Person Asks A Question “What Modern Trend Do You Absolutely Hate?”, And 30 People Online Deliver
It is considered that criticizing modernity is the business of boomers. Older people, for example, are well aware that in the past, films were way more interesting, friendships were stronger, the sky bluer, and in general the whole world was much better than it is now. On the other hand, the modern world could be a tad bit better than it really is.
At the end of the 20th century, many scientists believed that the new one would become the golden age of mankind - and indeed, with the rapid development of technology, medicine, and the growth of total comfort, one could really expect something like that. But in fact, we are now about as far from the "golden age" as we were a quarter of a century ago. But why?
Perhaps the problem is that modernity is full of not-so-comfortable and pleasant trends. For example, recently on the AskReddit community, someone asked the question "What modern trend do you absolutely hate?" The thread went viral, gaining nearly 26K upvotes and over 19.5K comments in just a few days. It turned out that a variety of people, both old and young, are dissatisfied with many things in the world that surrounds us now.
Bored Panda has compiled for you a selection of the most interesting and thought-provoking opinions from this viral thread. So feel free to scroll to the very end, and be sure to write what you think about it. Perhaps you are also unhappy with something that we missed, in which case we definitely have to know!

Slamming people for things they did 30 years ago. People change. Times change.
The normalization of ignorance.
Many believe that the opinion of someone with no knowledge or background is as valid as someone who has studied and has gained expertise.
Climate change, vaccine effectiveness, etc etc etc.
Companies with Facebook pages as their "website"
GOD, I hate this. I do everything I can to NOT use Facebook. There are lots of places to get free or cheap websites. Having a Facebook page instead makes me automatically not want to do business with you.
All controls in a car being through a touch screen.
For driving safety I wanna keep my eyes on the road, and want to find controls (like window wipers, radio (OK in car audio podcast)) by touch. With a touch screen I have to look to see if I am touching the right place on screen for the control I want to frob.
Moving the HVAC controls to the screen is just dangerous. Especially the idiotic way VW have done it. My wife has a modern car and while it does have a touchscreen, primary functions can be controlled via the steering wheel buttons and the HVAC controls are dials and buttons
The abundance of people trying to be influencers/streamers, while the majority of them are about as interesting as a boil
All I know are the YouTubers, I could care less about a tiktoker or instagrammer
Blaming whole generations for everything.
I'm a millenial. My mom a boomer but is as poor as dirt, don't even own a house. My youngest cousin are gen Z. Oldest are Gen X.
None of this is our fault. We're all in this s**t together. We're all struggling.
The fact that EVERYTHING is a f*****g ad.
Using mental health issues as an excuse for s**tty behavior, especially when it’s a self-diagnosis.
Everything being smart. I don’t need my fridge and toaster and f*****g door locks connected to the internet, especially if I have to get up to use the thing anyway.
Those stupid f*****g reaction videos where someone is pointing at another video and nodding their head or over emphasizing their facial expressions. It drives me nuts. How pathetic do you have to be
The ones that do analysis with thought-provoking commentary can be interesting. But I've seen ones where obviously the person just wants to try to monetize on someone else's video. There's one channel where it's just 2 guys, clearly stoned af, watching South Park clips and laughing a bit.
That sounds incredibly boring to do, much less watch.
Load More Replies...Me personally i don't mind them. Some youtubers may point something out that you might of missed on certain reactions
Have you watched reaction vids to Disturbed - The Sound of Silence. Careful, could get you in a 5 hour rabbit hole.
The "acting" challenge ones too. Look, idc how many ways you can say no!
The problem are not the creators, it's the viewers who prefer to watch reactions. Tbh in times of lockdown it was quiet soothing to have someone else watching stuff with you to not feel so alone.
Most of the time I feel like it's the second persons way of getting attention - if a person really wants to draw attention to the original video, all they have to do is record a blank wall or cover the camera or something so they don't distract from the message of the original creator. The ones where the people are filming their reaction and not adding to the video in any way, I usually try to click through to the original and interact with it.
I see this more and more with those annoying reels on Instagram.
For real, "what do you do for work?" " I make videos of myself watching videos other people made"
YES. There are some that have a point; there's a group of black men who analyze comedians and social commenter interviews and talk about them from a racial point of view and what they feel is really just funny and what is offensive. That has a point. Or I've seen some musician ones...people reacting to listening to a certain song or guitar riff/drummer for the first time and maybe even trying to replicate it. But I saw one yesterday of someone literally just nodding her head to someone putting on makeup. Like...why???
i watch s**t on TV and yell and cuss at it all the time. maybe if i had recorded it and stuck it on youtube with a dorky looking thumbnail, i could have retired by now.
Ugh, that and people who are purposefully annoying or obnoxious and then film themselves being "treated badly" to garner sympathy. Ummm...b***h, you threw yourself on the floor in the middle of Costco and had a tantrum, of course you're gonna get treated like a grown-a*s woman who threw herself on the floor in Costco and had a tantrum!
I HATE that modern news is no longer just a informational source of what is happening. It’s turned into a talk show. News networks only cast people who have loud personalities and lean VERY hard one way politically. They only cast people to make the news more popular by finding cast that make you think “I wish I could hand out with them”.
NEWS NEEDS TO BE A NEUTRAL PLACE TO GATHER INFORMATION TO MAKE A DECISION FOR YOURSELF. It’s not the f*****g Wendy Williams Show. We don’t care how the anchor feels about it. WE WANT FACTS AND NEUTRAL INFORMATION!
*Edit after having a lot of good conversations with y’all-* I wish the consumers of news wanted more straight forward facts and non-bias information. I know that news networks love the views, but it seems to be more entertainment than news.
Puffy fake lips
As a dental hygienist, I do oral cancer screenings and part of that is palpating the lips- augmented lips feel very different from natural lips, not in a good way. Natural lips are consistent in feel with no discernible lumps, and should be soft, elastic and slightly firm. Augmented lips actually feel like there is a hard rope running inside the length of the lip or tiny pearls deep inside when you palpate them (depending on how they're augmented). It's not pleasant to feel- I always wonder how it must feel to kiss someone with that.
Clickbait titles
"news" agencies writing articles about "all these people are saying X" when it's just a few random people on twitter, and generally the trend of amplifying fringe theories, beliefs, conspiracies, etc.
Literally anything software wise I purchase I don’t even f*****g own. If I buy a piece of software and hardware, I should be allowed to edit AND OWN it to my hearts content.
It’s my property so I should be allowed to do what I will with it
Even cars are going subscription model. BMW calls it “Functions on Demand”. If you want heated seats, you can pay for a subscription. You can subscribe from a month, a few years or unlimited. Though I’m pretty sure when someone buys that car second hand again, an unlimited subscription won’t be transferred to the new owner… they will have to buy unlimited again. Just like how Tesla has been deactivating the Ludicrous package from the previous owner so that the next person has to pay again.
Everything becoming monetized and for profit. Every hobby, every social media account, everything imaginable.
Patreon this, indigogo that...
Hustle culture is the s**ttiest, most burnout inducing mindset a person could have
You have to hustle! You're sleeping at 3am? WEAK...The Rock is up at 2am. You're having lunch at 1pm? HAHA...you're wasting time to grind. You're cooking dinner with your wife at 6pm? PATHETIC...the only grind you're doing is the pepper shaker. You're trying to get 8hrs of sleep? NO WONDER YOU'RE NOT ME...I hire people to sleep for me.
Giving out more personal info than necessary...
Every online account wants my phone number, email, gender, full name, address, marital status etc.
I want to download an app and it wants access to everything. The app can take a picture, now i want access to your complete gallery, contact list and call history.
I go to a physical store to buy a computer and they want my zip code.
I call customer service and they will record the conversation. Not even optional....
I stopped giving my email and phone numbers out to retail staff after learning Canada's Michael's rewards are non-existent. We're not collecting points nor are we able to use them. It's been a few years and staff still don't know when or if we're getting rewards for Michael's arts and crafts. But they still ask for your email address with every purchase. I just say I'm not bothering anymore. Recordings for customer service is only really for training purposes. When new hires are being trained the managers will show examples from real calls (edited to leave out the person's identity of course) and will use good and bad ones. It's also to ensure the reps are doing their job and if there's any discrepancy they have the recording to refer to. Call centres are not distributing these recordings to other 3rd party companies unless it's a client and there's a legal warrant in obtaining that recording. That's all.
**"We need to normalize [X]"** when X is something completely trivial and irrelevant, like going to the movies alone.
Whatever the *majority* of people does will be considered normal, deviations from it are what's outside the norm. If you need everything you want to do outside the norm to be "normalized", that's a you problem, not a society problem.
People don't care. Just do your thing. People *really* don't care. And if some do, they're just random strangers, so *you* shouldn't care.
People using their phone at concerts to record/take pictures. Seems like it is everyone all the time. Takes me out of the moment and sight lines are bad enough without everyone holding their phone over their head.
Apart from taking a picture of yourself or friends, when are you ever going to either watch that video or picture again? Like really? I remember recording fireworks once way back and I've literally never watched it.
Politics being someone's entire identity. I'm plenty old enough to remember being good friends with people and having no idea how they felt about political issues or for whom they voted - it just never came up.
I grew up in a very small Florida town. The poll workers would tell anyone who would listen what political party you were. Less than 10% were not Republicans. My family was part of that 10% and we were confronted by it day after day. I heard about JFK's assassination from a classmate as I was walking home. " YAY, Kennedy is dead." We were 7.
Closed mindedness to the point of foolishness and constantly wanting to right fight on social media.
Social Media umbrella and what it's doing to this and future generations.
Just off the top of my head:
* Ignorant echo chambers
* The desperation of attention or clout
* the views/follows/friends obsession
* False information
* trolling
I'm sure there is more.
* being left out of the loop with friends and basically everyone cause you’re not allowed to have social media so u just sit there when they talk about stuff you don’t understand
When people get into fights with their SO and blast it all over their socials. No one cares that Brad cheated on you… pls get a life
anti right to repair. data collection. non-open source software (although some software is getting more open)
Even when you invent something and try to make it open source to share it, some company may well try to patent it out from under you.
Everything is done for profit. You cant find amateur YouTube videos anymore. You know those 30 second-2 minute YouTube videos from 12 years ago titled “guy does…” or “dog wants..” that were in 480p and have 8 million views? Type in anything like that now. All you get is “top 10” videos made by studios that aren’t entertaining in the slightest
Monetization not creation. I have no problem making money of your content but content needs to be first. You deserve the money for good content.
Hypocritical celebs and famous people who preach about the environment or poverty when some of them are constantly using private jets or come from very wealthy backgrounds.

Load More Replies...pronouns. i am all for pronouns and am totally cool with them and will respect them, but you cannot get mad at someone for not addressing you right the first or second time, especially if you use very out there pronouns like some people do.
We need to shift to a genderless society. Pronouns only tell other to judge/treat us of one way or the other according to sexist stereotypes. Thats why society hate androgynous people (both in person or online without pronouns). Its because they dont know how to treat you if they dont know your gender.
Load More Replies...People who record themselves doing good deeds. I hate it...it is so self-serving. If you want to help some one, just help them. The whole world doesn't need to know so they can tell you how wonderful you are.
Scoffing/judging/sneering/laughing/playing ignorance towards people who either prefer or need to do things "the old fashioned way", such as calling someone on their phone without texting, or refusing to rely so heavily on the internet and technology. Which brings up another thing that's wrong. Making people pay for cards for making payments, like our city's transit Pego cards. $5 to buy the card, and then you have to load money onto the card. If you lose the card I think the replacements cost more.
OK well in a country like ours with a high crime rate, not having to carry cash is super useful. Cash is used here a LOT for crime and bribes etc are paid cash, so if they eliminated cash I'd be happy. Google "cash in transit heist south africa" if you want to see. The blow the vans up, collect the cash, and run. It's garbage. Digital payments.

Sexist feminists calling out men for mansplaining, manspreading, 'The Future is Female' and all the other c**p they come up with to insult and demean men.
One of the things that makes me saddest is that it seems like people are not willing or able to have a civilized discussion anymore. So many people can only respond with quips, sneers, mockery, sarcasm, derision, scoffing, or just abuse to anything they don't agree with. People become so sensitive to any idea that differs from their own, that they take it as criticism or an attack on their beliefs, or worse, a personal attack on them as an individual. People are defensive, easily offended, and yet find it so easy to purposefully offend others. There's no civility in discourse anymore, no give and take, no reaching for common ground. Now, it's all about digging in, taking a stand, and defending our intellectual territory.

His name is Bouche, pronounced boosh. I just ordered his starter things. Two litter boxes/scoopers, a cute little food dish, a fountain, a tunnel, a pack of chasing toys, a wand, and a climbing tree. 😸😸😸
I bet you can't tell anyone exactly what a "boomer" is because you don't know.
