Artist Shares The Sequel Of The Green Mermaid Story That Hit People In The Feels
Interview With ArtistIn 2019, Bored Panda created a post about Andy Ivanov and his illustrations depicting a mermaid that lives in a lake. Well, the artist behind those drawings created a part two to his previous heartwarming story that captured the internet’s love and attention: the dramatic, but sweet love story between a mermaid and a human.
The beautiful story continues after the exciting cliffhanger it left us with last time. Where will the love story of this unexpected couple bring us this time? We decided to include part one of the story, so you’ll know what happened last time if you missed it.
The author told Bored Panda about the first time he started creating these illustrations: “For the first time, I decided to participate in the annual challenge #mermay. I thought it would be interesting to tie pictures into a little story, instead of doing a different mermaid every day. I didn’t expect such a big resonance.”

The artist shared with us how long it takes him to create this story: “One part of 12 frames took me a month and a half. Overall, it could take about a month, but after each illustration, I left a few days to tease the audience.”
Andy Ivanov told us that his style is inspired by Disney, Pixar, and DreamWorks. The main message behind his art is: “Love and respect nature. Do not try to own it.”
The artist also shared with us that part 2 is the last in the series, but he will be sharing some illustrations about the life of this couple in the future, so if you’re interested – follow him on Instagram.
Tell us what you think about these illustrations in the comments! What do you think is going to happen next?

Amen!! Who would love someone who tricked them into captivity??
Load More Replies...The artist's illustrations are gorgeous. I love everything from the colour pallet to how the artist draws the characters. A very beautiful story told only in pictures!
It’s so sad some people can’t just let things exist beautifully like the flower...
I've never imaged a mermaid being in a swamp like area. It's very clever and creative!
Google Hylas and the nymphs it is my most favorite painting ever. I think you might like it too.
Load More Replies...First thing I thought was, okay, this was obviously written by a dude. He deceives her, gets her kidnapped, rescues her, and she immediately trusts him and risks everything for him. She's a complete victim unable to protect herself and dependent on him to defend her. He kisses her while she's dead / unconscious. Absolutely beautiful illustration but a creepy fantasy type story, to be honest.
ikr hahaha. Its the old "kidnap woman, protect woman, woman is a healer not a fighter, and i take the clueless woman to live with me" all really lame and overused tropes that only guys enjoy haha. Big studios wouldnt want to take the story these days, but his art is definitely on par with a studio and is beautiful.
Load More Replies...Beautiful illustrations, but I really disliked the story. This isn't love. This is a man taking everything from a woman. Look at the thumbs up he gives the hunters. He was working with them. Then suddenly felt guilty, after looking at her like an animal in the zoo. Yet he still fails to give her back her former life after taking it from her. Even getting her killed by the hunters he knew was chasing them. Then she gets turned human at the end. This whole story left me feeling gross and bad for the mermaid.
Y’all realize the dude literally got shot for her right? He was wrong at the beginning but was willing to risk his life to save her.
Load More Replies...Beautiful pictures and lovely but sad story. I look forward to seeing more.
She wasn't green in the final frame. Looks like his saving kiss human-ized her...
She wasn't green when she was dying either. she was a blue-gray then.
Load More Replies...I can't wait for the next chapter! Absolutely gorgeous story and art!
This is the first time I've seen this. The artwork is beautiful. I hope to see more of this story, it drew me in very quickly.
Since her skin color changed on the last panel I guess she turned human and they lived happily ever after
We can have MerJune or MerJuly, MerAug, just want to know the ending haha
The story just has overused tropes that mostly only guys enjoy. The old "kidnap woman, protect woman, woman is a healer not a fighter, and I take the clueless woman into my world to live with and rely on me" . Big studios wouldnt want to take the story these days, but his art is definitely on par with professional level and is very beautiful.
In the frame were she's in captivity, the girl with her hands on the glass has Ariel's hair style.
Gorgeous illustrations. But why why why why why does she turn into a human when he "saves" her? You know, the guy who got her killed in the first place. Smh
The illustrations are nice, but I'm not impressed at all with the storyline.
She ends up pregnant and barefoot in a kitchen if we're to follow the logical progression of this.

Reminds me of a scene from pirates of the caribbean when they need a mermaid's tear
