My name is Matt Dixon. For over ten years I've been making digital artworks of robots. Exploring the world they inhabit and collecting the works of art into the 'Transmissions' books.
Since being diagnosed with a rare eye condition in 2015, the time I spend with my unique art has become more precious than ever. The condition, macular dystrophy, means that I am slowly losing my central vision. There's no cure and it's impossible to say how quickly the deterioration will progress; I simply don't know how long I'll be able to continue working the way I know.
Knowing there's a day waiting for me in the future when I'll have to stop or change the way I work is scary, but it's a wonderful motivator and I don't think I've ever been so productive with my drawing ideas. The urge to explore the world my cool robots inhabit has never been so strong. I've always enjoyed my work but since learning about my eye condition I appreciate each brush stroke in a way I never have before.
The diagnosis left me feeling pretty low for a while but really it was just a reminder to savor the moment and enjoy the wonders that are all around us. I think that's the message my robots have been trying to send all along.
A crowdfunding campaign for Transmissions 3, my new collection of colorful drawings, is in progress.

Beautiful and somehow poignant in a way. Kind of reminds me of Wall-E alone in a way...
Aaww, hope it was a good thought (the globe ontop usually signifies a thought). Cute
My favorite one. His little lopsided grin makes him look so childlike.
Matt, How delightful your robots are, I love them. Thank you for sharing them with us. Have you ever thought of making a series of children's books about them? I really think children would love them Grandma Char
These little robots scratch at my heart. Each tells a story, if only we would see and hear it. Thank you!

Load More Replies...These had me thinking if I'm human or a lonely robot pretending to be human?
I TOTALLY feel you on this one... I was thinking, "but that's what it feels like to be human sometimes"

Load More Replies...Those are really good. You are very creative. Keep it up, you have a good thing going. And if people don't appreciate it that is their loss.
I love your work so much. It's very touching and beautifully done. <3
I'm not exactly sure why, but these to me feel related to autism. Now, I am a person with Autism, and in no way am I trying to throw a blanket over the Autism spectrum and call it one thing, but I can actually relate to these little bots and where they are. Thanks for sharing your talent with the world! ^-^
Hello. Your paintings are just amazing. It SO sucks, that someone with your talent has such illness. Stupid moronic fate or whoever is responsible for that. You definitely should paint as much as possible till you can, you have both incredible fantasy and technique. I wish you well and look forward to see more art from you.
Hey ! I like your style so much ! Keep doing ! Its so pretty ! Love , Panda 🐼
I got your first 2 books last year. Great stuff. You and Brian Despain should do a teamup on a project.
That would be a lot of fun Johnny! I love Brian's work.
Load More Replies...You really nailed the textures and the lighting. Nice job on the emotions played as well!
One could make a game with this art style. It does keep reminding me of one called Glitch, a now-shut-down desktop game that I still miss playing even today.
Matt you should consider also adding them to Society6 while stickers and posters are fun, they have so many other options like tote bags and cushions and doona covers, I would love to have one of your pieces that was something I could really use and enjoy....something to consider maybe unless you already do that ?
Thanks Sasy. A few of my robots are available on RedBubble, a similar site - http://www.redbubble.com/people/mattdixonart/collections/433005-robots?asc=u

These are wonderful! It would be a shame for you to lose your vision. Doctors aren't the only way to look at it. We have the ability to heal ourselves. We are very powerful beings. Shhhhh, they don't want us to know.
These are so clever, but a bit sad too. Sad in his (or her) loneliness...
