Our planet is populated with both odd and amusing plants and animals. Some of them have been surrounded by myth and misunderstanding, and some we still know little about. David Attenborough’s series “Natural Curiosities” has revealed the remarkable evolutionary traits behind some of the most mystical wonders of the natural world.
Some of the quirky animals include flamingos, who survive in hot volcanic lakes by filtering out microscopic algae; salamanders that can regrow entire limbs; problem-solving crows that design intricate tools; and hippos, who secrete a vivid red mucus that acts as sunscreen.

I Heard Some Noise On The Roof This Morning
In an interview with Radio Times, David Attenborough recounted the particularly peculiar case of a greenfly that’s nearly all female. “Inside they are already pregnant. And inside the baby that’s inside the mother there’s another one. So you’ve got three generations all in one animal.” As bizarre as it sounds, that’s a very common insect we don’t really think of much.

Nature Is Scary As Hell
The Sandbox Tree also known as the "Dynamite Tree" grows exploding fruits. When fully mature, they explode with a loud bang and fling their hard, flattened seeds at speeds of up to 150 miles per hour and distances of over 60 feet. The shrapnel can seriously injure any person or animal in its path. As bad as this is, the exploding seed pods are only one of the ways that a sandbox tree can inflict harm.
The fruit of the sandbox tree is poisonous, causing vomiting, diarrhea and cramps if ingested. The tree sap is said to cause an angry red rash, and it can blind you if it gets in your eyes. It has been used to make poison darts.
Wow. The person who said nature is beautiful has CLEARLY never seen this tree!

Load More Replies...I know some people that wouldn’t even make it to the toilet in time if they saw that.
Don't hate or fear spiders, but I do not want them anywhere near my butt...
Well, that would have been one way to put a stop to the C-19 toilet paper hording.
"That's a lovely pattern, honey! Could you bring some back from India for me please?"
also, they should sell this everywhere if so. it would stop people hoarding tp
No one ever asked you too. You foreigners come and stay at the cheapest hotels and save money to travel like hippies. What else would you expect. Then blame India. You cant afford Indian luxury
Load More Replies...BURN THAT HOUSE TOO imagine if they used it not noticing the spiders
Almost as bad as monkeys coming into your room late at night and sitting on the footboard of your bed....eating his dinner....big mango.
In the US peope horde toilet paper. In India spiders are hoarding it.
At least there WAS toilet paper. When I went to India, there wasn’t.
For a moment i just thought it was prank TP with the spiders printed on the paper, but nope
well hell. I live in WA state, and this does not happen here, but even I don't put my toilet paper down on any surface because spiders DO find a way to get in. I recommend gallon size zip lock baggies... and lots of them. :)

yall why is everybody saying that the Earth is 5,000 years old? It's waaaaaaaaay older than that, and basing its age off of a calendar based in religion is quite likely to not be scientifically accurate. Please, for the love of all that is correct, stop saying the Earth is younger than we can soundly prove it is

I wish more of these had explanations. Some of them were completely confusing.
Nature is beautiful most of the time, ugly some of the time, and definitely deadly a lot of the time.
I'm living in Germany, and very often I feel like it's quite boring here. But sometimes I'm just grateful for all we have and for all we have not, as well.
I made this mistake of looking at this at 2:30 in the morning. I still can't sleep.
That was super interesting but also scary as fck. Anyway thanks for the warning in the caption. That saved me, as I scrolled down in slow motion and held my breath for every new pic.
Surprised at finding so many interesting things. This has given me some energy to learn more about these awesome creatures and plants. Thank you BP.
Nightmare inducing but really interesting. Thanks to those that provided explanations
But 'mother nature' or 'gaia' 'loves us'! Or, this planet is clearly 'designed for us'! - This didn't even get into what some tropical parasites will do to humans. You know what else 'mother nature' or 'gaia' or some supposed deity 'designed' for us? The Coronavirus, AIDS, anthrax, Ebola, e.coli - many other horrible things.
I love and hate these. I have a serious fear of spiders so I know there are usually some terrifying spider ones. But the rest are so fascinating!
I made it through all of them. I’m proud of myself! But I will NOT be sleeping, eating, brushing my tears or hair, or any activity where I might encounter this for a while..
Nature is wonderful, in many ways, we have so much beauty, be thankful for , and beware of a great many also !!!
maybe its just cause i want to be a marine biologist, but most of these were not "Scary As Hell," just 2% scary & 98% COOL! baby spiders are freaky though when theres that many
This story almost made me vomit for real. How do I get it off my page?
I think very few of these qualify as "scary". Cool and fascinating, mostly. (But spiders... spiders always scary. Except when cute. Like Lucas.)
Remove this from your site! Don't you ever show, nowhere, that disgusting picture of that dog's mouth! As well as some other terrible things 🤮
