? Proverbs 31 is my standard for my role as a Christian woman. Being dependent on Gods will has never steered me wrong. Edited bc I wrote psalm 31 instead of proverbs
It’s posts like this that give Christians a bad rep. I swear most of us aren’t that bad. Some of us are weird I’m not gonna lie but it makes us all sound awful. I promise Christians aren’t that bad. (The ones who know what they’re talking about, at least)
BP users don't care about that. They hate religion and think religious people are just delusional idiots. Plenty of other posts that would verify this without the need for much effort in searching them out.
Load More Replies...As a Christian, stop judging other 😢 it literally says in the bible to not judge others bc you have your own problems ( I'm pretty sure it's in Mathew)
Lady - the 'god' you know keeps you and your daughters in bondage to your church's expectations, not god's true will, which is LOVE, not judgement. Pay attention to what Jesus did in the gospels. Love is there for you too. Please look into the plank in your eye before you criticize and try to 'change' others who are on their own path.
as a christian i can say the right side column fits more to the amish view, not christian
Me who’s a Christian and prepares for college and careers, is loud/outspoken, dresses how I want, is single, and will most likely use birth control in the future: 🧍♀️
I think they put "twists & manipulates god's word" in the wrong column
As someone who considers herself a feminist Christian- AHHHHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHHHHHHH
Neither of these are good descriptions. Not all Christian girls have to be silent and obediently
How exactly do you put "fruitful and multiplies" and "pursues sexual purity" RIGHT next to each other?
Unless the non-feminist follows every little archaic rule in the Old Testament, then she too is manipulating & twisting "god's word."
I don't take blood-pressure meds, but after reading a couple of lines of the right-hand column, I'm gonna go see if the old guy next door has some spare.
Aren't we past putting labels on people and trying to make them leap to impossible standards 😫👍
Idk, "twisting and manipulating God's words" is something I've almost exclusively seen Christians do, up to this day...
As soon as a saw noone I stoped reading and looked for more mistakes. Any one else?
I wish there was a column named: "And now for something completely different".

Load More Replies...I love how it says "marry, bear children" and then right underneath it says "pursue sexual purity" like bro, pick a side. Should we be virgins or not?!
Sexual purity likely alludes to not being a whore..
Load More Replies...The preaching in church part is a reach lol Most feminists are atheists for a reason.
The Bible demands wifes submit to their husband as the husband submits to God. In context, the implications are much worse.
Bro this makes Christians sound way different and submissive than they actually are. It’s stereotypes like this that give Christians a bad rep. I promise you we’re not all bad.
proud feminist over here. "submits to husband" hell no honey :) and ill dress however tf i want and be single as long as i want. is this really christianity? oppressing women?
No, it's not. Anyone remember the story of the woman at the well? She was on her 6th husband I think and living with her boyfriend and Jesus was like "So what, darling? I didn't come for the perfect people," and she ended up impacting her whole community for the better because he saw her value.
Load More Replies...There's the pursuit of happiness, then there's the pursuit of sexual purity.
take your bs and shove it in the millenium it belongs in... also here is our regular reminder that the story of jesus is an exact match for the stories of many, many very popular mystery cults around the same time and same place. as in an exact match. and there is no historic proof of a person like that ever existing and the first written accounts start about 40 years after his alleged death. believe what you want but stop using it to destroy women.
Tell me you know shït all about Christianity without saying you know shït all about Christianity.
Load More Replies...Not a surprise that this like ends up on here to be mocked by BP users.
feminism doesn't mean hating men! it sounds like your mom might have used feminism as a way to justify hating men. feminism is about wanting equal opportunities for women and men. if you're interested, you should read up on it because i know i can't explain things very well :)

Another pitfall linked to optimism emerges when you become ensnared by the hubris hypothesis. According to the above mentioned Belgian scientists, it involves "comparing yourself favorably and explicitly with other people. This leads others to believe that you hold disparaging attitudes toward them because you’re letting them know that you think of yourself as superior. It’s a particular form of pride in which the claims you make about your worth come at the expense of acknowledging that of other people."

Real feminism is letting women do what they want (as long as it's not hurting anyone) without shaming them for their choices.

Load More Replies...I am honestly confused these days. I was a tomboy as a child in the 80s/90s, and I didn't have ANY female friends growing up; all my friends were boys. I don't hate or dislike other females. I ended up having what were then-considered "stereotypically male" hobbies/interests like playing video games, chasing insects, and watching football. I tell people that when they ask about my childhood and I get called a "pick me girl". Am I? I don't understand the term, exactly, and I don't know what I'm doing/saying wrong :/ I didn't hate the other girls or feel superior/different from them... I was just a weirdo regardless of what my gender/sex were/are XD But in all seriousness, I don't really understand what a "pick me girl" is and whether or not I am one.
Lakota, I can assure you that that is not a pick me girl - actually it sounds fun (side note, what kind of video games do you like to play?) And anyway pick me girls aren't self-aware lol so you're a step ahead. Pick me girls are ones who deliberately shun other women and try really hard to get male attention by slagging off their own gender and attempting to be "one of the guys". ACTUALLY being one of the guys is absolutely fine, of course. But these girls who go around saying it all the time can be compared to the "nice guy" thing - if you have to constantly tell everyone around you that you are one, then you're not one.
Load More Replies...There is nothing wrong with wanting to be different. The problem is only when you try too hard or you think you're superior to others because you are not like them.

Girls. Ok. Please just be yourself. You don't need to broadcast how you are to the world to be noticed by anyone. Just be who you are and those who have the privilege of being around you will see it and appreciate you for you. Forget those who can't appreciate you, and enjoy those who can. But no one needs this kind of social media post to be noticed by anyone.
