Recently I went to Cartagena de Indias in Colombia. It's colonial-style buildings and colorfully dressed locals reminded me why this city is called "the jewel of the indies".

In this series of photographs, I tried to capture a glimpse of the everyday life of the street vendors that walk these historic streets day and night to provide tourists and locals alike with their wares.

Many of the vendors do not only come from Cartagena and it's surrounding towns. Many actually are refugees from neighboring countries like Venezuela, working hard to provide for themselves and their families.

The idea here was to focus on the vendors and their work as this looked to me like how things would've been in the 1800s. Cartagena's colors for me are a mix of the city's cultural and historical significance mixed with the harsh reality for the people that work these streets nowadays. Hats off to them.

All of the photos are for sale, contact me for details.
