30 Adults Share The Worst Things Their Teachers Did That They Still Can’t Get Over
Interview“Good morning, class! Everyone take your seats, please. Okay students, today we have a very exciting lesson plan! I’m going to give you terrible memories that you’ll remember for decades to come, and you’ll all hold grudges against me for the rest of your lives. Now sharpen your pencils, and let’s get started!”
Teachers have incredibly challenging jobs, and they hold so much power when it comes to shaping the youth. A caring and compassionate educator can turn kids into curious students of the world, but unfortunately, there are a few bad apples out there. Reddit users have recently been recalling their worst memories with teachers, so below, you’ll find the most unforgivable moments they experienced in school. We hope you can’t relate to these stories, pandas, but if you can, you can rest assured that you’re certainly not alone!

My English teacher admitted to marking down all my work by a grade because “I think you could do better”.
B***h, I *was* doing better and you made it look like I wasn’t.
Caused me to stop even trying.
I had really severe eczema on my hands as a kid. I used to keep them tucked up in my sleeves to avoid 1 people seeing them and 2 getting blood on my paper - yes, it was that bad. She called me out during a test and said to take my hands out of my sleeves because “it’s not like that’s gonna help my grade.” I was a shy kid and silently cried through the rest of the test. Also, I was a straight A, gifted student, so why she was acting like I had poor grade I never knew. I’ll never forget that woman being needlessly cruel to a child who was already in physical pain
We reached out to the Reddit user who started this conversation in the first place and asked what inspired them to pose the question, "What is something your teacher did in school that you’re still salty about?” u/SparkelsTR shared that they had just seen back to school ads on TV and thought, "Holy [crap], time for months of torment with very little return."
"It's not that the teachers are bad, but the system and other students, so I decided to make a post about some [BS] things that happen at school," the OP explained.
Gave me a failing grade in Debate just because my views were different than his. He forced us to watch The Passion Of The Christ in class (went to a private school) and didn’t allow us to opt out. My dad succeeded in getting him fired.
I'm half deaf, I was in social studies class, my teacher asked me a question, didn't hear her I said " what", she yelled at the top of her lungs " will you f*****g listen!"
After that day I told her, once she dies I plan on pissing on her grave, I still plan on doing that
SparkelsTR shared that there are many things they're still bitter about that teachers did, but thankfully, nothing major. They also clarified that they don't actually think teachers are bad, at least most of them.
The OP was also quite amused by all of the stories readers shared on their post. "The responses were quite good, some sad, some bad, and some funny," they told Bored Panda. "There was a guy talking about something, and some other guy told him to pee on her grave when she died, which was [so] funny to me, so I took the opportunity to quote him while replying to another person. Over all, I think the responses and the people replying were great."
In about 91, I was starting to get into animals, specifically marine animals. I wanted to be a marine biologist so i thought. Junior year in HS we all knew we had to do a bug collection. So I went on a family trip out of state and collected bugs in preparation. I put a lot of time into it. Mr Cope, the worst biology teacher ever, failed me because “I could not have collected bugs he’d never seen”. Completely shattered my confidence and desire to peruse science of any sort. F**k you Mr Cope.
My third grade teacher gave me marks down for spelling 'a lot' which her dumb f**k a*s "corrected" as 'alot.' I will probably spend the rest of my life still annoyed with her and I'm 36.
SparkelsTR also wanted to clarify that "this thread was not an attempt to discourage people from getting an education or be [terrible] people to their peers or teachers. This thread was aimed at people who had bad experiences."
But apparently, some readers didn't quite understand the assignment. "Why would you write about how your teacher was so good and wholesome on a thread about bad things teachers did?" the OP asked. "So many who didn't have stories, didn't write stories."
In middle school I did a display with real fossils that my parents had let me borrow. The teacher was insistent that I sell the fossils to him. But I refused.
So the teacher gave me an F on the display.
20 years ago, we had to make a diorama. We all had them sitting on tables in the classroom and one day some other kid was messing around, fell into the table and smashed mine. I failed the assignment for having a smashed diorama.
4th grade teacher. If there was any crease or wrinkle on your paper or worksheet it was an automatic fail. Even a slightly curled corner. I'd learn much later in life it was a severe OCD tick of his. They told me like that excused it. No, he shouldn't have been teaching young children if he couldn't manage his illness. Most mothers ironed their kids homework. To this day I get nervous about submitting paperwork that has any kind of crease, tear, or stain
I remeber geography teacher riping my hammer paper i did for presentation and throwed it in the trash because i didn't have printed pictures. I had drawings instead. I felt humiliated and cried in front od everyone. Got a D grom that subject. F**k her. 😒
Fck the teacher for not understanding what an accident is
Load More Replies...Heard about this from my daughter years after the fact. She had to make one of those in second grade, except she didn't make one. When they got called on to present she walked over to the tables, apparently looked horrified and burst into tears. She said "it's not here." Teacher asked what the diorama was and she rattled off a scene with some president. To her amazement, another kid piped up and said "yeah, I remember seeing that one!" and several other kids joined in with "me too!". She got away with it. Didn't get a great grade but didn't fail. Different outcomes but your story and my kid's story just prove how unfair life can be.
As a parent I would be seething at this. Principal's office, without question, to browbeat them to death.
Children need to learn how to stand up for themselves in tough situations, and life kind of teaches it to us along the way... but... when a child is hurt in the process of learning that lesson by the TEACHER, their parents need to step in and stand up for them. Parents interfere too often, but here is when it matters. Poor kid!
Load More Replies...Similar thing happened to me in middle school. We made canteens out of clay as part of a lesson in coiling. When I went to take mine to the racks to dry before we put them in the kiln in a few days, someone knocked my tray out of my hands and smashed the still-soft canteen. I got marked down for it being deformed.
I had a teach accuse me and a classmate of cheating on an exam because we had the same answer. It was a multiple choice test and she was upset we both had it correct.
At the end of my first week at a new school, the teacher handed out slips of paper with our current grade. I had a solid A at my old school, but the teacher said I had an F. I asked her why. She said I didn't hand in the quarter project. I reminded her I had just moved to the school. She said we would give me the weekend to do it. The project was to interview a longtime local resident and write a paper about their experiences. The articles were being collected for a book she was "writing." I failed the class.
Parents should have had a sitdown with both the teacher and the principal.
Tried to force me to write with my right hand...
I had a coworker who went through that kind of hell in school. When her parents saw her red knuckles as a result of getting hit with a ruler, they paid the teacher a visit. She was given a warning: if it happens again, you're fired. It never happened again.
I had left my calculator on my desk in physics class and the teacher took it. I had engraved my initials on it so it was unmistakable. My problem with this was that he always asked me during class if I had my calculator and I told him I still couldn't find it. The end of school year comes around and another student was snooping through his desk and found my calculator. All year that a*****e was giving me a 0 for the day since I didn't have it.
Middleschool gym teacher. For the presidential fitness test, i decided i was going to do as many situps as i could without stopping. Made it to 200 before he said "you know i can only mark up to 50, right?"
Couldnt have said something sooner?
When I was in third grade, our gym teacher was often mean to Dana, one of my classmates, because Dana had trouble doing a lot of the exercises. Later Dana's family learned that she had a progressive inherited neurological disease. By fourth grade she was in a wheelchair. By fifth grade she no longer attended school. She died when we were in sixth grade.
Her younger sister also inherited the disease (I don't know what it was) and died. Their younger brother did not inherit it.
High school psychology teacher ”evaluated” me in front of the whole class as ”mentally troubled” and told everyone that I’m ”an undiagnosed ADD-case with 99% certainty”. And because she was a psych teacher, everyone took her word for it.
Yeah, thanks for making everyone think I was mental throughout high school and giving me nagging self-doubts if I really did have ADD for most of my 20s, until I got that medically ruled out.
I wasn’t always the best behaved kid and even back then I understood that, but that was pretty harsh of her.
It's not just harsh, it's extremely unprofessional. If she suspected ADD or any other issues she should have called the parents and suggested they take the kid for an evaluation. This is something we tended to do as psychology students in the first years, we kept seeing diagnostics everywhere, but even as 19-20 year olds we kept the "revelations" to ourselves...
One of my high school art classes was called 3D design, which was basically clay, sculpting, and various 3 dimensional art work. On the first day of class my teacher pulled me aside and told me she looked at my schedule which was mostly honors and advanced level classes. She said that because I was clearly such a good student she would grade me on a much harsher scale, and would hear none of my objections that being book smart doesn't translate to artistic abilities. The poor marks I received in that class skewed my GPA.
That teacher was jealous of your capabilities. There's a few teachers like that about. Teachers should have to pass a pych evaluation and you know, maybe not hate kids, to enter the profession. Sadly it seems as though some are just people who did a degree, didn't know what to do next and liked the bursary from the government for becoming a teacher. They stay bitter through all their career.
I won a toy as a prize in some sort of class raffle, the teacher confiscated it off me forever for playing with it at lunch time in the playground. I was in grade 3.
"...confiscated it off me forever..." Stole it. You mean they stole it.
Threatened to hit me when, as a brand new mid-term transfer in Grade 3, I was too scared to speak to ask for her help, so I had tapped her on the arm instead to get her attention. Apparently, that warranted threatening to assault an 8 yo in the 90s.
I had been there less than 2 weeks and had just transferred from a school of 40 to a school of over 200.
The cut off point for getting an A was 80%, so my History teacher gave me 79.9%. He refused to back down, even when my mother put in a complaint to the school, asking what I had done wrong to miss out on 0.1%. He refused to give a reason. Still kind of burns me up when I think of it, because it was so petty.
Signed, a B++ History student.
She told me to get the hell out of her classroom because I forgot to get something signed by my mom. She then marked me as truant and played dumb when the principal got involved.
That teacher deserved to get publicly fired and endure the Walk if Shame in front of the whole school.
Never gave my art a higher grade than a B+. Even though she asked me every year if she could hold my art back, to show everyone how to correctly apply a technique or what she wanted from everyone else that next year. Not good enough for an A, but this is perfect and it's what I want everyone to do. Which is it then? B***h.
Had a teacher who repeatedly dress-coded me for things that weren't even in the rulebook. B***h had the audacity to call it "water under the bridge" when I confronted her years later as an adult. No, b***h, it's *not* water under the bridge. You don't get to mistreat someone and call it "water under the bridge." That phrase is reserved solely for victims who have decided to forgive their abusers, and I dont forgive grown adults who bully children. She actively disrupted my education by sending me out of the classroom multiple times just because she doesn't like goth kids or the clothes they wear. The only skin exposed was my face and hands - this was during my *Tripps and a hoodie even in summer* phase.
I wish that as an adult I could talk with the teachers and administrators who bullied me with the dress code, starting when I was 11 years old and developed breasts before the rest of my class. It was hot and there was no AC so I was taken out of class and had the straps of my shirt sleeves measured nearly daily, even though my mother never bought any tank or tee with less than two inch shoulder straps. All because some adults felt eleven-year-old me was “flaunting” my new breasts by wearing “skimpy” shirts. Fücking perverts
Math b***h decided to take me to one task, I had to solve it in front of my whole class. I did, I was pretty confident the answer was correct.
Then she checked it, went full crazy mode and made fun of me for about 5 minutes, called me silly words and rewarded with juicy bad grade.
Then she proceeded to show my class how it should be done.
She did it exactly the same, just like I did 5 minutes earlier.
Some of my classmates told her about it.
She was like “oh, y’all distracted me”.
She never spoke to me directly after that
I was about 9 years old and she wrote our language's word for "ceremony" on the blackboard. She spelled it with an S, like "seremoni", and I raised my hand and asked if the word should not in fact be spelled with a C. She argued that she was quite sure it actually was an S, and wouldn't back down, even though I was absolutely sure (I read a lot of books as a kid and had read the word in my native language multiple times). Of course I looked it up after the class, and it turned out I was right. Still haven't forgotten, 20 years later. I guess she didn't want to lose face in front of a bunch of kids.
Bruh. My year 5 teacher congratulated us when we corrected her mistakes
Math teacher asked the class a question, I confidently put my hand up and gave what I thought was the correct answer. Teacher looks at me and says “Not everything has to be a joke Mark”. That truly crushed my spirit and I never put my hand up to answer another question all year.
Adults really need to learn that the little things they do that seem inconsequential mean a lot to kids and that kids will remember what happened for years
There were a few from this one teacher but two things stand the most.
1. Gave me a 0 on a test because my pencil broke. She wouldn't let me sharpen it, or use another pencil. "You should have been prepared" was her reasoning.
2. Would make fun of me for getting an answer wrong. Other students would get a simple "no" if they answered wrong, while I would get scolded and 'talked to' for 5 minutes about how I'm so dumb.
That last part drives me bonkers. Any teacher who vocalizes “you’re so dumb” should be instantly fired. I once had an awful math teacher who would abuse my classmates like this. She fawned over the the straight A students like me, but would hit and yell at the struggling students who would answer incorrectly. Her favorite was “you are so stupid.” I’d never seen anything like it. Apparently neither had my parents. When I told them what was going on they forced the school to “retire” the abusive woman.
Art teacher tore up a painting of mine because he said I didn’t follow instructions. We were told to paint an underwater scene. I did, but used a lot of orange and red tones and explained that my underwater scene just wasn’t where water looks blue. He didn’t like my answer and tore it up.
She gave me detention for chewing gum. I didn’t even enter the classroom when she did this. She smelled mint from my mouth when I said good morning back to her
In grade 4 my teacher kept making me redo my printing sheets because my handwriting wasn't neat. Eventually I asked him why he didn't make any of the boys redo their sheets because they had messy handwriting too. I still remember the look of shock on his face but didn't understand the significance at the time because I was just genuinely asking. I don't remember what he said afterwards other than the fact that I didn't find his answer satisfying.
I had the same problem with cursive - all the teachers INSISTED on assignments being written in cursive, then whined they couldn't read it. These days, I would tell them straight up, "You want it in cursive, or you want it legible. Pick one."
The c**t made a point of belittling me every single day for a year because my interests were different from the mainstream in a small town. Nothing whacky either, I was into pop culture (like nina turtles and simpsons, etc) in a place where there was no culture outside football for boys or netball (or just being quiet) for girls. I'm over 40 now, and I still go back to that town a few times a year, and that old prick is lucky I haven't got my revenge now that the tables of relative strength have turned. Also, he used to wave his mushroom d**k around in the change rooms when we had swimming carivals. Like every time.
I finally have a story for this type of question - two, in fact! 1 - my art teacher told me, and my parents, that I had absolutely no talent in art. I loved art, I loved being creative. She said this during a parent teacher interview, which she called to tell my parents exactly that. Then, she waxed poetic about how amazing my brother was at art. It’s been 15 years, but I still hear that every time I try to draw. I miss it, but it’s always in my mind. 2 - I was called to a meeting by the school guidance councillor to inform me that the school believed I was too stupid to go to uni. I didn’t have the best marks, true, but I tried my best, and being told that I was too dumb to do what I planned to do basically made me stop trying. Jokes on them, though - I ended up going to uni as a mature age student and I now have a bachelor of IT!
as a university instructor, i see the mental anguish my students experienced as children affect them as adults. before i became a teacher, i took quiet notes about how NOT to act with students. god these stories make me angry and sad.
I had a teacher that assigned us a family tree assignment. I didn't know anyone from my dad's family, he had walked out when I was 2, and my mom was in prison so I couldn't ask her. So after class I pulled her aside, and explained the situation. Told her if I did my family tree it would only be half done, but I would be more than happy to do my mother's family tree so I could complete the assignment. Her response? "No you have to do yours, and if it's only half done you only get 50% credit". I went to the principal over that. I was a mostly A student, and she was literally penalizing me for having messed up parents. The principal made her let me do my mom's. But she hated me the rest of the year.
I still remember when I was six, I was ill but the teacher wouldn't call my parents. I was hanging on for break, hoping being outside would help. But she told me if I was so ill I couldn't go on break either. And left little six year old me all alone in the classroom. Where two other teachers found me after hearing crying and after I told them I was ill and not aloud out, they called my dad, who came to pick me up. I remember how relieved I was when I puked at the end of the school-playarea, so I wouldn't have to worry about my dad believing me. A six year old should not be worried about being believed when ill
😞 this makes me so sad. I'm glad you were seen and sent home by others but I personally hate the teacher that did that to you.
Load More Replies...I was about 16 and it was my creative writing teacher. I wrote about how there were a group of doctors, colleagues, camping together and one of them injured themselves with lots of lucid dreaming he didn't realize he was (told from his perspective) and at the end perspective changed to when they pulled the life support plug. I got a D. Why did I get a D? BECAUSE A GROUP OF DOCTORS CAMPING TOGETHER WASN'T REALISTIC. Not cause I wrote horribly, no, cause she didn't believe that a group of doctors camped together. The assignment never even had a requirement of realism ... IT WAS CREATIVE WRITING!! This was like 20 years ago and I still get so freaking upset. Poor excise for an educator. A D?! Maybe an A- or B (as per my writing skills up to that point) if she didn't agree or some such ... BUT AN ALMOST FAILING GRADE CAUSE SHE COULD NOT COMPREHEND COLLEAGUES CAMPING TOGETHER! Eugh. Rage. Idiot.
This is infuriating. The absolute best thing about creative writing is that there are zero rules. You can do anything. Toys don't come to life and have meetings that are led by a cowboy, but someone wrote a story about some that do. People don't hitchhike through the galaxy with towels, but someone wrote a book about people who do. A time lord doesn't actually travel around in a police box-- There are so many wonderful, fantastical, would never really happen stories and your teacher marked you down because people who happen to share the same profession going camping together is just too crazy of an idea to be real? Jfc....
Load More Replies...This stressed me out. I suffered through secondary school because one bullying teacher didn't like my mother. The reason she didn't like my mother was because this teacher had driven into her in an otherwise empty car park and had to pay for repairs to my mother's parked car. The pettiness and power play some adults engage in with children is ridiculous.
Wait, the teacher was the cause of the accident and that made them not like your mom and by transference you? Jeez!
Load More Replies...I was in kindergarten. We were practicing writing numbers. Teacher came around. WENT off on me because I didn't loop my 2..."looks like a Z with a hook" I couldn't loop my 2...she put me in the "timeout box" Three plywood boxes that formed a cube. I had to remain in there til I could loop my 2. Yes..I did start to cry.
My mom died two days after I turned 14. She had a been sick, but nothing to that level. It was Thursday. My dad flew back from across the country, moved three kids into his one bedroom apartment and had her funeral on Sunday. When I was at school Monday, I told my teachers why I missed school (my dad had already called the office) and I got a lot of understanding... except from my physical sciences teacher. He said he needed a note for my absence, I said my mom died, he said he still needed a note or it would be marked unexcused. He never got one and I have nothing but evil thoughts for him.
My French teacher in HS was also my homeroom teacher. She had her pupils whom she loved, but if she didn't like you... oh boy... In front of the whole class she called you lazy, stupid, told you that you're not going to achieve anything, and many other things like that. She failed me in the same test six times in a row - interestingly, every time I lacked *exactly* 4 points to pass, and to this day I'm sure that I shouldn't fail some of them. Every term she threatened that she'll make me repeat year 'cause of my bad performance -and then I had 78% on important national exam. Since year 1 I wanted to transfer from language-profiled class to biology-profiled but she didn't let me which screwed my chances to study in my prefered field. Funnily enough, there were two suicides in two consecutive years she was a homeroom teacher. She still works in that high school to this day as she's buddy-buddy with headmistress.
I had an art teacher in HS who refused to believe I drew something. Made me sit at my desk and recreate it "exactly* without being able to look at it for reference. Obviously I wasn't able to duplicate it as it was a portrait and the b***h failed me. It shattered my confidence and wasn't able to pick up my pencils for years. My dad was a Disney cartoonist and a realism artist who I got my skills from. I could have been doing that instead of working for the railway now. Another HS teacher, after seeing ME get hit with a snowball thrown by ANOTHER in the school, had the audacity to grab me by the collar, throw me into his classroom and into a chair and threaten to beat the s**t out of me after I graduate. Of course, me being GenX, my parents didn't do anything. But he died a few years ago. So I win. F**k you, Mr. Gainer from HHS in Tbay, Ontario. I hope your family reads this and sees what a POS you were (even tried to pick up one of his female students after grad).
This was hard to get through emotionally. I almost stopped reading them multiple times. So relatable and heartbreaking. Just put it this way I would rather put a bullet in my head than go back to school. I might get down voted for this but it is that horribly extreme. Been diagnosed with PTSD from what happened. Just walking into a school gives me panic attacks😥😢
It took years to make peace with what the few lousy teachers and bullies did to me. I get what you are saying.
Load More Replies...I had a math teacher that would make fun of me in front of the class when I was going through seizure-type medical issues in middle school, requiring MRIs, EEGs, with and without contrast and sleep deprivation... needless to say homework was the last thing on my mind, and the fact that I would have to clean, break down then pack up my clarinet AND high-tail it across campus before the bell rang was no easy feat. This man-woman would stand me in front of the class and mock me, calling me stupid and lazy. She even reported me to the principal for shortening assignment#14 to (a*s. #14).... I didn't even think to write it as asgn. #14. You can clearly see what I meant, but she wanted to believe the worst, but thankfully everyone else in the school loved me and they laughed her out of the office. I never went to them for the way she treated me though. I don't know why, even though I knew it was wrong. So eff you, Mrs. Henry. And your mean, ugly-spirited daughter Tara, too!
I took a course in university called “Geological maps and cross-sections”. At the beginning of the semester, the prof warned us that the first half of the semester would be hard as we learned to think in 3D when using 2D maps (particularly for sub-surface mapping) and that we probably wouldn’t do well on the midterm but would pick up in the second half of the course. Normally, the course was taught by two people, and the prof teaching us the whole semester was the one who normally did the second half. Well. He was clearly a better teacher and we were a group of students who picked up the concepts quickly because our midterm marks were great. Instead of the department considering what this might mean for the instruction and understanding that different cohorts will perform differently, they made the final damn near impossible. Questions on concepts and approaches we’d never heard of, let alone covered and so couldn’t answer.
All to drag our class’ grades back down to align with those of previous years.
Load More Replies...I was a pack rat as a student, I admit it, so yes my backpack was crammed with papers I would never need again. BUT, to teach me to clean it out and be better organized, one of my elementary school teachers took my backpack to the front of class one day and upended it all out onto the floor. Then she had the entire class stop what they were working on and watch me picking it up, sorting out things I no longer needed to keep. It was a solid 15-20 minutes, and I was bawling and embarrassed the entire time. Publicly shaming a crying 12 year old in front of his peers for the sake of a life lesson...that's some Teacher Of The Year material right there
In 4th grade, I was out sick for a few days. Mom called school to ask teacher to put together the work I was missing, my brother would pick up. Teacher opened my desk to collect the books I’d need, and discovered a bunch of ants inside. Apparently, on my last day before being absent for sick, I hadn’t eaten all of my lunch, *and* hadn’t taken it home, either. A small ziplock with some leftover fried rice in it had attracted ants. Instead of cleaning the stuff out like a normal person would, she left it the way it was- until I returned to school. I’m just sitting there, and suddenly she’s running at me, screaming. She yanked the lid of my desk up, then violently knocked it onto its side, me still in the chair. FULL of rage! Books, papers, pencils, the rice, the ants spilled EVERYWHERE. I didn’t even know what was happening. Shescreamed at the class that I was a filthy pig, my desk was infested with bugs! I. Was. Mortified. We were scared, shocked at how extreme and inappropriate it was.
My fifth grade teacher joined the class in making fun of me. They were all chanting "Jaclyn shaved her arms" over and over. (I did, because they made fun of them being so hairy) She thought it was hilarious while I was crying in the middle of the room surrounded by my classmates. Kathy Mazzarelli if you're reading this I hope you rot in hell.
In elementary school I had a teacher that punished me for being "too smart". I'm not smart at all. I'm just very analytical and obsessed with logic and common sense. Discovered way later in life that i was autistic. The teacher would play games where you had to figure out puzzles. If you won you recieved a prize. I was never allowed to win. She would ignore my answers, she refused to answer my questions, and she was just awful to me. My mom got involved and talked to the principal. He didn't care that I was being treated like garbage. I just stopped speaking to her altogether. She's the reason I can't ask people for help to this day.
Once in year 6, we were talking about the UK, so I decided to share a the fact that Wales has a rainforest. My teacher said that I was wrong and embarrassed me in front of the whole class. (I was one of the top students in my class.) Only to find out years later that I was right. It's in Lennyrch.
My first grade teacher encouraged the whole class to bully me and she told my parents that I was the bully when the main bullies were her, 3 kids in my class and the students who were in the grade above us. The bullying changed a lot of fundamental things about me and is why I cry an abnormal amount
On my first essay i high school, my English teacher only gave me a B+. His explanation - "No one gets an A on their first essay." We did not become friends.
Welp. I just learned I have a little PTSD when it comes to remembering my elementary school years. Half my teachers (1st, 4th, and 6th grade) loved to hit as punishment. I heard my 1st grade teacher was physically removed (she had been fired, but showed up anyway) from the school years later after they came to the conclusion she was mentally unstable.
Had a racist teacher. I'm not very good at the sort of math they teach in 3rd grade. So my 3rd grade teacher said to my mom w/me outside the class (parent-teacher conference), "She should be better at math [I had a B]! She is an Indian!" And I was so p*ssed, I eventually told her she wasn't a very good teacher. This was in 3rd grade. And I'm in 7th now!!!!! >:(
1st grade (7yrs old) - I was a messed up kid to begin with, father died when I was 5 and when I was 7, right before school started, brother was killed. I also had bad allergies - so between crying and allergies I was constantly getting up getting a tissue. Teacher got pissed and literally ties me to my chair ( using my dress's belt) So I spent the rest of the day like that with snot crusted to my face. Fast forward to High school psychology class (16 yrs old) - and one of my classmates retells the tale ( the class thought it was hysterical)- I wanted to die of embarrassment
Pretty sure that is child abuse, I'm so sorry.

My kindergarten teacher let us volunteer to read a book of our choice to the class during story time as we were learning to read. I was so excited to volunteer. My only mistake was reading 'like' as 'lick'. She told me in front of the class "If you can't read the book right, then don't bother reading it to the rest of us." I was so embarrassed. I didn't volunteer to read in class again until late high school, and even then only if I could scan ahead to be sure I knew all the words.
broska, i've done the same thing, AND I WASN'T READING LMAO

This devastated me as all the kids started laughing and pointing at me. Thankfully, we moved the next year. In fifth grade, my teacher held up my cursive (script) practice paper and showed it to the whole class and said, "This is the worst handwriting I've ever seen". Except when required, I quite writing in cursive and mostly wrote in block capital letters.
A teacher I had in primary school refused to let me read my book during reading class. I learned to read at age two, so by the time I went to school, I was already reading proper books. So while she was teaching the rest of the class to read Dìck and Dora, I sat there staring at my desk, bored out of my mind. I told my mum as soon as I got home, and the teacher was reprimanded. The rest of the year, she ignored me in class while I read my book. Suited me fine.
Not a teacher, but one of my professors - wanted to give me an F because I had, allegedly, not turned in an assignment. I absolutely had turned it in. So he says "I'll open my folder with ungraded assignment files and you'll see it's not there." He opens the folder and... there it is - my assignment. Still ungraded and forgotten. There was a bit of extremely awkward silence, then he quietly gave me a B without even reading it :D
When I was in 5th grade, I failed very hard at learning English. I just didn't have an ear for languages. I couldn't even construct basic sentences and had a really hard time understanding and gaining a decent vocabulary or grasp another languages grammar. My parents were told by a friend of my father that hearing the language spoken by natives could kickstart comprehension, so they decided to take me with them on a prolonged holiday, exposing me to the English language in an English speaking country. The friend said, something fun would be best, my parents were rather well off, not super rich but had enough money to go extravagant, so they decided 4 weeks in Disneyland Orlando should do the trick. My teacher hated it. They got permission to take me out of school two whole days earlier for the summer holiday to get a flight. The school had already given their permission, but that bat felt it was 'unfair' and tried everything to sabotage it. Luckily for me to no avail.
Of course what the friend said was bogus and I was very bad at English thorough my whole time at school. I only ever learned it as an adult teaching myself using a different method. But it was an amazing trip Ill never forget.

My teacher looked up, glared at me a bit, then came over, grabbed my math book, gestured me to the doorway where he proceeded to throw my mathbook on the floor and kick it all the way up the hallway. Then he said "now go get your GD book!" Nobody in my class had the first clue to what that was about and to this day nor do I. I didn't like math much anyhow I suppose...
I was in high school grade 12 law class and I was taking notes when I suddenly noticed the teacher had stopped talking. I look up and see him staring at me and then accused me of shooting a spring from a pen from across the room. I tried telling him it wasn’t me and even showed my still complete pen and he wouldn’t believe me.
Aggressively ignored the ruthless bullying happening to me (I s**t you not, one of the boys actually made up a “tism touch” but my actual name), and THEN put me in the same group as the two worst bullies for the huge year-long project we had to do. F**k you Mrs. Wulgefahrt, and you Jackson, and you Winter, right in your little prissy princess a*s.
She’d mark down my assignments because I’d doodle on the side while she was talking. I was still paying attention, my hands just needed to move.
One of my son's teachers banned him from drawing or writing in class at all. She insisted it was because he did those things while she was talking instead of listening. But then she gets mad at me because he finishes his work early and is disruptive. "Why are you blaming me for that? You took away his quiet activities."
Load More Replies...My Junior School teacher said he thought I was stupid and an idiot to my mother; and not in a nasty or vindictive way. Genuinely thought this and said it to my mother as I stood and listened. It caused irreparable damage to me in terms of confidence, self esteem, self worth, trust, etc, etc. I was like 8 or 9!
My God!!! I am so angry after reading this. How in he!! do these people become teachers in the first place? The things I’m reading here are straight up child abuse. It can change someone’s entire trajectory in life and stop them from trying, from doing what they love and should be doing with their lives. I wonder if many of these monsters went into teaching for the abusive power trips they could take. My bullying problem was a horrific three weeks in a new junior high school, but that was by fellow students. I feel so lucky my worst was nothing like this. I was in grade 1. About 6. I had curly hair & ringlets all the way to the the top of my butt. My mom decided to have it all cut off to a pixie cut. The teacher had to restrain me to yank my winter hat off. Then when we stood up to sing the anthem says “I see we have a new little boy in the class today”. My hairstylists have had panic attacks when I come in. Cut it too short & die!
In junior high (in the 80s), another student and I did drawings from the same photo of a penguin with some sort of backpack on from National Geographic. The art teacher took them somewhere off-campus to be displayed. When he came back to the school, he tried to give me the wrong drawing. When I refused and demanded my own drawing, he insisted he was giving me the drawing I did, then stood there and tore it up in front of me. I can't remember his name now, but I will always remember his face.
Crazy second grade Asian teacher would take anything of the kids valuable that they said kids were playing with. Earrings. Rings. Chains. So I had a locket with a birthstone on it from Xmas. Wore it one day and was tucking it inside my shirt. Teacher sees it like a crow for something shiney and pounced on me. Give me that. You get it back end of day. Never gave it back. Told parents. Mom went to the teacher for it. She said she took it home. Went to principles for him to take charge. He tells her to bring it back. Next day nothing. Nope she says she gave it back. Nope. All the kids tell him she's done this. They get her to unlock her desk. There is a pile of kids property there. But few pc are missing. Necklace is one. Figured she was taking bits and pawning them. New rule nothing of value by kids can be brought in. Luckily most of the kids had older brothers and her tires somehow got slashed every time they were replaced for a month. Back in mid 1970s.
I didn't read all of these. All of these teachers DO NOT need to be in any job position that works with children!
Had a world history teacher in high school. Note I say world history. Nope in her class every day was black history month lol MLK was awesome don't get me wrong but this is world history... We should be also learning about France's revolution, and stuff like that. Also had really dumb "projects" that had nothing to do with world history, like designing a home for the 30th century? Duh!
Reading these was like trip down memory lane for me. Tons of the same behavior from all the teachers in our system. To me, later, the worst part was how selective it was. The same teacher would be a perfectly nice person to most kids, and a monster to a few. The selection could be anything, from a bad reputation, to a clash with the parent, or even an older sibling.
When I got into first grade, I had attended a year of preschool. Preschool was fine. First, I was left alone MYOBing. We all were, unless we wanted to do group stuff. Then, we were practically left alone, too, but that just wasn't for me. We could ask, we had some group activities that were mandatory, and so on, but the most important thing is that our teacher, then, didn't just scream out that she has authority over us and we are to obey, shut up and work like being programmed, but explained whatever we needed or wanted to have explained. Often, it didn't even get that far, but in case of conflict, the information a decision would be based on were told to everyone involved. In case one just didn't know something, and that lead to them fighting over something or so, providing the knowledge they were lacking - after all, we were like 5 years old, and that place was meant for us to learn, the entire building only was there for that - often resolved the conflict. Authority, neither founded and explained nor screamed and in power because in power, often didn't need to be involved whatsoever. That changed in 1st grade. I was a boy, and boys are bad. All of us. Always. We also are always wrong in case we argued with a girl, because girls were good, all of them, and never did any wrong. Also, when asked which book was present in every household, I said I think it's the phonebook, because everyone needs this, but she had expected the bible to be this omnipresent book. We had one, but I didn't know about that, and said we don't. She, afterwards, asked a bit more and found out we were not baptized, and, over time, got convinced I was possessed by some evil entity. She gave me one gift over the 1.5 years of suffering her regentship and hate, a plastic bound new testament. Green, because a bible in my favourite colour would increase chances of me reading it. I did, years later, read the entire bible. Anyway, there's a bit more to this, but I feel like I already wrote enough, ... it took 1 week to shatter my relation to authorities, and the following years, not ending with leaving that school to finally evade her, didn't really convince me otherwise, but confirmed that any authority based on anything else than actual and relevant qualification is a mistake, and a lot of these mistakes are systematic ones. The worse they are, the deeper they're rooted. Obedience is key, deviation is not only fault, but evil and always on purpose. Disruptive behaviour never is a result of a limited capacity of a bladder of a 6...8 yo, but always meant to disrupt without reason, out of spite or evility of person. Or a demon leads one to do so. A demon made me p**s my pants when our teacher grabbed my arm to prevent me from leaving the classroom. Would I have known better, I'd have placed myself differently in order to max out the amount of p**s that ended up in her clothes.
G.c.s.e double award science, I think the exams made up something like 60 percent of the grade and coursework (basically a mini thesis) made up the rest, I handed mine into the teacher early, then with a few days to go until deadline he told me he had ‘misplaced’ it and I’d have to do it again, I ‘bunked off’ other lessons to redo it, I handed it in again barely 15 minutes after the deadline and he refused to take it saying it was late. I have autism and this caused me to properly freak out. My parents took the matter to the head of school and the local education authority, the teacher ended up getting fired but his reason for losing them not accepting my work came to light, I had a ‘don’t attack Iraq’ badge on my backpack because my brother was a solider and had been sent over there and this teacher didn’t agree with it. Edit: somehow without the coursework I managed to get two C mark passing grades, then later when the grades were amended to include the coursework I got double A
I have a story, not as bad as these, but in year 1 or 2 (I went to a small school), two kids were fighting somewhere near me, and a teacher came over and sent me to my school's version of detention because of the fight, even though I wasn't near the fight and clearly didn't have anything to do with it. I tried to object, but for some reason the teacher was adamant that I had something to do with the fight, but somehow only I got in trouble for it. She (the teacher) was very unpopular with the students at that school and still is.
In my school we had these really messed up teachers who said really dumb stuff to kids, but looking back I think none of the kids cared that much
When I was in the middle of eighth grade they decided to change how we passed. It was originally 80% test scores, 15% homework and 5% projects/schoolwork and they then changed it to 80% homework and 20% test scores and schoolwork. I went from having a normal average of 90% as I had had from 1st grade through the first half of 8th grade to failing the second half of eighth grade and having to go to summer school because I never did any homework because I am a genius and would always score perfect scores on all tests and schoolwork and I didn't see the point in doing homework but thanks to parents complaining that some students get nervous and don't do well on tests I lost an entire summer being forced to sit in all remedial classes doing schoolwork I had already mastered by 1st grade.
My middle school band teacher hated me, mostly because we went to the same church, and one day my mother asked her husband not to feel her up at church. So one time I practiced, wrote town my times, then practiced more. So I erased the previous time and put in the new time. When I turned in my time sheet, she accused me of cheating. I got hauled into the principal's office and lectured by band teacher, principle, and guidance counselor for two hours.
I came from an abusive home and couldn't focus at school; they weren't teaching anything to help me survive, so it was like they were speaking gibberish. No surprise but my grades were barley passing. My fifth -grade teacher told me, "if school was real life, you'd be dieing in the gutter." Thanks for that, lady. That's exactly the encouragement I needed to help me survive.
I have two experiences, but not mine. In my infant school, all aged 4 going on 5, our headteacher would pull us up to the front of assembly and we would sing happy birthday. With one child, a boy, was sung to. The headteacher then said that he had brought one of his presents into school, which was a large bar of chocolate to show his friends. As sweets and chocolate were forbidden, he then had his trousers pulled down and was spanked in front of us all as a warning. Twisted and heartbreaking. The second was to my daughter who has a great grandfather who served in the navy before, during and after the Second World War. For a history project, we were able to find her a telegram, coded and decoded, that gave instructions that war had been declared and that the ship was now to open hostilities with Germany, 5 minutes after it was declared on 13.9.39. Because the teacher expected family photos, my daughter's project was downgraded.
Probably the worst thing I remember any teacher doing was my old year 5 teacher. He would throw chalk at kids and over the course of the year that moved up to the duster. As in the heavy wood and felt duster (no plastic in those days). I don't think he ever hit a kid with the duster but he was damned close. Would also kick the kids chair if they were leaning back on it (can't lean back on it because that's dangerous). And he was the only teacher I remember using the metre ruler to whack us on the a**e if we were "bad" (which could include aforementioned chair-leaning). I was a pretty good kid in school (nerd!) and even I got whacked with that ruler a couple times. It was kinda a badge of pride that proved how "tough" you were. And in case anyone was thinking it was a gentle tap, he broke two metre rulers that year. In hindsight he was definitely an a*****e but at the time we just assumed it was normal.
My English teacher pre 'O' levels in UK told my parents I had to stop writing gory war stories and I was going to fail my English. You could not get into higher education without English and Maths. In my 'O' level year - different teacher swore a lot threw your books back to - (my parents paid for this school) - inspired me and I ended up with a B.
Went to a very good school in the UK. My 'O' level year at 16 (now GCSE) my previous French teacher call him Mr. A. took us for French language only previously Language and Written. New teacher call him Mr. T. took us for Written French. Now I was useless at language - I was shy, got picked on and really struggled. So I worked out I could at least get a Pass on language if I tried really hard. First assignment, for Mr. T. I got the highest mark even beating the lads good at French. Mr. A. tells Mr. T. I had cheated. It got so bad my parents nearly had to write to the school in my defense and they were paying for this school nonsense. Anyway I just gave up after that and failed.
Had a language teacher really dislike me from day 1. No idea why. But my favourite example of them being harsh on me for no reason: mid lesson, everyone’s working quietly and I take a sip of my drink. She SCREAMS at the top of her voice, “PUT THAT WATER BOTTLE DOWN [ewok], THIS IS NOT A PUB”. I have no words, it still baffles me
When my mom was a kid, she had one teacher who simply hated her. Her answers on tests were always marked as incorrect, and she almost failed a grade because of it. She would study for hours just to flunk tests. Now here’s where the proof comes in. Her older brother had also had that teacher, and the teacher didn’t hate HIM. The final exams were the same every year, so my mom memorized the answers from her brother’s test (which was over 90% correct) and used them on her exam. Shocker, she failed the exam. She reported it to the principal with both exam papers as proof, and that teacher was fired ☺️
I suffered with panic attacks since second grade. My 4th grade teacher told me that my middle name should be “cry baby”.
In second grade my teacher told my parents I was a dunce in math and would never have any math capabilities. Well, I have a degree in electrical engineering...
lemme share one of mine: 5th grade math teacher EVEN AFTER I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH DYSLEXIA AND ADHD said that it was just an excuse and to just focus and learn to read. like i haven’t tried that. failed all her tests but one: coordinate planes. where i didn’t have to read. truly incredible, huh? when i had a hair tie on my wrist to stimulate my adhd she took it away and threw it out. wasn’t she the best?
My son's second grade teacher made him cry literally every day. I had NO idea. I knew there were issues w her and I was constantly at the school, talking w the principals, working w the counselor, and succeeded in getting his teacher changed midway through the school year. I ended up mciu y him to private school after that year. No issues after getting him out of her room. He didn't tell me what all she'd done until he was in high school. I would have had that b***h's job in a heartbeat. He's 21 now but she still better pray she never runs across my path. We saw her 1-2 years after I'd moved him and she was all sticky sweet and hi and whatever. I just looked at her and walked away. Had I know, dear Lord, they'd have had to drag me off of her in the middle of Target. I'm still livid. She was an older teacher, too, and had taught for years. I can only imagine how many babies she treated like my son. I'm not a violent person but I'd love to punch her in the throat. More than once. Lol
We were a very poor family growing up and my mom never had the money for school supplies. This was especially in elementary school, and several teachers rather than letting me slide with what I had belittled me and were harsh about it. At 40 this still bothers me and makes me send extra supplies every year with my children, just in case their are kids families that can't afford supplies.
My US History teacher said the worst thing to ever happen to the USA was the Gay Rights Movement. … Really, Coach Phillips? The worst?… he was later fired for unrelated reasons and his wife who was also a teacher/coach stepped down after she was found in a vehicle with a male student, intoxicated.
Literally last year I had a science teacher who utterly nitpicked test answers so you had to be extremely specific. Once I wrote down “Eggs are the female gamete” and she underlined “female gamete” or “Eggs” for some reason (can’t remember which word but you get the point). My friend on a different question had written “Most animals cannot reproduce asexually”, and my teacher added the note “But some do”. B***h that’s why my friend wrote MOST animals 💀. Don’t get me wrong she’s a decent teacher, but I shouldn’t have to spend 5 minutes contemplating on whether writing “For sexual reproduction to occur, two animals must meet and mate” will get me a mark off for not being specific enough.
I was in third grade and had been assigned to one of the two teachers who taught that level. My teacher was wonderful and always treated me with kindness but the other third grade teacher, who was also the wife of the headmaster, had her favorite girls in each class every year and was obvious about who her "dolls" were. I was not one of them. Ok, not the end of the world but when the day came where she saw me get punched in the stomach at recess by one of the boys who was a known bully, I approached her, in tears with the wind knocked out of me asking for some school yard justice only to have her first ignore me and then tell me to go sit on the fence (something they used to have kids who lost their recess privileges do until we went back inside). And she just allowed the bully to continue playing. B***h.
One more here— When I am having my higher Chinese p6 prelim, the teacher marked me down to 60+/100 when I am top in class, higher than the Chinese scholars (I am 12 at that time and the scholars are 14and 16 respectively). One reason for this, I did the paper too fast and I got bored in the exam so reread the whole paper and found a mistake. I told the teacher and the teacher berated me , saying that it was correct and it was just that I have ‘bad’ Chinese. 20 mins later, there was an announcement made in the exam hall saying that there was a mistake (legit the one I found). When I got back my paper, I was so dame shock at the marks, but I found out and the model answer the teacher provided was the same as mine. I got back my marks as the teachers have nothing to say ( I mean they are legit the same). They mark me down because they lost face.
When I was a senior in highschool I got sick over the Christmas holiday and spent a month in the hospital trying not to die and when I finally made it back to school my English teacher accused me of skipping her classes for a month and failed me even after I explained & showed her the 12in scar on my abdomen after having my intestines pulled out of my body and then stuffed back in twice during that month! She still didn't believe me and failed me! I've hated everything English ever since!
Teachers can effect a person for a lifetime. It is very sad when the impact is negative.
I was put in a refrig5box for talking and was there for over 2 months. I wasn't allowed to talk to anyone and on recess I had to hoe the track to get rid of the weeds ans goat heads
In 5th grade, we had to do an oral presentation ( already stressful because I was painfully shy ) about something we did on summer break that we love to do. We had gone to Washington, DC and I loved all the museums and monuments, so I did my presentation about that. I wasn't 2 minutes into it, when the teacher said ' That's not what the assignment was. Sit down!" I was mortified, trying not to cry. I don't even know what other kids did for their assignments, I wasn't listening. I assume it was something banal like Little League or Summer Camp. I still think what I did qualified as something I loved doing.
An amazing and dedicated high school teacher of mine once told us he thought there were two kinds of teachers: those that, like him, felt a calling, and those who couldn’t cut it in the undergraduate or professional world, but realized they could fall back on teaching. Mr. Halford, Mr. Wasser, Ms. Wood—they were special. Mr. Greene, Mrs. Witty, Mr. Proffit—they were all big fish in little ponds, and were bitter, awful people.
My very first day of school, aged 4, our teacher made us see how many times we could write our name, I genuinely couldn't spell my own surname correctly. Get to the end and se sees I've struggled and just says out loud 'well you got 1' other kids have done like 30
5th grade, a student and his father would do the newspapers sudoku together and my teacher heard of this, so she had the student bring in the next days sudoku and we were to all fill it out to our best abilities. The student who filled it out the best would win a piece of candy. Well, I did it, I got about 90% of the numbers correct. My teacher immediately exclaimed "you're bad at math so this is just a fluke". I didnt get a piece of candy, no one did. The student who brought in the sudoku was so confused and looked at me with what I assume was an apologetic look. For those who don't know, sudoku isn't so much about math as it is about patterns, which I am really good at recognizing.
I had to stop reading this because I was getting so angry. I think it is criminal to allow teachers to mark students up or down for any reason other than the answers on the paper.
i was a daydreaming kid, and bullied in highschool because of my last name that means Sheep (Amsterdam Jewish) One time i wasnt paying attention and the ahole started SCREAMING just my last name nonstop (normally we would be adressed by our first name, its not the army) and then bleating in my face. The whole class laughed and laughed and laughed. I was in shock. My friend said i had to take actions against him but i was too much in shock and too embarresed. Never even told my mom.
Second grade: she managed the classroom like a drill sergeant. All that yelling was pointless. Parents took me out of her class. Could still here her down the hallway screaming at those poor kids for nothing. Sophomore year: no matter how hard I worked, Lot teacher always gave me poor marks b/c she didn't like me. Always calling me out. Junior year: mediocre grades in a computer class where I knew more than the teacher. Wrote a long database program building upon things we were taught in class. She couldn't understand it so I got a C. I was the best programmer in the class. And then all the teachers that looked the other way when the bullies gave me c**p. I fought back because what choice did I have? Skinny mild mannered kid vs a bunch of redneck idiots. Fast forward many years: my own teen was having some personal crisis issues. We approached the school counselor and she and their faculty team did everything necessary to help our teen. Our teen is happy, well adjusted and thriving. So thankful!
This one's kind of mild compared to what the rest of you are bringing up, but I grew up in a university town and my school got a lot of teaching interns of widely varying abilities. One of my math interns wasn't really able to explain things, and a few of my fellow students expressed concern when the teacher was about to leave for two weeks of army reserve training. His answer: "well, this stuff isn't so hard that you can't figure it out for yourselves anyway."
Ugh I had a teacher before that was really mean to me for some reason. It was a 3rd grade teacher at our Sunday School in our old church. My best friend was her class pet and the teacher definitely had favorites. I was a really smart kid and I don't know why she kind of ignored me. Once, we had to do a summer Bible reading. Basically read the book of John over the summer and when Sunday school started again in the fall, you could get a prize if you did it. It wasn't mandatory, and a lot of the kids didn't do it but I did and was pretty excited for the prize. The Bible reading paper had boxes and the chapters on it. You were s
Sorry it sent by accident Anyways you were supposed to write summaries of each chapter in the boxes but I didn't know that. So I just checked off all the boxes. But I actually did read all the chapters with my parents. Anyways Sunday School starts again and the teacher is teaching our class again for this year, and she picks up my Bible reading paper and basically yelled at me for not writing summaries and "i could have just checked off the boxes and not read the book of John" she ripped it up and threw it in the trash. Needless to say, I didn't get a prize. I mean, I get where she was coming from but she didn't need to be so harsh with a 4th grader. And she could have asked my parents or talked with me first. Making assumptions like that about a student that has never cheated or anything like that before is kind of harsh. That's really the inly problem I've ever had with a Sunday School teacher. All the rest were nice
Load More Replies...I finally have a story for this type of question - two, in fact!
Load More Replies...I don't understand why these people insist on being able to shape the minds of children when they refuse to see them as fellow humans.
Load More Replies...Living in a small town in Pennsylvania USA in first grade (6yo?) as we were all gathering outside in the morning, waiting for school, the principal announced to me so that all could hear, "Wow, for such a little boy, you sure have a big mouth".
