I'm all for including more women on lists like this, but could we raise the bar a little higher than Nancy Meyers and Nora Ephron? How about directors with a unique voice and exceptional talent, like Lynne Ramsay, Jane Campion, Kelly Reichardt, Miranda July, or Chloé Zhao? I also wouldn’t mind exploring actual cinephile territory by highlighting non-English-speaking artists such as Věra Chytilová, Márta Mészáros, or Lucrecia Martel. Come on, BP, try harder — especially if you’re aiming for women’s empowerment.
