They’re made from recycled outdoor/garden globes by Maria Elena, a Rome-based Italian astrophysicist, and no two moon globes are the same as each one is decorated by hand using non-toxic paint. As well as the moon globe lamp, there are several planets to choose from, including Jupiter, Neptune, and Mars, and Maria Elena paints them using scientific pictures as a reference to ensure that the craters and depressions are as close to the real thing as possible. “Every moon has six layers, each to give a different effect,” Maria Elena told Bored Panda. “To make one moon takes about 4-6 hours of work”

“For the planet, it takes longer because there are more layers and, in some places, the color is very thick so it dries very slowly”
