Common milkweed is a native perennial found in parts of Canada and the United States. They are favoured by monarch butterflies, a species that are sadly endangered. I found a bunch together in a field near my apartment. Their colours as well as their white fluffy hairs looked stunning against the setting sun and made for an interesting natural subject to shoot with flash.
