What’s the most unlikely inspiration for a metal band? A Simpsons character Ned Flanders, of course, and that’s why Okilly Dokilly is the only Flanders-themed indie band out there. Created by Head Ned and Bled Ned (probably not real names), it has three other members: Red Ned, Thread Ned, and Stead Ned. And they play heavy metal, with lyrics that are all Ned Flanders quotes. For example, “All That Is Left,” is a song dedicated to the Leftorium store.

Okilly Dokilly is based in Phoenix, Arizona. They describe their genre as Nedal, which is “not as fast as Bartcore, and a little cleaner than Krusty Punk”. The head Neds came up with the idea while standing in a store check-out line and thinking up cutesy, fresh to the music industry names for metal bands. “In reality, this is all just an over-the-top attempt at getting Matt Groening’s autograph, even if it comes on a cease and desist letter,” Head Ned told RipItUp. If that doesn’t happen, the famous cartoon-inspired band’s first concert is supposed to be held on September 5th in Phoenix!
