The culture of Africa is varied and manifold consisting of a country with various tribes, each with their own unique characteristics. It is these uniqueness of each tribe or region that draws attention to the overall beauty of Africa . Over the centuries, African culture has meshed with other ethnic cultures from around the world, all the while staying true to their tribal and indigenous heritage.
The type of clothing worn vary from
North to South, and East to West as well as, by religious beliefs and traditional customs. Recognizable colorful Ankara style textiles vary from region to region. Each color , style, symbol and even the shape have specific meaning and purpose. African clothing can be a status symbol or allegiance to tribal roots.
Inspired by the Western Africa region style, our beautiful mom to be wears bright, bold , Ankara print fashion along with a headdress. We also drew inspiration for her creative dress from the earth tones of Africa , from the hues of the soil , the red clay used painting as well as the vast colors desert lands.
The Cultural Maternity Series is a project that four creative women started. Our team consists of a photographer, makeup artist, hairstylist and designer. Together, we research, plan and put our own spin on the chosen culture we are doing. It is about woman empowerment and embracing the culture where they are from and showing off the beautiful journey a mom’s body goes through before having her child.
