The Internet began talking after a picture of a McFiasco from a McDonald’s outlet was shared on social media.
Conversations stirred up on Reddit after an employee working for the fast-food joint was pictured with a face of pure disgust while the state of affairs behind a sink in the McDonald’s kitchen was revealed. The behind-the-scenes photo captured years’ worth of accumulated filth and mold underneath the restaurant’s mop sink.
While the detached mop sink showed what appeared to be black mold engulfing the base, the disgusted expression on the face of the crew member spoke volumes about how appalling the discovery was to him.

“A crew members [sic] reaction to years worth of disgusting water, food debris and mold build up under an improperly sealed mop sink (the mop sink was literally floating),” read the caption of the post shared on a Reddit group called r/McDonaldsEmployees.
The disturbing image quickly caught attention on Reddit as fellow employees chimed in with their thoughts.
“I can smell that,” one wrote, while another said, “Hard smash.”
“Ew,” said a one-word comment that captured most people’s feelings about the image.

“My same reaction when I saw the top of our ice machine in the kichen [sic],” one Redditor said.
Some people offered explanations for the events that led to the gag-inducing photo.
“Mop sinks either get cracked, or the drain fails. Water ( moldy) will start to collect under, and around it. Big bucks to replace, and sometimes part of the FRP [fiberglass reinforced plastic] and wall need to be replaced too,” one wrote.

“I’ve never seen a mop sink that was removable. I’m just going to assume it was never properly installed, never mind sealed. All of the mop sinks (aka floor sinks) I’ve seen are stone basins. In most cases, stores have some additional flashing installed to help drain water away from the wall and into the sink, but I’ve never seen a fully stainless floor skin. I see and like both the value in it, and the drawback,” another Reddit user explained.
“I think if it’s properly installed, you aren’t necessarily supposed to put a bead of chalk or silicon around the wall flashing, but instead, you’re supposed to regularly clean the walk and the basin in which it sits,” the Redditor went on to say.
