These Moon And Planet Lamps Will Make Your Room Look Out Of This World

Few of us will ever have the chance to visit outer space, but that doesn’t mean we can’t bring space to our room decor! And what better way to do that than with these beautiful planet and moon lamps by Pulsar Moonlight, available to purchase on Etsy.

They’re made from recycled outdoor/garden globes by Maria Elena, a Rome-based Italian astrophysicist, and no two moon globes are the same as each one is decorated by hand using non-toxic paint. As well as the moon globe lamp, there are several planets to choose from, including Jupiter, Neptune, and Mars, and Maria Elena paints them using scientific pictures as a reference to ensure that the craters and depressions are as close to the real thing as possible. So if you’re looking for a unique home decor piece that’s truly out of this world, Pulsar Moonlight has just the thing. Would you like to have a moon map of your own as a source of mellow room lighting? We sure would!

More info: Etsy

“Every moon has six layers, each to give a different effect,” Maria Elena told Bored Panda. “To make one moon takes about 4-6 hours of work”

“For the planet, it takes longer because there are more layers and, in some places, the color is very thick so it dries very slowly”

“I use outdoor/garden globes (recycled or upcycled), that I hand-paint with atoxic materials using scientific pictures as a reference”

“NASA often releases new images, so I have to study them and change my paintings according to new discoveries”

“It’s like the real moon you see up in the sky: you can tell the depressions, the craters, etc”

Maria Elena says she came up with the idea when looking for ways to raise money for animal charities

“Until now (I started 2 years ago), every single penny I earned went to charity”

“I try to help any kind of animal, but, so far, I rescued only dogs and cats”

“At the moment I live with 8 adult cats”

“Every day, before painting, I do my yoga practice, to give to the moon a good vibe and energy”

“As an astrophysicist I am quite rational, but I believe that…people can feel I have put my best efforts to give them something positive that can spread joy and peace”

I'm actually surprised at how reasonable the price is on them. $70-100.

Just use the old glass globe off of your broken ceiling fan that you already tossed into the land fill and start painting, pretty easy because I've done it. Materials cost less than $10.00, painting was the only time consuming part of it and I enjoyed that. Labor is rarely ever covered in the cost of artwork or no one would be able to afford it.
