This Husky Was Found So Malnourished She Looked Like A Skeleton, 10 Months Later She’s Unrecognizable

Anyone who has ever visited the beautiful island of Bali will know that, stunning as it is, they do have a stray dog issue and it is quite common to encounter street dogs while walking around towns and villages.

While the government has a difficult job on its hands to keep things under control and prevent rabies outbreaks, shelters and citizens take matters in their own hands to give the poor, lost pups the best life they can possibly get. Bali is known for its Hindu faith, and one important figure in Hindu belief is Yudhishthira, a king who had approached heaven with his dog. Because of this, the common belief exists among many Hindus that caring for or adopting dogs can also pave way to heaven. A beautiful example of this is the story of a husky that was found on the street, sore-ridden and extremely malnourished, by the gentle soul that is Rico Soegiarto.

When Rico, 26, first encountered the pup on the streets of Denpasar, she had bald spots, and was so thin you could see her bones through her diseased skin. She didn’t have long left to live. Despite her condition however, her brilliant blue eyes still shone bright and Rico knew that he had to give the neglected pup a second chance. “I don’t know what was special about her,” Rico told Bored Panda. “Its about heart and feeling. I found her when I was on the way back home from work, she was in the middle of the street.”

And wow, what a second chance it was. After carefully nursing the husky back to health, with grooming, pet visits and plenty of good food, Rico shared the results of his beloved new pet’s transformation. It is simply astonishing! Now strong and healthy with a thick, lustrous coat and those same burning blue eyes, the husky clearly adores Rico and cannot keep her paws off her savior. “She loves getting petted and eats plenty of cookies!” Rico told us. “And she is so sociable that she worries me sometimes. There are many thieves in Bali.” She is safe now though with Rico, who has 4 other dogs and is a dedicated animal lover. So what did he decide to call his miracle pup that has survived such hardship? “Her name is Hope.”

What a fitting name!  Scroll down to see the powerful pictures below, and let us know what you think in the comments!

Thanks Rico... This made my day... A lot of dogs thrown everyday in the street of bali, including "the special breed". People throw it because they no longer can't breed. i hate to see husky in bali, the climate is really hot, it is not suitable for them. One of my friend also rescued a husky, and he tried his best to bought air conditioner.

My God, is that really the same beautiful dog? Poor thing, nearly dead and sick and starving. And then a saint came along and saved Hope!! What a great name, too. I would LOVE to string up, starve, and slowly peel all of the skin off of the S****.'s who abandoned this beautiful and loving dog. Some people make me sick, sick enough that it makes me dream about doing unthinkable things to them. A dog cannot save itself--- and humans shouldn't be allowed to live in society if they treat any animal like this! They should be publicly punished, put into stockades in the public square, where people can ridicule them, admonish them, and throw rotten tomatoes and worse at them! Make them eat the stinking dregs out of trash cans, the wet part at the bottom. People cannot do this to animals! It's so damn wrong. I'm sorry if I am coming off as very cynical, but really, this kind of this makes me want to commit atrocities upon them! Thank you to the wonderful man who saved Hope!!!

Just look at how her demeanor changed after a wash and feeding. Just that little bit of attention saved this dog's life. Everybody should have a rescued animal in their homes if they can. The rewards are so much more. Also, animal breeding should be illegal.

Rico, you are such a kind and amazing person to have taken in this poor, mistreated dog and having the love and patience to turn he/she into a gorgeous, happy dog who obviously adores you. I have rescued so many animals over my 68 years and it was obviously my purpose in life. Animals give back much more and in so many ways, though they sometimes break your heart. And don't say you aren't a hero, because you are in my heart!

All the animals that I have had have all been rescues because I believe they are the ones who need rescuing the most. I too wish I could win the lottery so I could open a kill-free animal sanctuary. What you have done for this sweet dog has earned you a place in heaven! Bless you and blessings on everything that you do to help others.

I think, very soon, people that torture, beat, neglect and kill or abandon animals, need to. Stop this, and soon. The times are changing. The number of animal lovers world wide, are increasing, and the abusers and dumpers, will need to watch out. You will, and I mean will, not might, end up on the wrong end of the abuse, or the right end, and get what’s coming to you! You will be tracked down and arrested, and jailed, dined, or better yet, taken away and treated like you treated the animal you were supposed to love and care for! Think about that, for a minute. I might not kill you, but I’d make you naked, and put you ina cage, for a few years, and let you sit in your own filth, not feed and water you properly, kick your cage, pull, your hair out, make you eat dog food and cat food, if you want to live. And you’ll never know me,, and you, will be sorry and changed, for the rest of your life, because like any responsible owner, I’d neuter you, nefore releasing you. Like a dog/ cat.

I’m going to prob get down voted for this, but when I see an animal that malnourished and beaten down, it’s almost best to put it out of its misery. Granted I understand each case is different, but if the creature is in obvious pain I still believe that’s the most moral action. I saw a horse owner in tears put down her mare because of severe colic (twisted gut), but deep down she knew she made the right move.

This is why we all should get a rescue dog, there is NO NEED to buy a do from a breeder, many who do it for profit without thought for the welfare of the dogs. Every country has thousands of abandoned dogs, if you want a dog go to the shelter, you will not regret it as you get so much more love back, but first think about what is involved in getting a dog, if you cant walk it,feed it and love it dont get any dog.

it is devastating to think of all the animals without someone to care for them. But you have at least done something, and if each of us did that no matter how small we could make a huge difference to the situation, Bless you

This is one of the reason I come to this site quiet often it restores ones faith, just a small amount at a time, when some days, faith is hard to find, and if you read very many headlines you know how absolutely horrible this world / people can be. I love the eyes of this dog, literally life was brought back to them.

I adore you! I cant get enough of these stories where man has given back to our sadly abused animals.
