Mister Global Contestants Dress In Their National Costumes And Look Like Video Game Bosses
Recently, Mister Global, a male beauty pageant took place in Thailand. The event was founded in 2014 and since its first edition over 60 countries have sent their representatives to compete for the Mister Global Title. This year, 38 beautiful men decided to test their strengths in the pageant. The final was held in Bangkok on September 26 with the “Inspiring Gentleman” theme. However, this event is not merely a beauty contest, even though one of the main requirements of contestants is to be 'good looking' as the spokesperson of the pageant, Kitti Kamjunsa, told Bored Panda. "The aim of Mister Global is to promote environmental awareness, and we have been promoting this cause ever since we started in 2014. This year, we added a new motto "Inspiring Gentleman" because we believe that the contestants and titleholders should motivate others and be inspirational people. During this year's pageant, we did a fundraising event to support an organization that takes care of elephants in Thailand and it was successful, " Kamjunsa said. When asked what makes Mister Global different from other pageants the spokesperson explained: "Basically every pageant system is identical but what makes Mister Global different from the others is that we are part of the Top 5 Grand Slam Male Pageants. We have good quality contestants with inspiring stories to tell and great support from our national directors from around the world. We have also garnered much support from our many fans that follow us on our website and the official page. Most importantly, we are true on our advocacy of Environmental Awareness and charity cause."
The pageant was won by Korea‘s Jong Woo Kim, who is a 23-year-old police administration student and model. Jong Woo Kim is set to become an inspirational role model for young men all around the world. He will also become a Global Goodwill Ambassador and participate in environmental and charitable projects.
Same as every year, the most attention goes to pageant's national outfits showcase. After all, the representatives get the chance to demonstrate their countries heritage. "For us, we are really surprised that it went viral around the world and we welcome many positive comments. However, the creative costumes segment is nothing new in any pageant system as it has always been a part of it. The winning costume is not about the size or design but the story and culture behind it," Kamjunsa said. The national costume contest was won by Myanmar, it's safe to say that most of the contestants made their homelands' proud by rocking well crafted and intricate costumes. Right - for those have who their knickers in a twist saying that it's wrong to have a Boer dressed as a Zulu... he's not. I can see at least seven different cultures represented by what that guy is wearing. It's actually a pretty smart way to incorporate just about everyone who lives in South Africa in one image.

His costume looks very functional. It's not as extravagant as the others, but looks like something he'll get a lot of use from. It's like I'm looking in a book about his country and see this pic.

What does he back look like? His dress looks very functional. Has a farmer ring to it.

Nice Lion costume. I like that they kept the Lion Head simple-ish and not overly flashy/inlaid with decorative horns/jewels/eyelashes so as not to overshadow the human.

Honestly, as a Puerto Rican. I think they did macrame but not with rope like that, and I also feel they got lazy with this. If this costume was made for like a contest. Lord forgive me, but its f*****g terrible. And im kinda annoyed 😅

While superman may be "native" to USA (its "birth" country) it is not "native" in the same way that all the other costumes are. I feel that using an indian (as in native american) would've been a much better choice.
Superman was designed in Canada by a Canadian artist. His creator didn't go to the States until years after the character was done. That is one EXTREMELY tacky costume. You'd think they could at least hide the stitching...and pick a model who could fill it out properly.
Load More Replies...Nonono I hate this. Should have chosen cowboy, early settlers or native american.
I assumed he made it himself. Or maybe his mother did.
Load More Replies...One man... saving the entire world from everything! The more I think about it, the more the dark joke makes sense.
Load More Replies...This must be a joke left till the very end. I thought all the others so fascinating. But I didn't know whether to laugh or get angry at the USA one . Especially since it was a Canadian who wrote the first Super Man. They should have just left USA out, just like they left Canada out.
If Superman was wearing a hat, that would have been Canada.
Load More Replies...I can't stop giggling at this! These were all so normal until..... Superman! Hahaha!!!
They were all so "normal"??? Really? There's nothing "normal" about any of these costumes. They're all fantastic, exaggerated, and way over the top. The Superman one just put perspective on everyone else. These costumes are not accurate representations of national dress - they are ridiculous parodies and the inclusion of Superman (half American/half Canadian) only proves that.
Load More Replies...I was going to poke fun at Mr. Sweden (and still think it's hysterical) but then I scrolled to Mr. USA. Ugh.
Seriously? I dont even know where to start with this ridiculous get up. The dude looks like hes going to comic-con with his home made costume. If this is what Americans think "cultural representation" means then thats pretty sad. At worst he should have picked Captain America. SMH
Well it's not entirely his fault! Everyone else has had hundreds if not thousands of generations behind them of a culture that has been around for thousands of years... And then there's the United States of America. We either have Cowboys or Native Americans and we can't wear Native American clothes because it'd be offensive to the surviving tribes if the person wearing it doesn't have Native American blood! We have cowboys like I said, but that's such a stereotype that I also don't blame anyone who doesn't want to wear it. What else do we have? Revolutionary war? Uh, civil war? Pilgrims?! Honestly, it feels like the Native Costume category is ALWAYS stacked against us because as a society, America grew up too fast but at the same time is still trying to atone for the past. That doesn't mean I'm not getting sick of the Super Hero costume though...
Load More Replies...WTAF? So much potential for indigenous traditional costume and you do this. SMH
Unless he was Indigenous, it would not be appropriate to wear Indigenous clothing from any Nation. Also, many Indigenous people do not identify as US citizens because their nations predate the US and their lands were stolen from them.
Load More Replies...All countries use their national regalia, the USA uses a comic strip character invented in Canada. 🙄
wtf? Why is he dressed like Superman? That's not a native costume... SMH
You're shaking your head because he's not dressed up like one of several different historical choices they could've made? Why did it have to be native? I think that would've been dumb because a wild west cowboy represents America, whereas native head dress would represent natives only.
Load More Replies...Unless you actually are part of a Native American tribe, you should NOT wear traditional native clothing without express permission of the tribe (cheesy Halloween costumes notwithstanding).
Load More Replies...Why would you dress everyone in their native costumes and then make fun of the US? This is a slap on the face. Shame.
Because the US has no native costumes except those from Native Americans, and the US made a very good job at destroying their culture.
Load More Replies...Idk if I have seen many Native Americans wearing Superman costumes. I think a traditional Native American outfit or Hawaiian American outift would have been a better choice.
Not really... He's representing the USA not North America.... Natives aren't even fully part of the USA... Why would he dress native lol. He should have done a colonial like our forefathers or a cowboy or something
Load More Replies...Worst Superman costume ever. Come on, steam the damn cape at least.
I was totally digging most of these pics... some of the outfits are really exquisite... then I realized that it was all just wind up for this punch line.
If we are going with superheros then it should have been Captain America!
Hahaha. What the hell man! Much Better if you wearing spiderman suit.
I agree with folks who list cowboy as an appropriate costume for this contestant, especially as the cowboy came from the vaquero, and this gent would fit both nicely. Could've been jeans, chaps, boots neckerchief and cowboy hat... I think that would've held its own with Sri Lanka and Mexico! index-5d94...6aa3cb.jpg
Actually this represents native USA - fake cheap costume that has nothing to do with culture, a pretty good metaphor if you ask me.
Puerto Rico and USA are in the bottom two in the sewing competition. USA sashay away.
Like so many other "American" things, Superman was a Canadian idea first, but needed to go to the USA to get the exposure and recognition it eventually received. Also like so many other "American" and "Canadian" things - the joint effort only made the end result much better. Superman is not "American" and not "Canadian" - Superman is both.
Not only is the costume ridiculous, but it's so poorly made? Did he just go to any Halloween shop and get cheapest costume he could find?
How is that a national costume? A good pair of jeans would be more iconic surely?
They really had some guy dress up as Superman to represent America when Native American tribes have so many breathtaking garments
I mean, Native American tribes aren't a part of the USA, and seeing they didn't create the USA (they actually fought against it), it would make zero sense to have a Native American represent the USA
Load More Replies...I was wondering how they would f**k this up. When I think of something that is typically "USA" I think either Cowboy or Native American Indian, not Superman.
I’ll have you know his Mommy was up all night putting the finishing touches on his costume, so if you bullies don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all, neh, neh, neh! 👅
This just emphasizes the fact that our country has become a joke...especially after the last election.
The real joke is how upset people got after the last election, as if their whole world came undone.
Load More Replies...Most of these costumes aren't national dress, they're fancy dress based on national themes. Thailand and Sri lanka appear to be wearing temples rather than clothes. Doesn't stop them from looking cool although Sweden, Switzerland, and USA compare pretty poorly to the rest.
Jesus even a full military outfit would have been a better representation than this $20 Halloween costume of a Canadian superhero. They didn't even iron the cape!!
Maybe if we downvote this USA entry enough then Bored Panda will remove it. Poor guy though.
I don’t feel bad for him he should have refused this.
Load More Replies...*facepalm* Superman? That's the best we could do? I guess its better than an obese man in I'll fitting stained clothing most people think we look like. But really? Superman? Ugh.
A better representation would have been Hawaiian shirt, 3/4 cargo pants, socks that go half way up the shin, sandals & a f***y pack
What a shame. A native american in all it's gorgeous glory should be representing our nation!
Well... I guess Cuba, Sweden and Switzerland aren't so bad after all... -_-
Superman isn't even of this world I feel this was a poor choice 😂
all of these creative, clever, badass and quality made costumes, and then there is mr america wearing a s****y halloween costume
Why do we even bother showing up for these contests if we can't come up with anything good? We had a f*****g Transformer one year and now this? Are you serious?? Wd could've had s cowboy costume, we could've had traditional Native American wear, but we went with this s**t? We just look even dumber now.
This has to be a joke... That's the most hideous Superman costume I have ever seen.
I'd have gone with a dapper Prohibition era gangster-like suit. OR a Colonial Army uniform. Or a Native American outfit but only if the guy has Native blood. OR a made up outfit representing all the cultures this country is made of. Not this. Surprised he didn't go with Captain America. At least Steve was born here. Clark wasn't.
I would have thought they would have used a military uniform. That is how the world knows the US.
wtf? He isn't real! A cowboy would have been believable at least.
Please tell me that they're joking with this?? Usa is not Superman. Hell, look into why Superman was created, or the origins of his earth home metropolis for Christ's sake. A representation of Native American culture would have been a far better choice than this slap in the face lazy spandex flag strapped to some ken doll. Gross. Shame on those who did this.
omg , seriously !!!! Lmao , I’m embarrassed and I’m not even American. What about your Native American Indian.
No. This is not cool. Completely disagree with a superhero to be used for America when other countries get to use their traditional garb. What bs
He’s a very handsome man, but I don’t understand why Superman is “traditional” dress for USA.
I thought Switzerland was bad. This DC comic costume is not representative of the US historical culture. This is the worst on the list. I think even worse than Cuba!
Kal-El was an illegal alien whose origin and background was hidden by his adoptive Kansas parents. That being said, I'd love to see the comic where ICE tries to take him away from the Kents and put him in a cage.
Superman is technically an immigrant..albeit from another planet. Makes sense in a weird sort of way.. though, I think Captain America would've made more sense.
I had a feeling USA would be a letdown. All these men looked like warriors and...this guy is Hollywood.
Why didn’t he do CAPTAIN AMERICA (dah) ! He did the wrong superhero (oh well) The Superman costume designed above is beyond outdated. The modern-day Man of Steel is much different. Unless the contestant is Native American, don’t attempt it — disrespectful! If a contestant was seeking something easy and inexpensive, then ROCKY would have been inexpensive and All-American too. Evel Knievel — Elvis Presley — Uncle Sam is all American. As a pageant extraordinaire, I would personally invest the money for an elaborate costume for Evel Knievel and rolled in on a motor cycle onto the stage.(first impression is always a lasting impression in the world of competition). Mardi Gras is American & can be combined w/ Philadelphia Mummers Fancy Brigade style costumes —> they look like Carnival/Brazil costumes).
should have gone with either colonial dress or old west. native american would have been about as tasteless as this one.
you know what, superman costume. fine. but wtf is this party city rental piece of s**t costume.
omg.... that is just... bad.... and the costume does not even fit him well...does not do him justice...and I thought the one from Brazil was quite wrongly chosen...
Native American or even a cowboy would have been better than this. How about the business suit?
ok... if you are gonna use a comic super hero to represent America, wouldn't Captain America have made a ton more sense? lol
There is no culture in the US. The US borrows, takes or steals from every other culture and claims it as its own. Superman is the best they could do. As if he is so iconic to this country.
You totally forgot about Bulgaria- one of the oldest and greatest costumes you ma ever seen.
I live in the US, in a state with a large number of American Indians, and it is a HUGE faux pas and VERY disrespectful for a non-tribal member to wear wear a tribal costume. Most of the costumes/headdresses are affiliated with religious ceremonies - it would be like an Italian walking around in Catholic vestments - this guy made the right move!!!!
This is completely ridiculous when you compare the topic with all of the other guys. Maybe he was afraid of being criticized for "cultural appropriation" by the whiny politically correct Americans if he had dressed like any of the Natives, but hey, then he could have dressed as an old west cowboy and that would have been perfect. But Superman? The extraterrestrial naturalized individual? That doesn't even represent how the USA is treating immigrants these days...
seriously...all the indigenous cultures in North American (US) and THIS is what is you shoot?!
LOLOL....Superman was created by Canadians!!! What a maroon and an embarrassment compared the dignity and respect the other nations showed to their native population and heritage.
I was dreading what they would do for the USA -- I thought it would be a cowboy. Never thought they would go with a cartoon, but considering the clown we have in the White House now, this is appropriate. FYI, Superman is from another planet, but, whatever.
Wtf?! 🤣 I'm from the US. This looks ridiculous and I can't believe an American would choose this to represent our country. I can totally see someone who's never been to the US choose this, but they'd have to be no older than 5.
You can depend on good ol Amrca to ruin everything with DC. MARVEL IS BETTTTTTEEEERRRRR
Who tf in America considers this their native attire?? This might be native for kriptonians from kripton but NOT Americans yall
Like ALL the other ones were actual ones why tf did USA do Superman? F**k dress like a cowboy or something geez.
Not only is this a c**p choice, it also looks like his Mam made it at the last minute. Like the night before the pageant he told her he needed some kind of American costume and she went with this.
comments are outrageously funny. Definitely made my day. Thank you USA!
Wow. The most unoriginal costume of all. He probably bought that at Party City. What a disappointment. Seeing all the other countries in their gorgeous costumes made me excited to see USA. Not sure why I am surprised...
I was thinking we would've seen something like what a soldier would have worn in 18th century America. You know George Washington era? To me that would have symbolized America. You could argue Native American dress but that largely differs from region to region. In the end to dress as a native American without being native American in this day and age with all these bleeding hearts. Would have been considered insensitive or racist. 🙄 But to dress as a slodier as many of these countries costumes dipict wariors would have been tasteful. As well as represent the America that many nationalities died for wearing a colonial army uniform.
I am disappointed in the USA. Even though it's my home country, I do not support this outfit.
Ok at first I was like God Damm! Then I was like oh atleast Mr Sweden is cute 🤷🏽♂️. But the I got to the end, Mr USA, what the f**k? It’s not even a sexy version of the costume 🤦🏽♂️ he could have dress as a colonial or as a sexy George Washington, something anything would have been better
Superman rather than a native Indian outfit!? Just shows how USA is so fake. Stripping real culture & putting fiction in place of it
OMG...I'm cracking up because I just saw Cuba's ridiculous costume, and someone said, "Wait till you see USA."
Why not be Captain America instead 🙄🙄 maybe he’s going to that Hallowe’en after party soon after?? 🤭🤭
Terrible and irrelevant. Should have been a Majestic Native American.
A fictional alien is a weird - and kinda stupid choice....in comparison to the others.
This feels kinda pathetic and weird in comparison to the others which celebratevulture - to just use the costume of a fictional alien - is weird.
USA this is absolutely terrible, they should be ashamed! Superman whom ever use this was should have been fired
Wtf HAHAHAHAHA I came here just for this and was not disappointed 😂
I’m pretty sure he didn’t dress as a Native American for cultural appropriation reasons but he could have done a pioneer outfit or something early colonial
The first people were the Indians. The second were coming back and forth long before the Europeans came over. They owned part of this country. They were the Mexicans.
Kay, why does Canada not have a Mister World? Though, we would be the same with Native male, but still different country, and we'd have a way best costume! Traditional to Native Canadian/American.
Superman was created by a Canadian NOT an american. So his "birth" country is Canada!
If he used a Native American dress he’d be accused of cultural appropriation.
Superman was actually created by Canadian Joe Shoester and readopted to be American after originally being Canadian. I agree with BlackedtDawn, which would also be a super slick superhero name.
Oh face palm. This is terrible. A true Native American/ First Nation would have been so much better!
A Native American costume would have been inappropriate for a white guy. However, as other countries were looking to historical costuming, the designer could have pulled ideas from the Colonial period or Western dress. Even a well tailored "Mad Men" type suit would be better.
It's a shame USA's costume is ill fitting. Superman is an odd choice, since he's an UNDOCUMENTED ALIEN.
If they wanted an authentic traditional American dress they would have been better to go with Wild West cowboy or Plains Rider, not a darn comic book character. How embarrassing. Not to me tion the cape looks like it was just pulled out oif a Halloween costume bag and the "s" shield... let's just say that stitching is atrocious. I feel bad for the young man who had to put this on.
If they wanted to encapsulate the "traditional spirit" of America they should gave gone with a Wild West cowboy, not a flipping comic character. How embarrassing.
Who forgot to IRON Superman's cape?!?! Horrible idea, then you have to further mess things up by giving him a wrinkled cape. meh...we have an idiot in charge, so who cares?
xD When all the countries but Switzerland use their native costumes.... comes US.
Superman come from Outside the earth right? so what is the message here?
We are such a melting pot it would have been difficult to think of one distinct costume . As for the native American comments same goes for that . There were / are so many different tribes with their own dress andtraditions it would have been difficult to go with 1 to represent west to east coast Also why not cap'n America lol
I can see why they didn’t use a native american costume. Superman is not offensive to anyone.
I think they did this one purpose to make the USA look foolish. Shame!
This is more like a pijama than a "native" costume... :( I feel bad for Sups... I was spec-ting something like the photo I uploaded. 1507506893...d2608f.jpg
As an American, I'm actually offended by the "USA" costume. Super tacky.. .does not reflect traditional American clothing (if Native American, then could go with a traditional tribal outfit, if not, then many other choices: Pilgrim, early colonies, Cowboy/western, etc.)... plus Puerto Rico IS PART OF the USA. It is NOT a different country.
I am so ashamed at having to downvote my own country. Then again I've been doing that in general lately. This is like a Party City costume. Come on.
Why didn't they choose a native American tribesman to represent the USA.?
I looked at his profile briefly; he appears to be Latino (his last name is Cruz). There are so many other things he could have done. Maybe not Native American, since he isn't, but there must have been other ideas, surely.
Maybe a fearless leader like a Native American Chief or Warrior would have represented the US better. Why did they chose a fictitious character over America's history and beginnings? Before the US had politicians and before it was founded by settlers, it belonged to its native people; their population is currently a little bit above 2% of the population of the US. Instead of dressing USA in traditional Native American outfits, the stylist dressed him as a comic book character.
This is the worst choice they could have made. It's not even well made! Why are the seams showing!? Why does it look like a cheap Walmart costume!?
USA is a melting pot so no traditional costume per say. Feel bad for him. Little ridiculous. He couldn't go Native American unless he is Native American. It would be racially insensitive.
i want to slap him! its not a cost play activity, i think he didn't informed about that event
Aaaaand I'm not surprised that my country went with a Super Hero Theme instead of a Cowboy theme.... Or something. -w-;;
What the f**k is Cuba doing....and then I see USA.....*hangs my head*...my apologies Cuba....really US? I know we really dont have any traditional clothing...but a superman costume? A nice tailored suit would have been wayyyyy better...but a grown man in a cheap superman halloween costume...smdh
Oh paleeeeeese! Superman? Is that the best they can do? Shows where their thinking is at I guess.
Superman really? A cowboy would have been a better choice. Superman is not real... 🙄
are you f*****g kidding me?! This is neither traditional nor american. Superman was created by a Canadian and sold to DC Comics.
Whose brilliant F****n' idea was this?! I am American and I do not approve this message :(
As an American, I feel let down... Even South Africa tried to incorporate multiple heritage items... seriously...a comic book hero?
im from the USA and this is a missed opportunity and incredibly disappointing. should've had traditional indigenous American tribes represented and for colonial times white immigrants had a distinct style. not to mention the clothing African slaves made for themselves... just saying. there's a lot of interesting clothing here from our beginning even though we aren't a homogenous country. plus superman may be from Kansas but his outfit is Kryptonian. so much wrong with this on multiple levels lol.
I was so expecting a modern cowboy. "Inspiring gentleman"? You know, the guys who say "yes, ma'am!" and tip their hat when you walk by?
did some of these guys make the outfit themselves? some of these look like broadway budget shows and some look like Halloween on my street. :|
This one was not a great choice. Why wasn't there a native American in full dress? 500 years back for others, 60 years back for US?!
Are you serious? Next to the rest of the world, this USA costume looks like a joke.. hes hot though! I wonder what England would've looked like?
The vast majority of Americans are immigrants.
Load More Replies...Superman got too many downvotes. How dare you all did that guys. He saves your home, Earth. And now, you did this. Very very depressing. 😨😨😨😨😂😂😂😂
An eagle costume would have been better. This is disgraceful. If this was the plan, we should have just entered Ironman!
Seriously! I know our country has much better to offer than this guy. How about a Hot Native American dressed in their traditional garb?!? That would have been much better than a Superman Costume.
this is so awful?? I mean, i don't care if they do natives, cowboys, orange self-tan, but this is so stupid ew
I was waiting to see what the USA would use. I am very glad I scrolled all the way down. This cracks me up. I am kind of sad that it isn't even a well executed superman costume though like it looks like he could have gotten a better one from a Halloween store. I think that Superman is a good choice, considering all the backlash he would have gotten if he would have chosen any single culture that make up the USA and it would have been difficult to incorporate all of them. It could have been done better though.
A native American, a cowboy/farmer, blue jeans and blazer, fancy dress tux. Soooo many ways you could have portrayed "American Culture" or beauty standards for an American male. You missed.
-.- I expected more from the USA. Bits of everything would have worked.... Native American, Southern, Northern, Midwest.... Superman is not USA... I had nothing bad to say about any of these outfits.... Until USA. Now I am ashamed of ever having served in my country's military or even being born here if this is what they choose to dress as.
Is that the worst (and not ironed) Superman costume I've seen till date? Yes, of course..
Wow, what fresh hell is this c**p? Superman??? really?? Since when is Superman outfit a "national costume" for America... Americans already look like f**k knuckles, let's not make it worse by proving it.
all of these badass, quality made costumes, and then there is poor poor mr america,
Really?? Should've had something that showed ALL the different races and cultures that make up america..................this is just embarassing
Indian. There should be a robe of indian tribes. No matter how much americans shout that they are some kind of nation there, they are just a hodgepodge that populated a foreign land, and the destruction of the indians does not negate the fact that America is the land belonging to indians, and the national costume is a mixture of clothes of indian tribes.
Are you kidding me? Come ON! I am from the USA and this is NOT the best we can do! And what IDIOT chose Superman of all the the things they could have chosen?
You know what. It kinda works in a twisted way. Take something that isn't yours (superman originated in Canada or Krypton depending on definition), went to the nearest Walmart on a budget, saw this and thought his catchphrase "truth justice and the american way". The costume is just missing a "made in China" sticker
Its because Americans like to take from other cultures (or comic book characters in this sense) and claim as their "own" and say that they have "discovered it".
I feel so terribly sorry for this guy. If they wanted to go tongue-and-cheek with "costume" representing USA, it would have been smarter to do Captain America, and one without cheap materials and visible stitching (the costume ironically was probably manufactured in China). Otherwise, go cowboy or an over-the-top Victorian bedazzled Railroad Baron with top hat, cane and the whole nine yards. I would have gone full bling bling with this category. For Christ sake he could go Ru Paul Drag Race as Trixie Mattel and STILL be representative of the US!!! xD Those options are far enough removed from current political climate, but not too distant in the past to go full-blown native american or puritan English settler.
Aight this isn't right. Can't we get some native american culture up in here? Their culture is gorgeous and they deserve the recognition.
We are complete idiots. My apologies to the rest of the world. How embarrassing.
Superman isn't even "native" to the USA. The character's creator was Canadian.
After Switzerland I was expecting Rocky 3erd movie version here, not Superman. lol
Being from the USA and knowing how touchy the subject is, I think Superman was a wise choice.
Lmao....wow.....the pic is just comical, the comments are disgusting on both parts. I swear people will fight over anything these days.
I wasn't expecting this... Why not cowboy, or something a la Uncle Sam?
WOW! Underwhelmed here. So many other examples of what USA is that could have been used. So very sorry Mister Global USA.
This is soooo underwhelming! Splurge and get a realistic one for the pageant and take the time to steam the wrinkles out first. What a bootleg knockoff costume! The S wasn't even cut or attached on evenly. He would've been better off just dressing up as a cowboy. 👎👎
I love that the designers for the US, with all the xenophobia in our country right now, picked an imaginary super hero created by a Canadian. I also love that “Superman” was a Jewish illegal alien. So it’s a bit clever, although I feel like they bought his costume from amazon. They could have done much better but they didn’t.
Definitely should have been Native American. People are called that for a reason. NATIVE. AMERICAN.
one of these things is not like the others.... one of these things just doesn't belong....
Native American!!!! R u serious??? This b******t is y trump got elected!!! Omg I was born an hour from the Canadian border in North Dakota. Canada adopt me! Besides that I'm mostly Norwegian. Would happily move there!!! Pathetic is too nice of a word for the great United States of America!!! Now I want to listen to the script song divided states of America
More Trump Derangement Syndrome. You saw a photo of Superman and you thought of the POTUS? You are obsessed. It's weird.
Load More Replies...WHAT A SHAME ! There are total of 38’countries including NORTH CYPRUS. You guys put all 37 exccept NORTH CYPRUS.. shame On you poeple
What a shame!! Its total 38 countries including NORTH CYPRUS - and you guys put all 37 except one! RACIST !
Oh... really? Yes, indigenous style was the brief. Did you miss that?
Oh... I thought the costume representing Egypt was bad. I hadn't seen this yet. Even if the costume itself wasn't horrible, which it is, this is a mid 20th century concoction that was just part of childrens' entertainment until precently. None of the other countries got some contemporary cartoon design here, so why the US? Shouldn't we have something more historical, like from the frontier era? Or even something with Native American elements?
Sad that the USA has no "Cultural" Heritage. We destroyed the Native People and took away there Heritage and never created our own. We are a "Melting" Pot from the rest of the world (who many have forgotten this) so While we do not have a "Single" Identity we have many different Cultures from many different countries all rolled into one. Superman is NOT a Cultural Identity, it's a DC Comic Book Hero.
A frontiersman isn't a cultural costume? Liar. I GUARANTEE if you saw it you'd immediately associate it with that time period from America.
Load More Replies...Could have done the cowboy as mentioned, the Thomas Jefferson, the Daniel Boone.... anything!!!
You can't amalgamate the USA into one costume design. The USA represents all of these costumes on this thread. We're too diverse with cultures/countries. We are not one culture. We have a culture living here, but it tends to underlie peoples native culture/country. America was founded during a rough time at which people fought to keep the land (or stolen, whatever your political thoughts might be on it)......not designing clothes to the extent that other countries spent hundreds of years did, alone. We built a country while they built a culture. The point of the USA is so that those cultures could come here and share it with everyone else.....everyone of different cultures. White Americans are ancestors of the Swedish, British, Irish, etc. Those countries have their own costumes. Same for Hispanics, Africans, Asians, etc, etc. How would you recommend that we create ONE costume design that represents SOOO many? The Native American concept, alone, is idiotic.
Do you imagine all the other nations to be some kind of homogenous paradises? One nation for one ethnicity? Most of the nations represented here are a random hodgepodges of different ethic groups with their own thousand year long traditions. The point is not to pick a costume which represents all traditions equally, but which quintessential belongs to that nation. In the case of America, cowboys for instance, but there are many others.
Load More Replies...Leave it up to the USA to never take anything serious... like at all. Why am I not surprised...
Cuba didn't seem to take it seriously neither. Same with the Swiss.
Load More Replies...Ridiculous! But in a way accurate because U.S.A are always "carrying liberty" to countries that they can explore or smash their pride.
The issue with the US is that it is such a huge country with so many different traditions (and lack of tradition) that you can't settle on one for the costume. Our states are the size of most countries and the cultures can vary as just as much. This is one of the reasons why there is a electoral vote and populate vote. Western wear doesn't represent the new England region, Native American dress doesn't represent the settlers. We could go on and on about it. The only thing I can think of using is the period dress of the time of George Washington. The time we became a country would be one of the few things people could agree on, and even that isn't perfect.
I don't think the lack of tradition - as you put it - is so grave that we needed to look to a fictional character from a fictional planet for representation. This is just a lazy, low hanging fruit.
Load More Replies...Ok, I'm sorry, but this just looks stupid. This is probably going to get downvoted but that's ok.
If we are talking about the true first people of the Americas, that would be ancient Beringians, 20,000 years ago while Native Americans showed up 14,000 to 17,000 years ago. If you can dig up information on traditional Beringian dress then we might have something authentic.
Why in the world did y'all make fun of the USA like this? This is one of the dumbest things I've seen on the internet today.
I've been scrolling down guessing and anticipating what native dress they'd use for America. So Superman was a big disappointment and almost embarrassing. However, I can only think this was chosen to avoid cultural appropriation as the representative isn't first Nations.
Native American dress was the only option? What about frontiersman? What about a Founding Father? What about a civil war flute player? All kinds of possibilities in addition to a Native costume
Load More Replies...Could have picked pilgrim attire, western/cowboy clothes, even a business suite from any era, but this guy picked Superman? Why not, oh idk . . . Captain America? Smh 🤦🏽♀️
My guess for the US was gonna be a McDonalds uniform. This is so much worse.
I don't think using Native American outfits would have been the right choice, but this one was definitely not it. As if being American on the world stage wasn't embarrassing enough these days..
Why is being American embarrassing now? Oh, I get it. TDS.
Load More Replies...Someone needs to tell this guy that Superman was created by a Canadian
Someone should tell this guy that Superman was created by a Canadian
Oh snap... turns out we don't actually have culture. We have to turn to a completely different planet. XD XD
What a cheap-looking costume. A Halloween costume is representing my home country? And a bad one at that? I don't mean to hurt the dude's feelings, and he's an attractive man, but really? And as to the comment about how a Native American costume might be better, in this case I tend to agree. He does LOOK Native American, but I don't know for sure of course. But this outfit is really terrible. Look at the S? Just terrible. Terrible. ALL the others reflected their cultures. This does NOT reflect mine.
I thought it was funny, but I can understand why Canadians might be upset.
He could have dressed as Lady Liberty, Statue of Liberty, etc.... The US doesn't have strong cultural roots like the rest of the countries because we are a melting pot. However, we have many symbols that are recognized globally that symbolizes the roots the country was built on: liberty, freedom, brave. Why would he choose a character not even from Earth to represent Us?
Superman is the vision of Joe Shuster, a Canadian. Metropolis is another name for Toronto.
We are currently the laughing stock of the world. I guess we need to either embrace it or fix it.
So not impressed by this costume! All the other countries chose something to represent their culture, while this shows a distinct LACK of culture...maybe that's the point? ;-)
Frontiersman, Founding Father, jeans-wearing prospector, Native American, civil war soldier....
Load More Replies...What. The. Actual. F@#k. So many, many options for "traditional" American attire and this is what he came up with???? A costume from a comic book. I just. . . .uggghhhh!!!
It's not even well made!!!! *siiiigggghhhh*
Load More Replies...Superman?! really? You do know he's a fictional hero right? Still ignoring the first true Americans? I would have much rather seen a handsome NDN in a traditional buckskin outfit to superman. too bad such a great opportunity lost
What an insult to our native heritage. This just proves boredpanda is tacky and classless
As a citizen of the states, I find this offensive in a way. All of the other men represent their culture, or where they came from. America's representation looks cheap, wrinkled, and thin. None of our history as a nation is being shown here. This "costume" leads into the argument of "American's have no culture."
I mean... does America really? Nobody ever wants to talk about the actual people that built this nation with blood, sweat, tears, and manacles. We celebrate July 4th, but nobody seems to want to acknowledge Juneteenth. We celebrate columbus day, but not Indigenous People's day. Germany made white nationalist paraphernalia illegal, but in America we still have people screaming that the confederate flag is 'roots not racism'. Americans have no culture other than colonization, un-settlement, and a white supremacist political agenda that can be seen across the globe. Our history as a nation is exactly represented, you described it yourself in your own words as 'cheap, wrinkled, and thin' exactly like the representatives we have in government positions in large quantities.
Load More Replies...Superman is Jewish. This is so dumb. If this is the best the US can do. Ugh. Loserville (in addition to smallville).
Oh wow this means that every man in USA wear their underwear outside 😂😂😂😂
Look at all the pissed off liberals on this thread. Ya'll crying over a f****n picture. Instead of complaining, or creating idiotic ideas that I keep seeing, such as "replacing with a Native American", we should focus on building the American culture. America represents so many cultures/countries. The question becomes, how would we amalgamate every culture into one costume? How do we combine them, so we can show off our unity.....our culture? Native American designs should be shown within it, but not be the whole costume piece. There are other in this country that represent the US. Plus......Native American killed and raped each other.....other tribes. Stole each others land, too. Why do we get so much s**t for doing what they did to each other? We just did it better lol. But for real, their culture is still apart of us. They need to be equally represented in the costume, the same as the British, Swedish, Spanish, African, and other cultures would be. Stop arguing, you damn fools.
Am i the only one that thinks the USA should be shown as fat man watching tv and on his phone
What the actual f*k is this? Whatever happened to Native American clothing?!? This actually annoyed the heck outta me. It look cheap and Its def ill fitted!!
My top 3: Japan, Tunisia, Spain. Worst: USA, Cuba, Sweden, Switzerland and Portugal. All of these guys are hot tho :)
I'm Polish and I felt disappointed with our contestant's costume... And then I saw USA. I'm better now
I'm from Malaysia and i feel the same way too ! Thanks USA!

Oh. My. GOSH. It gets worse... I just searched on YouTube for Mr. Global and found a GEM! An unedited, uncut video of the entire national costume competition portion (which is only 12 min. long but it’s just soooo bad, that it’s SOOOO good that it only feels like it’s 6 min. long) and yes, some of the costumes still look gorgeous but wait till you see how some of your favorites will leave you with your jaw dropped (in a bad “WTF?!?!” way), how some you hated will leave you impressed, and how Superman is Super Embarrassing. The link to YouTube video is in the first reply to this comment:
They went and did a photo shoot with no wardrobe workers? Party shop costumes and then not even a steaming to hide the fact they just ripped open the plastic bag they came in? Some of these costumes are incredible and you can see the time and consideration that went into them and then the others just phoned it in.
Might as well done an Elvis costume over Superman :O. Western/ cowboy would of been better or like army, or clothing from George Washington times.
So Switzerland's 'national dress' is to wear the flag?! And the UK? England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland? How's that work?
The round where the entrants wear national costume or the whole of the pageant?

Load More Replies...I've noticed this trend in western publication and entertainment websites that South Asian representation is almost always limited to India. I mean it's nice you included Nepal but there are so many countries here with such distinct cultures and clothes that you didn't include. Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Iran almost always don't receive the cultural recognition they deserve. I know to Americans it wouldn't make sense but South Asian culture is so much more than India and limiting it to that prototype is something I find uncomfortable. Africa also needed more countries to be represented.
Superman was invented by a Canadian. Just because the USA 'adopted' him as their own, he is still as Canadian as our Beaver and RCMP. And why isn't Canada represented?
For many of these - amazing costuming. They must have a cost a fortune in labour and materials... most of them extremely well put together... Uhh... but... Superman... is a Canadian creation... like Aunt Messy said above... no? Then again... there is no Mister Canada... so...hm.
I thought all the costumes other than USA and Switzerland were beautiful. I enjoyed them all. And being modeled by attractive men! Lovely.
I was wondering how those really elaborate costumes were transported. Those headdresses wouldn't fit in an overhead bin! Would be massively expensive to have them shipped.
Germany would have been fun. Try to picture one of those guys in Lederhosen haha
Lederhosen are NOT the national dress, just Bavarian.

No Pakistan as usual. Why do you people add only India and consider it to be enough of South Asian representation? There is Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Iran etc. All these countries are usually ignored because all South Asian representation is limited to India in western publication.
It's only people who could not enter a "beauty pageant" who have issues with them. Just saying.

In spite of the many negative comments, I liked every one. I assume these are the winners in each country and now they are competing for the Mr. Global title. I am thankful I am not on the judges' panel, having to choose among these beautiful men.
None of them seemed to represent any of their countries accurately. Why stupid superman for USA. Why some Carmen Miranda looking Smoak for Cuba. I have to venture to say that the costumes were artistic concepts but not necessarily accurate but broad in scope in regard to the countries being represented.
There were so many amazing ones in here i really couldn't pick a favorite. You could tell most of them put a ton of effort into them. I would have loved to see this in person.

Actually, maybe USA's national outfit would be shorts and a football jersey.
For those complaining about the USA, you must not know what a touchy subject race/ ethnicity/ cultural heritage is here. This traditional wear contest would just be asking for a s**t storm because we come from all over the world. Mr USA himself doesn't look Caucasian or African American or Naive American. His heritage could be a mixture of any or all or somthing else all together. People not from here automatically think of the three I listed as more indicative of the USA, but that could not be further from the truth. Americans can agree on pop culture for the most part, but we're not at all ready to say who we are as a country.
