The 26 Best Costumes From This Year’s “Mundane Halloween” Parties In Taiwan And Japan Where Everyone Dresses Up As Normal, Everyday People
Remember last year’s “mundane Halloween” in Japan? If not, a scroll through this Bored Panda list is a must! If you’ve seen it, however, you know what’s coming up next. That’s right—some of the best and the most hilarious Halloween costumes you’ve ever seen. An exaggeration, you might say? I beg to differ.
To give a short recap, a subculture called Jimi Halloween (地味ハロウィン), which can be translated into something along the lines of “mundane Halloween," began in 2014. For the spookiest holiday of the year, people dress up in costumes that involve everyday clothes and that tell a quite specific backstory of an everyday situation.
Although started in Japan, the trend has spread beyond the country and gained popularity in other parts of the world, as well. This year, costumes from a “down-to-earth" party in Taiwan are going viral, too. From “the guy who had to work during vacation" to “the surprised man who got a vasectomy last year," all the costumes you’re about to see are downright amazing.
“These are the best Halloween costumes I have ever seen in my life," someone commented on Twitter (see, I told you!). "Almost enough to make me actually like Halloween costumes," they added. “These are fantastic," another user added. "They’re all dressed as people in a country that got the virus under control. I want to go as that next year," someone summed up our feelings perfectly.
Scroll down below to see the list of pics from 2020 "mundane Halloween" parties both in Japan and Taiwan, and vote for the ones that made you laugh!
