This Guy Tried To Ban Gay People From Entering His Store And It Backfired Hilariously
When it comes to stating your opinion, there’s nothing like a big sign to perfectly convey your stance one topic or another. Jeff Amyx, a hardware store owner from Tennessee, displayed his stance on homosexuality by declaring gay people were not welcome in his store. The whole story began in 2015 when Amyx decided to put-up a sign that said ‘No gays allowed’ on his hardware store door. The store owner didn’t stop at the sign but chose to also sell homophobic merchandise.
Recently, the hardware store owner, who is also a Baptist minister, decided to replace the sign with one that includes more information in it. This time the sign states, “We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who would violate our rights of freedom of speech & freedom of religion.”
Once the whole story went online there was no way back. Many users took to Twitter and even the store’s personal Yelp page to state their opinion. People encouraged others to boycott the store, and even made an entire joke out of it by reviewing the store as a gay bar or even a sex shop. “Amyx Hardware & Roofing Supplies” received so much backlash that Yelp management even started deleting the comments, but this did not stop people from posting. The owner placed a clipboard next to his store where people who agree with him can sign, however, it is nothing compared to the over 300 one star ratings on his store’s page.

And it’s safe to say that the Internet was not happy about it at all

People took social media to spread the message, encouraging others to boycott Amyx’s store
In fact, the store’s Yelp account received so many bad reviews, Yelp management started deleting comments that were mainly focused on the sign and not the shop itself
But nobody could stop the massive backlash
And even though people can sign a board next to the store to support the owner

People even starting joking in the review section that “Amyx Hardware & Roofing Supplies” was actually an undercover gay bar
Everyone came to the store’s Yelp page to ridicule the owner and his sign
Others even turned to the Bible to prove their point

In this case, even the heteroest of heterosexuals can get puzzled at such a random question at a freaking hardware store. Like "Hello, how much is that new Nvidia GTX 1180 GPU?", "Are you gay?"

You can still say you don't like them, and they are not preventing you from being Christain. scum like this is a large reason why our country is torn and broken. the same people like him will hate on someone for race/religion/or gender. and yet while we have protections and enforcement in place for those 3 things. why can we not have federal laws and protections against people like HIM passing prejudice on gay people?

Because that's not how it works (etc). Sadly, he can be a huge a*****e, and he has the right to say things we don't agree with. That is the ESSENCE of thought exchange. Because without that, we all think alike in a huge echo chamber, and we get thought police and newspeak. We do have federal rules, for government institutions... but not for private businesses (the latter being optional to deal with). And we don't need them, because, people like him are relics, representative of a small, thankfully fading minority.

The bigot makes me angry too, and if he dropped dead, the world would surely be better off. But writing on Yelp won’t do s**t. His bigotry didn’t backfire. He got bad yelp reviews from people like us but other bigots will now be more compelled to support him. If what this guy is doing is illegal then a legal route should be pursued. That wasn't placed into the Bible until the King James translation. The Island of Lesbos was known for having homosexuals during the time of Jesus. This is where the name Lesbian originated from. Jesus never mentioned it, nor condemned it! Also, in the story of the Centurion coming to Jesus, asking Him to heal his manservant. The translation for manservant can mean either 'lover' or 'servant'. Yet, Jesus exclaims, No greater faith in all the kingdom have I found. Another point to make is this. If you eat meat, you are not following God's original plan. Eating meat is a result of sin. The Garden of Eden was vegan! Genesis 1:29. So, eating meat is lacking in the knowledge of God!

The only people who could enter and violate is freedom of speech or religion is a government official, because these freedoms are freedom from the government restricting their rights. If I tell someone to shut up when I don't like what they are saying, I am not (I CAN NOT) be violating their right to free speech. Talk about a lack of education in this country! Yet, these people think nothing of it that there are government employees in Florida who are told BY THE GOVERNMENT that they can't say "climate change" or "global warming". I'm straight, but I think it would be interesting to dress up as a "stereotypical" gay guy and go shopping there. I'm betting that I would get kicked out just because of how I'm dressed, not because I'm actually gay. Conversely, I wonder how many gays have shopped there already and gotten away with it because they not being overt about their sexuality. Bisexual and gay are two different words. So technically I'm not violating the rules. I also want to say I have nothing against gays, and am totally supportive of my LGBTQ peers. The only entity that can violate his freedom of speech and his freedom of religion is Congress, not a civilian customer. The First and Second Amendments prohibit Congress from doing anything to constrain those rights. I must say that I fully understand why any self-respecting business owner would like to bar Congresscritters from his store.

It is evident to say now thankfully that religion IS NOT spiritually in any essence. The simple fact that one can try to ‘bluff’ as someone who is of goodness ,just shows clearly what lies & absolute deciept ‘that mind’ of his has. Sadly he is not likely to be forgiven in this reality realm for many who are indeed smart, did this by consistent challenges that never finish past general education. Few days back I tried to post my point of view on this XTian idiot's take on what God's law was really about, I wanted to remind him that the Bible was NOT written by God but written by MAN with all of man's prejudices and whacked views like stoning one's own children ... you know, s**t like that... but alas I was greeted with the dreaded "Active Cleanup Alert" notification. Folks that take the bible literally need help. I'm as spiritual as they come but I don't take "the written word" in the context that some folks take it. It was written eons ago too, I'm sure if a new bible were written today it would be worded QUITE differently and most of these haters wouldn't have anything to stand on but their own black hearts.

What really outrages me is this person calls him self a man of God, a minister at that! Christianity literally means to be Christ like. Jesus earned his followers with his love, compassion, and openness. He didn't care if someone was dirty, gay, or a prostitute. He treated all the same. From this kindness he earned followers. I wonder, does his church prevent gays from going? Does he understand in his ignorant mind that what he's doing is everything against Christianity? HOW can this man claim to be a man of god, by being baptist/christian? I'm not religious, nor am I LGBT+, but I am an advocate for the LGBT+ community, and I thought Jesus wanted us to love on another, and that is part of what he tried to teach people. it is illegal to ban "blacks" from stores. i see no reason why gay people should be excluded from the same protections. both are brutally treated and misinformation/slander given to their kind. and in my experience its done by the same people for roughly the same reasons.

But people should NOT have the right to not let a certain type of people buy merchandise from their store due to race, religion AND a sexuality.
