“Looks Like We Got Karen As A Neighbor”: Man Gets Into A War With Neighbor Who Zip-Tied Her Snow Fence To His Gutters

Some might believe that having a good relationship with your neighbors can only benefit you. Need someone to watch your dog while you’re out? How about your next-door neighbor? Want some company while you drink your coffee? Have you tried knocking on your neighbor’s door? It’s nice to know someone living next to you that you can trust and have a nice conversation with once in a while. But what if they’re not into maintaining a friendly and simple relationship? What if they only care about their own well-being to the point where they start to bother you? In their TikTok account @chrismadison15, which is maintained by stepdad Chris and his stepdaughter Madison, the family shared a situation they had to face with their intrusive neighbor, making their story viral online. What was it all about, you might ask? A snow fence.

TikTok users Chris and Madison are a stepdad and stepdaughter who use their social media platforms to raise awareness about cancer, creating a project where they put the names of cancer survivors or those who are battling this disease on a bright sticky note, sticking them to a wall and this way creating beautiful and colorful patterns that commemorate these people. While they tend to share interesting and lighthearted content on their TikTok account, recently they started sharing multiple videos about their neighbor who kept bothering them with her snow fence.

TikTok user Chris decided to share how his neighbor tried to zip-tie her snow fence to his gutters

The very first video from the “neighbor saga” that received 32.5M views showed how the family’s neighbor decided she wanted to put up a snow fence and fixed it to their gutters. The man soon noticed what was done and proceeded to cut the fence off, as it is known that the fence could’ve ruined his gutters. The next day he had a talk with the woman who lived nearby and asked her not to zip-tie her fence to his house. While for many, it would seem like a normal thing to ask, the woman didn’t heed his request and proceeded then to pile a bunch of stuff next to the man’s house that would help to keep her fence up.

The TikToker once again approached the woman and asked her to remove the items that she put next to his house, giving her 2 days to do so, and when she failed to collect them in time, the man once again removed everything himself. This game of moving the fence back and forth took a few days, after which the man and his family noticed something that could have been motion sensors. The man shared that he tried to contact the woman once again when she came and tried to put her stuff and the fence back up on their side, but she ran away from him.

The neighbor decided that since she couldn’t attach the fence to the gutter, she could do it by piling up a bunch of stuff that would hold the fence up

The woman even put motion sensors for movement detection outside

The story reached its peak when the same neighbor decided to call the police on the TikToker and his family because they moved all of her stuff back to her side. However, this didn’t help as the woman came back and placed all of the same items next to their house. After the family once again removed her “junk”, the woman called the State Troopers once again. In his last update video, the man shared that “they told her if she does it again she’s getting arrested for trespassing, we’ll see if that stops her,” also adding in the comments that the police advised her to “put a stake up on her property for that part of the fence.”

But his opponent is as determined as he is, putting all of her stuff back up against their house

The videos showing the situation gained a lot of attention on TikTok, with many people watching it like a TV show, waiting for more updates. A lot of them were impressed by the man’s patience as well as questioning why the woman does that, speculating that perhaps this way she’s trying to make the family put up a fence between the properties. What are your thoughts on this situation? Don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the questions down below!

What is the right thing to do when you encounter devious neighbors who won’t agree to have a discussion and tend to do things their own way? Yahoo! Finance suggests that one of the most important things is to see whether you’re not making your neighbor act the way they do because you’re “the bad neighbor” by blasting music or allowing your pets or kids to go into their property. If that’s not the case, then still try and be friendly and share your concerns with them in a calm and respectful manner. Yelling or threatening someone doesn’t do any good. Another smart step is to document the things that are out of place or damaged, as well as read some rules and make sure you know what your rights are before contacting the homeowners’ association or even authorities.

Despite the police telling the neighbor to remove her stuff, she still left all of the things the way she intended to

After going back and forth with this situation, the woman called the police once again. This time they gave her one more warning before arresting her for trespassing

For everyone's information (and as briefly touched on in the post), it's a barrier to prevent big snow drifts from forming and getting to places that would cause a problem, like a road, or by a house. The snow clings to the snow fence and the drift would stop there... unless its utterly enormous.

sounds like a good idea; if a fence is allowed in the neighborhood, then put up a fence from the back all the way to the front just on his side of the property line. And if need be have the property surveyed before putting up the fence so he has legal recourse if there is any problems. I had my property serveyed because of a neighbor planting her flowers and things over onto my side. Good Luck

So there is a show called Fear Thy Neighbor. It's a show about neighbor disputes getting out of hand, and they all start with something small and stupid like this. I watched one where a new neighbor moved in and decided to use the garden in her yard to plant edible flowers. Well the neighbor was already using that garden for her plants, which then turned into the old neighbor putting slug poison in the new neighbor's garden and eventually escalating to the point of a pipe bomb going off. Disputes about property can get pretty serious and in most places the cops can't or won't do anything because it's a civil mater, at best they can be called to defuse a situation but it seems a lot of times there isn't anything they can do before something actually happens.

I want to emphasize that OP has EVERY right to fully assert his property ownership. But something in this lady's head isn't working, and I'm wondering if confrontation and opposition really is the best way to go? Why is she so adamant about the snow fencing? Is the OP worried about it damaging the gutter or restricting his access to travel from the front yard to the back? If she thinks she is preventing a snow-caused misfortune, could she be humored even if she is wrong?

Guarantee it's about the leaves. She raked her backyard (and I'm assuming the front as well) and didn't want his leaves to come onto her property. They need to show some kindness and empathy. The "problem " could have easily been solved by moving the stake to be flush with his home.

I hope she's getting ticketed every time she calls the cops on them for moving her belongings off of THEIR property... Also, why is this fence necessary? I see little to no snow.

I would've just thrown it away...there is video documenting you removed it multiple times...break it down and put it in the bin...whatever part of that snow fence is on your property cut it off, now it can't reach.

The second time she called police on the neighbor for the same thing they already told her she was the problem over, she should be charged with filing a false report.

I had no idea those were snow fences. They use them to stop erosion of hills and coastal areas in Southern California.

Same principle. They are not officially "snow fences" but are often called that in areas where snow drifts as they are used to stop that much like dirt erosion.

Why did she keep doing that? Just bored, did she think it was her property? Seem’s like it’s her daily outing. You should put up a wooden fence to separate your properties and see what happens.

So strange. Minor quibble- the vertical piece isn't a gutter, it's a downspout in the US where this takes place. Gutters are the horizontal pieces on the roof's edge. Petty, I know, but as a contractor this was driving me nuts!

The neighbor is obviously not all together in the head. My initial thought is to not let it get to you. But I guess the principle of the thing is she has no right to put things on your property. I agree with the one comment about anything on my property gets thrown in the trash so I would’ve taken down the fence and all the junk that she put up against it, put it in a bag and set it out for garbage. Eventually, she would have to run out of trash to create a fence. lol!

What you can get her on: filing false police report twice can be deemed as harassment, improper disposal and illegal littering of items on your property, trespassing, and vandalism of your property. I don't care how old and miserable the neighbors say she is, she's doesn't need to make others miserable

It seems like the root of the problem is that the neighbor lady doesn't want ppl on her property. She's using that flimsy fence to close off all entry ways. She really should have just put another post close enough to the garage to prevent people from squeezing through and then zip tied to that. It's not 100% but then again, using a flimsy plastic fence is far from 100% already.

It seems like this is one of the many 'problem neighbour' posts that could be pretty easily solved just by talking to them. He unnecessarily escalated the problem in the first place by cutting the fence down instead of asking her to move it, then whatever he told her the next day she obviously came away with the impression that his problem was with the zip ties, not the location of the fence. So he is probably in the right (assuming he's correct about where the property line lies) but he still sounds like a bit of a jerk.

I thought this forum was filled with nice people? You are all being nasty. Look at the picture, she's using the gate to keep his leaves off her property in the back and front. A decent person would calm the eff down and move the stake over 10 inches so the gate was flush with the house and his leaves would stay on his side. She probably spent a few hours raking leaves and didn't want to do it over again. You all need to chill.

No she's not, she's actually putting the leaves from her yard into their yard. They did move it over, she kept insisting it be attached to their home. She doesn't own all the property between the two, there is a line where the two meet and she's extending beyond that. Also, that fence isn't going to stop leaves, lol, they never really do, unlike snow which will compact as it drifts against it. Leaves may build up a little, but otherwise, nope, they'll go right through and/or over.

sounds like a good idea; if a fence is allowed in the neighborhood, then put up a fence from the back all the way to the front just on his side of the property line.

I love that show! It's partly why I picked a house with no neighbors.

They are not officially "snow fences" but are often called that in areas where snow drifts as they are used to stop that much like dirt erosion.

just throw her garbage out, you gave her fair warning and I would cut enough off the fence that she couldnt zip tie it to the gutters again.

Yeah I didnt get what was the problem. I attach my fence to my neighbour's pole too, but that's the dividing thing between our balconies. I put chicken wire on mine, because once one of my rabbits hopped to the neighbours' balcony.

why not pound in a t-post on her property lines and zip tie the snow fence to it? For a little investment and cash and labour both of you can be happy. maybe you'll make a friend.

I would cut the amount of fence off that crosses into your yard, wrap it around that pile of junk, and zip tie it as a nice little package and toss it in her yard. Or cut her zip ties again and zip tie it to her downspout! I could go on and on…lol! PLEASE KEEP POSTING UPDATES!

Nah. She simply should keep to her own property and f**k off. I'd have done the same as the fella. In fact, I'd have probably been more of a d**k about it, got an old barrel, chucked everything in it and set it on fire.
