‘There’s Nothing Positive About This’: Guy Explains How People Should Not Celebrate ‘Plus Size’ Bodies
What is body positivity actually about? We’ve heard the phrase time and time again, but it can still be confusing what with people continuing to fight over its meaning. One person who’s caused a recent stir on the internet is Taylor, aka TikTok user Nottator_tot2000. In a viral video, the TikToker shared his opinion on what the body positivity movement should be all about instead of what it currently represents. In his opinion, the movement is supposed to be meant for those things that people couldn’t control, like somebody getting burned in a fire, not “a whole bunch of overweight women.”
Taylor’s also expecting a massive backlash for sharing his thoughts. He shared that “the same girls that say ‘body positivity’” are going to see the video and make fun of his [ahem] “just because I said fat isn’t beautiful.” Like you could have guessed, people’s opinions about this point of view were very divided.
Personal trainer, physiotherapist, and the founder of ‘Mes Geresni’ (‘We’re Better’), Paulius Lipskis, gave Bored Panda his take on the body positivity movement, loving ourselves as we are, as well as how to embrace change if we decide that this is what we truly want. You’ll find our full interview with him below.
Taylor shared a viral video where he explained his take on body positivity and how it should be focused on the things that we can’t change, not our weight
Health expert and personal trainer Paulius explained to Bored Panda that body positivity is a very complex subject that depends on the context and each and every individual. The movement (as well as overly obsessing about our health) can be both extremely helpful and potentially harmful, depending on who it is we’re talking about.
“Somebody could potentially use the body positivity movement as an excuse for their unhealthy habits, however, if the movement encourages you to accept and embrace yourself, it’s something that you should strive to follow. It’s also a problem if you view healthy living as something that you’re forced to do. If you’re constantly angry, tired, and you’re low on energy—it’s an issue,” trainer Paulius said.
He reiterated that an honest desire to change can only come from within. You can’t force it. “Usually, our unhealthy habits are a result of constant stress and our behavior that’s meant to protect us from it. If we would have an honest chat with ourselves, we’d clearly see that we’re dissatisfied with ourselves only when we feel that we’re using our bad habits to cover our emotions,” the expert went into detail. “However, if we accept that we’re not perfect, we’re not pressured to change. That’s when you start developing a natural desire and curiosity to find out what the best possible version of you is.”
Eva Wiseman, writing for the Guardian, had an interesting take on body positivity. In her opinion, this movement only increased the pressure and the guilt that people who might be overweight feel. She believes that instead of loving ourselves as we are, we ought to find peace with our bodies.
“While the body positivity movement celebrates all bodies that spill over the waistband of what is currently acceptable, it fails to illuminate the reasons why so many people have such bitter and violent relationships with their bodies to begin with,” she said.
“By skipping those sticky conversations, ones that reach into the offal of politics and families, and the day-to-day existence of being a fat person in the world and instead leaping straight to the friendly hashtag, complete with women detailing their own blessed journeys towards inner beauty, it heaves all responsibility for feeling better about one’s body on to the shoulders of the person within it,” Wiseman writes.
“‘Everybody’s beautiful, and all bodies are perfect!’ said 2019, to a small murmur from those pointing out that the workplace, Tinder, fashion and health professionals disagree. The effect, then, was a feeling of isolation, and a doubling of guilt. Guilt both for living in a body that doesn’t fit and for wanting to change it,” Wiseman explained, suggesting that, instead, we move away from body positivity and toward body neutrality.

“I’m hoping that until the messy little business of restructuring the world in order to find true equality is completed, the message of the next 10 years will be, not to love your body, but instead, find peace with it.”
Nottator_tot2000’s video got more than 2.3 million views, 438k likes, 18.5k comments, and 10.4k reshares on TikTok. Which goes to show that his thoughts reached a lot of people. Some supported him, others criticized him like you could have expected whenever there’s a polarizing topic on the table such as this one.
One of the things that a lot of commenters were dissatisfied with was Taylor stating that “there’s not one disease in the world that prevents you from losing weight or eating healthy.” TikTokers pointed out that there are some rare diseases that do make it difficult to lose weight. However, Taylor countered by saying that ‘difficult’ and ‘challenging’ isn’t the same as ‘impossible.’
In other words, the TikToker’s philosophy is all about effort and dedication. He doesn’t believe that losing weight is easy or that fixing your health is something that happens overnight. In fact, he’s experiencing that first hand. He’s trying to lose weight at the moment.
In Taylor’s opinion, stretch marks and fat rolls don’t automatically make you ‘beautiful’ and he explained that they’re far from the positive things that some people claim they are online.
“You shouldn’t look at this and think, ‘Oh my God, so beautiful,’” Taylor said in the video, criticizing his own body. “There’s nothing positive about this. In fact, it’s negative. It’s hurting my body to be like this. Which is why I’m working out four to five times a week and trying to eat healthy. Cuz I’m not trying to die from a heart attack.”
It might not be up everyone’s alley, but the TikToker was completely honest about his perspective on what the body positivity movement should be about.
In short, he believes that someone’s weight is something that can be changed (however challenging it might be), so being overweight shouldn’t be put in the spotlight online.
Nottator_tot2000 is no stranger to tackling controversial topics head-on, as you can see from his other TikTok videos. Whether you agree or disagree with him, it’s a fact that he’s starting important discussions. And where would we be if we couldn’t discuss important issues? In his spare time, Taylor also streams himself playing video games on Twitch.
Some people were all in support of Taylor’s message that the body positivity movement has lost its way
However, others disagreed and thought that he was projecting his own insecurities
Body positivity means you do not feel bad about how you look. At the same time, it does not mean you celebrate being overweight. If you are overweight, don't hate yourself. Try your best to work towards getting a healthier lifestyle. If you have birthmarks or stretch marks or anything that is beyond your control, do not be embarrassed about it. It is a part of who you are and be positive about it.
Exactly. Its about not hating yourself no matter who you are. Partly to normalise natural things like cellulite or stretch marks but also to not bully others for being under or overweight. Imagine being this uneducated and thinking that you only get stretch marks for being fat. As if growing up and pregnancy arent a extremely common cause.
Load More Replies...Sorry but he is an uneducated, ignorant t****r. There are many and I mean MANY people who can’t help their weight. There are health issues, medications, genetics etc that all play a part. And stretch marks, well news flash dickhead, most women get stretch marks when they are pregnant, that is not an unhealthy reason why the skin stretches. And even slim people can get stretch marks, it can vary depending on skin type and again genetics.
I'm 89 pounds and 5'0, and have stretch marks all along my back. You're absolutely correct. Stretch marks aren't an indicator of being overweight because I certainly am not lmao
Load More Replies...Even if a person needs to lose weight, they should get to feel ok while they do so. It must be easier to work out and take care of yourself if you are happy and don't feel like the whole world is judging you?
As someone who is losing weight for medical reasons, I concur. You know what would have made that conversation with the doctor easier? If the world wasn’t full of people who act like the mistakes I made with my health are worthy of jeering. I absolutely loathe that particular breed of weight lossers who think their lack of self esteem should be transitive to every other overweight person in the world. I don’t know any other fat person’s test results except my own, so I just keep working on my own stuff and voting for parties that will push Jacinda to fund our public healthcare system better so that those who have health problems can easily get advice from a doctor, not some self-hating t****r on the internet.
Load More Replies...Lol agreed...he probably got mad because even the “fat girls” are out of his league and he got his little feelings hurt from being rejected by women he considers beneath him. Poor widdle baby.
Load More Replies...We can't celebrate people thats too fat or too skinny, but also WE CAN'T JUDGE THEM because no one can know what they're going through. They're human beings living their life, and having their own problems.
Thank you. As someone who gained weight while doing my best in a difficult situation, that’s really all I’m asking for.
Load More Replies...Maybe I'm not getting what he's saying but is he suggesting that stretch marks are bad? Should women who have had children or people who had sudden growth spurts not feel good about their bodies?
I believe that is exactly what he is saying.
Load More Replies...Weight isn't always an indication of health. So it's wrong to suggest that if someone weighs more and that they have stretch marks, that must mean they're not looking after themselves. We are all different. Some people will never be a size zero no matter how much they exercise or limit their food intake. The unattainable standards of beauty have led us to think there is only one acceptable form of beauty and that's not true. Body positivity is celebrating our differences and understanding that we don't have to fit the marketable standard of conventional beauty. We are all beautiful.
When people talk about weight, really they are talking about body fat. Excess body fat is an indication of health.
Load More Replies...It must be really nice to live in a world where there are no health issues that might make it impossible to lose weight.
This is the OPINION of a young man who isn't slender or fat, or knowledgeable. His science comes from popular media. Nothing he says is interesting. Why care either way?
This man isn't slender or fat, nor is he a medical expert. This is his opinion based the science published in popular media and his limited knowledge of a weight problem. Many of those who post here understand the issue far better than he does.
Body positivity also means we need to look at health and not automatically think it is linked to weight. Yes in fat white man, obesity is strongly linked to heart attacks. Good for you, but in women? Not as much. Different groups of people have different risks associated with weight, like south Asians have higher rates of type II diabetes and heart attacks at lower BMIs then N. Europeans and African peoples, but why is that? Out BMI issues are based on folks Belgium, not the world, so maybe we need to take a critical look at the data and determine what is real. Like did you know if you are a weight lifter/athlete or have lipedema you can be technically obese, even morbidly so, but not have the health risks? Or that skinny folks can be "skinny fat" and be terribly unwell with atherosclerosis, diabetes, and high rates of cancer? Weight is NOT a direct link to disease. First step to health is not weight control, but critical eyes.
Actually, not entirely true. One of my old friends had a genetic problem, I can’t remember what it was called but it meant she couldn’t lose weight.
I too have a friend that can’t seem to lose weight and she is very healthy. Eats good nutritious foods and is very active. But she suffers from Lymphedema and endometriosis which both effect her weight.
Load More Replies...I have stretch marks because I made two humans. I am proud of my stretch marks, my tiger warrior stripes. After cervical cancer and multiple miscarriages, my stretch marks remind me of love and grace.
Ok.... I think he is incorrect on most levels. There are conditions that stop you from exercising etc and some weight gain literally cannot be helped due to meds etc. Stretch marks are as normal and occur for all sorts of reasons. I agree that obesity (purely from bad lifestyle choices though) is not something we should sugar- coat but, at the same time, we should not shame people for it either. Yes, it is dangerous and unhealthy but so is having your self- esteem attacked which can make it harder to improve. If he meant extra weight purely by lifestyle choice, he should have stated so. If not, he needs to learn an awful lot more (ok he needs to anyway but I mean even more than that) before he goes a- preaching.
You can get stretch marks from pregnancy, not just weight changes. So, it's not actually always under your control. Is it not body positivity then? I tend to disagree with this. The point of body positivity is not to claim that obesity is healthy, it's to promote loving yourself and how you looks like because you don't have another body.
Agreed, we should be careful to not validate unhealthy behaviors, being obese or overweight can cause so many health issues such as lung and heart problems. That said, some people are overweight due to genetics and still healthy. Rather than the type of body one has the conversation should swift towards "are you healthy? Is there something you can do to improve your health?"
"The first wealth is health." - Ralph Waldo Emerson .... and yet, people usually do very little, if not anything at all, to preserve their health and health of their children.
Load More Replies...I think obesity should not be normalised nor supported. People need education about how to have a healthy relationship with food. Granted there's a minority who suffer from weight gain as a result of other health issues but that is to say, the vast majority are obese because they use food as a soothing mechanism and get addicted to it.
This is difficult. If your weight is not to do with being unhealthy eating habits and not exercising then it can be healthy but if it is try to lose weight we don't want someone to die because of their habits.
Speaking strictly for myself, I kind of agree with him. I am an overweight woman, and I absolutely HATE it. I've been thin(-ish) a few times, and I never felt better. And no, not because of some stupid "beauty standard", but because of my own personal taste. However, life happened, and I couldn't keep it up. And as of right now, I don't have the mental strength to start a whole weightloss journey. Maybe in a couple of years. Until then, I will hate everything about my figure and my weakness, and no "movement" will ever change that. That being said, if you are overweight and feel good about it, good for you, I admire that. It's not my place to decide what's beautiful and what's not.
In a way, I do support his message a lot. 'Body positivity' means that no appearance is actually ugly. However it should never be used to justify or support that unhealthy lifestyle is good. Being severely overweight/underweight, having low hygiene, having risky beauty surgeries are nothing 'positive' if they harm your health.
Stretch marks on a mother ARE beautiful. They are permanent marks with deep meaning. There are many who can eat right, work out 4 to 5 days a week, drink only water, and still not lose much weight. There are medical conditions that prevent many from being able to do things to reduce weight or extra rolls or loose skin. THIS is where body positivity comes in. Where you can love and accept your body RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE, even as you reach to improve, or even just move a little bit more - if you can.
Prader-Willi syndrome is a condition that means you cannot stop eating.
Some people get stretch marks when they grow taller. Should they be ashamed of that? Some people have hormonal issues that make it tough to lose weight even when they eat properly and exercise. This guy seems pompous.
Also, women get stretch marks during pregnancy, and I don't think they should be shamed for that.
Load More Replies...I AGREE with this guy. While no one should be made fun for being overweight, I don't think it is something to be proud of. I mean 'seriously ' overweight. Because it's really, really bad for your health.
I agree people should try and be healthy but I don't think he understood what body positivity means very well. Body positivity doesn't support people harming themselves by being overweight. It supports the acceptance of all body types. Besides, people can be skinny and unhealthy too. Many people are underweight because of societal norms and the body positivity movement is also trying to combat that by showing people it is okay to not be stick thin because that isn't what being healthy looks like for everyone.
Load More Replies...He is wrong about there being nothing to keep you from losing weight. Hypothyroidism, hormonal disorders of all kinds, allergies people aren't aware they have to specific foods, meds for things like depression, anxiety and panic. Yeah, he should educate himself before he uses the www for announcing his views of any movement. However, I will say that body positivity has a negative side. People tend to fall in with the general opinion and forget common sense. If you weigh 300lbs and can hardly breathe after walking 5 feet, that is NOTHING to be positive about. It is just as deadly to be that overweight as it is to drive blindfolded. People should teach the younger ones watching that love of self comes from a place of mental well being and emotional strength, not a number on a scale, but at the same time teach responsible, healthy choices that nourish their bodies and help keep all the systems running correctly.
The physical conditions that cause obesity are insanely rare. Not enough of them to account for all the morbidly obese people
Load More Replies...ima keep this short, body positivity is being proud of what you look like not just how you look (ex: skin color, skin disease, etc.) but also being proud of your "shape"
Oh, let me guess, a fat(ish) regular looking guy that clearly doesn't work out (too much) being as frank and honest as it gets with himself, ain't garnering too much love from the ladies around here? Noaaaahhh you don't say....where's the army of "be yourself!" women that flogged the "Normalize Normal Bodies! (of women of course)" post, huh?
Funny that the only thing you think people (or "the ladies" as you put it) could possibly have against this guy is the way he looks. It is not his body that is the problem, dear. It is his spouting untruths such as 'there are no conditions that cause you to not be able to lose weight", and "stretch marks are bad", no one cares about his being chubby.
Load More Replies...Body positivity is NOT about saying that being overweight is healthy. It is to say that we should love ourselves and not shame ourselves for not being like these "perfect" Instagram models. No one is perfect and no one should be.
Wth? Stretch marks can also be caused by growing tall fast in a short time. What an ignorant & entitled ass*ole. Also it is extremely difficult for some people who may have medical conditions to maintain their weight? Also skin condition? How ignorant has Bored Panda even become that this uneducated post has even been created. Low and pathetic
Well... with the stretch marks, I have a bmi of 15 and I have stretch marks on my legs from growing.
Good that he's trying to be healthy, just a small fact, you can be a healthy weight and have stretch marks. stretch marks alone are not a negative thing.
Women often get stretch marks from pregnancy, even if they eat healthy the entire pregnancy. There's no shame with that at all in my opinion.
Load More Replies...It seems like that guy doesn't know much about how bodies work: all sorts of people get stretch marks, whether or not they're "overweight," obviously including pregnant people. Also, some of the healthiest people I know are technically overweight. Weight doesn't always work in a linear fashion. This is just uninformed and arrogant.
Y'all are nitpicking this young man. Listen to understand the message. Which is : use the medical definition of obesity please, not some label involving judgement, in this case, 'beauty'. "Obesity is a complex disease involving an excessive amount of body fat. Obesity isn't just a cosmetic concern. It is a medical problem that increases your risk of other diseases and health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and certain cancers." Just read the mayo health article. Of course medicine acknowledges the factors of genetics and other health conditions. But the bottom line is the same. Obesity is a negative health disease/condition which is preventable or reversible.
No s**t Sherlock, no one is saying obesity is healthy but shaming people for their weight is not right. You have absolutely no idea of the persons situation like a medical issue, medications they take, disability, genetics, mobility issues etc. And shaming people who are obese doesn’t help them, more often than not it has an opposite effect and creates a viscous cycle.
Load More Replies...He’s right. Lizzo is obese. Talented but obese. She isn’t helping young influenced kids to accept themselves she’s instead making them think it’s normal to be huge and probably pre-diabetic, have high cholesterol and can’t run without almost passing out. Because she’s successful, people pretend she’s “inspiring “ and “sexy” because they’re suck ups who want to be around a famous person, if she was not famous and going to baseball games in a thong at 300 pounds, she’d be the (literal) butt of the joke and told to cover her naked huge ass up. She poses in the mirror with a huge brown steak inside her butt cheeks. It’s gross and proves obese people can’t clean as well as someone who isn’t morbidly out of shape. This guy is saying body positivity is about things you can’t help (scars, birth marks, no limbs) not things you did to yourself which you can help and choose not to (shoving a box of Krispy Kreme’s in your mouth isn’t physically or mentally healthy)
Not everyone who is overweight or obese did it to themselves or are lazy and greedy.
Load More Replies...Some people have metabolic problems. -_- My sister in law has trouble due to her gallbladder and can't lose weight. Stop judging people, is it really that difficult?
Doubleheader, people 60, 70, 100 years ago were slimmer and definitely not as diseased as today. Why? There are reasons for that.
Load More Replies..."Body positivity should be focused on things you can't change. Not your stretch marks" Uh... last time I checked, no one can magically make their stretch marks disappear?? Stretch marks happen from being pregnant and puberty as well as gaining weight. He is insanely ignorant omg
So, its not healthy to be obese, k? It will cut your life short. Love yourself enough to take care of yourself. That being said, if you find yourself obese, morbidly obese, don't drown in recriminations and shame. Do what you can to get yourself as healthy as you can for as long as you can. Don't shame yourself (or others) for not achieving the impossible.
Wow I don't like this guy at all.... my son has horrible stretch marks, and guess what he's a twig. He got them because he sprouted over a foot within a few months. so his back is covered in them. I am over weight. Happened when I got pregnant, and no matter what diet I do, no matter how much I work out I can't seem to lose it. Now don't get me wrong, I do NOT want to be pre baby weight. I actually looked very un healthy at that time (but didn't know it) I am slowly starting to lose it now and I'm almost friggin 40 (kids are 19, 16 , 14) but I also know my genetics and everyone on my side is thick, not "fat" just thick. I have had my thyroid tested and everything because I know there's more to it. So we shall see how this goes. But no, not everyone that is over weight is "un healthy" and not everyone can lose it and keep it off. Genetics are huge.
If you don't feel bad about your 200 kilograms it's not body positivity, just stupidity. Forget about bread, pasta, pizza, potatoes and sugar, eat only once a day, eat a lot of unprocessed fat, eat salads, eat pickles, eat cabbage, feel great!
Body positivity over being fat just means your body will test positive for a bunch of s**t.
People get strech marks even from growing fast as kids, most people have some. Dude needs to educate himself before talking dumb s**t on the internet
Body positivity is about accepting that people can come with a variety of health concerns and issues and should be treated as people. It makes no sense to take pride or shame for something that isn't your fault and that includes anything from mental health disorders to diseases, like obesity and some skin conditions and of course the wide range of physical disabilities. You don't praise them, you accept them. You treat people like people regardless of whatever fortune or misfortune they have and you promote health lifestyles and therapies that help them be healthy in body and mind. You don't go around with a mental health disorder and talk about how proud you are of it. But you do let others know that it exists, to educate them on what can and can't be done regarding it and how it functions in your life. Positive movements are about acceptance of people, not promotion of a new ideal or even celebratory, especially not if the condition causes the person suffering, harm or disability.
i was 400+ pounds, I like the body positivity movement. because they offer bigger clothing in stores, for someone who needs to wear clothing to go outside and be active. I wound up getting down to 260, I hate my body so much. I hate myself so much even though I lost so much weight. but now people on the streets dont come up to me while im trying to be healthy and active outside and harrass me cause im still fat (even though I was much heavier, im still overweight by alot) body positivity is about not only feeling better in your body that you are forced to be in, but also telling other people that bigger people shouldnt be harrassed as well.
I don’t think it matters how much you weigh. It only matters of you see yourself the way you want to. If you envision yourself differently find a HEALTHY body positive way to make the changes you want. There is no need for shaming or making yourself feel bad. YOU ARW BEAUTIFUL THE WAY YOU ARE! 😄
F**k this guy. If you are insecure and can't be positive about your body, then feel free to do something about it, but don't push your toxic bs to others.
There are a lot of things that can make weight hard to control, like certain medical conditions and medications. It's simply not easy for some of us to lose weight even though we really want to.
I mean body positivity is important for plus sized too because of eating disorders or even theres people who are skinny who wish they were chubbier or struggle to gain weight some people have conditions that make it almost I'm possible to loose weight just like with gaining it's good to let people learn to live and enjoy there bodies and even if they have a tummy if it's not causing them health problems that they see as reason to change there body then theres a reason it's ok to be fine with where your body is at even if other people dont see it
There are diseases that can prevent you from losing weight. I have an autoimmune disease called hashimotos which causes my body to slowly attack my thyroid gland which is responsible for producing hormones that control your metabolism. Over about three years I put on a lot of weight even though my eating had not changed. Most of the weight develops around your abdomen. Before I was diagnosed, I would stand in front of the mirror, crying my eyes out. The one thing that got me through was body positivity posts/music etc. I agree that this movement should focus on the things you can't control but sometimes you don't know it until you get a diagnosis. The movement can help lots of people going through all sorts. Spread the love x
"Overweight people have right to feel good about themselves." It's not all about rights, it's also about responsibilities not only to ourselves - our health, but also to our responsible fellow human beings, and our surroundings - our planet and all other beings it supports, and what we eat and how much has a lot to do with it. The way you live has either the beneficial or detrimental impact on you personally and on all those around you, the choice is yours.
For the last time -- being overweight is not a moral failing! Quit equating being big with being undeserving of love and respect! This guy seems to think it's a zero sum game, but you can believe that both overweight people and people with genetic disorders and perfectly normal conditions can be loved for who they are on the inside. Really tired of this boy's immature kind of thinking....
It was in 1999, Joe DiMaggio had died and they showed on TV few clips from his games...... and suddenly I realized that all people, professional athletes and fans - the public alike, they all looked slim!!! Why is that? Why people looked different 70 - 60 years ago? Think about it and comment. There's a reason for that, and not just one.
Load More Replies...OMG yet another know-it-all who repeats that "your weight is your fault" and "everybody can lose weight"... While I agree that overweight bodies shouldn't be celebrated (our skeletons simply cannot take it, and our organs suffer from it too), maintaining that it's only related to overeating and laziness is ignorant. Too bad, kid. You're just another one. But I do wish you a healthy journey losing your weight.
And people have died from being bullied and shamed about their bodies. It’s called suicide and eating disorders.
Load More Replies...I was raped by my guardian/ brother when I was a young, innocent 13 year old girl. I never understood why I couldn't lose weight. I tried. The harder I tried, the more weight I gained. I'm older now and realize I was protecting myself. Somewhere inside me I decided the way to keep from being abused was to be fat. Good for me. A part of me loved myself enough to try to protect my body with fat. Idk. I'm still overweight, still working on the pain of his beatings and abuse. But you know what, I decided to love my body. I decided to buy clothes for myself. Yeah spend money to make myself feel comfortable and happy and it felt good. Maybe I'll never lose weight but I will love all of me, broken parts and Al all
I don't see a need to argue semantics over what "Body Positivity" means so I'll just give my two cents (and hopefully not getting napalmed to a crisp). If someone feels how they look currently is a reflection of bad habits, and do something about it. That is what I would consider "Body Positivity". However, if they know what they are doing to themselves is destructive and tries to justify it in some way, then that isn't it. I personally wouldn't criticize since it's their life to live. But that isn't true for everyone, especially when they flaunt it with the "Body Positivity" tagline.
i think body positivity means you should love yourself and thats why you would work to be healthy. if you're healthy but look chubby or something then great we love that for you, but we shouldn't celebrate being overweight/unhealthy yk? as for stretch/birth marks, i think they should be celebrated. I was underweight most of my life and i recently became a healthy weight, resulting in stretch marks. stretch marks dont mean you're unhealthy. i think they look nice actually, i like them.
I don't really think this is very good. I mean, don't celebrate obesity, but then don't get caught up in a cycle of self hate. I think that the best message for body positivity I've seen was from 'The Goddess Revolution' by Mel wells- it was about abandoning damaging diet culture ( like never losing enough weight) and the mindset that goes with it. Don't aim to be overweight, but it's ok for now- exercise if you like it- be nice to your body
This can help: eat to be healthy, not necessarily slim; pay attention how your lifestyle impacts the planet, how big foot print you're leaving behind, don't cause pain and suffering to others, and you will be fine, we all would be fine.
Load More Replies...Food for thought...BoredPanda celebrates this guy (or at least gives him a platform) for shaming himself, but what if he was going after another person? What if instead of pointing at his own stretch marks, he was pointing at a picture of someone else's? I know that it's more "okay" to shame yourself, but he (and everyone who gives him a platform) should remember that when you publicly deprecate yourself, you're deprecating EVERYONE who looks like you.
Lot of fat bastards on here screaming "ITS NOT MY FAULT!!!" ...lol..yeah..it is...
Stretch marks are okay. I have tons of stretch marks including three massive ones across my back. I had no control over growing a foot in a year.
The internet gave a world wide platform to someone who isn’t of age to vote. Just to be clear, Taylor is entitled to an opinion, but it is an opinion. He can say that stretch marks are the result of abusing one’s body. That is not a fact. That is an opinion. The stretch marks that his mother probably has are the result of her body growing to support him. That’s the fact, Taylor.
I disagree with this. He's right in that overweight people (for the most part) can do something about their weight but the problem is a lot more complex than "eat less and exercise more". There are scores of teenage girls who think their body shape doesn't fit the mould of modern beauty standards and they should be encouraged to think that they are beautiful as well.
i am all about unconditional acceptance and respect, not judgement
Its not glorifying being fat. Its not thinking you're worthless or treating people like lesser beings because of their weight which may or may not be in their control. You wanna get fit, wonderful. Not everyone is heavy because of overeating or laziness. Chronic illness, conditions and meds cause weight gain. Judge yourself not others.
Why are we so sick? Why do we have so many chronic diseases? Why are we fat? Think about it. Why people in the past were slimmer and certainly not as diseased as today? It's not how much you eat but what you eat.
Load More Replies...His outburst on body positivity is frustrating. Body positivity isn't saying that people who are in an unhealthy situation shouldn't lose weight. It is trying to make these people more accepted and possibly help them with their self-esteem. Everyone is deserving of love and is beautiful no matter what they look like. However, if you are harming yourself in your current state then you just need to make changes. That doesn't mean that you can't still love yourself. Besides, being overweight isn't the only unhealthy situation you can put yourself in. People can be starving themselves to stay skinny but no one wonders if they're okay because being skinny is the societal norm that we have created. I am not mad at him but I do believe him as well as many others have been misinformed. The body-positive movement was made to help people and let everyone know that everyone is worthy of love and our physical appearance doesn't determine that. We are all human and we deserve to be treated that way
So this guy hates his body and wants everyone to think like him. But unlike most women, his body will not influence whether or not he gets a job, gets a drink from the bar tender, has someone assume he's a b***.... Short of an accident he will never go through the body trauma of having a baby and then face the expectation that he should lose the weight immediately even as he doesn't get any sleep.
