Portuguese Artist Creates Noir Posters To Honor The Oscar Nominees For The Best Film
The Oscars is definitely one of the main events in the cinematographic world honoring artistic and technical merit in the film industry. It highlights the best movies, actors, cinematography, costumes, visual effects and many more, inspiring many artists every year. For this year's Oscars, Portuguese artist Nuno Sarnadas created a series of noir posters for the movies that are competing for the Oscar for best film, highlighting the characters in place of the golden statuette. Dark, mysterious and majectic, these works definitely deserve their own reward!
"It all started when the band I played in needed artwork to release its first EP. After that, I started studying and developing my technique to create artwork for bands and musicians. But being a hard-core movie aficionado and discovering the amazing world of alternative movie posters, I decided to try and produce some. That passion has been growing 'til this day, and it is something I really have a passion for. The art of telling a story of a film or a song through images is absolutely amazing and fulfilling, a constant challenge, and an expression of my love for all those forms of art"- the artist told Bored Panda.

They're cool and all but definitely not noir. If you look at any old movie poster none of them would look like this
The goal of the oscars is not to celebrate diversity in film. Although diversity is important, films should not be considered over others based purely on the gender of the director/ actors. There are plenty of wonderful films directed by women, but this does not automatically put them in higher importance as compared to others. Just because something is different does not mean it is better. Perhaps next year there will be an Oscar worthy film directed by a woman, but the films mentioned in this article, despite being written/ directed by men, deserve to be recognized this time around.
