30 Women Who Dared To Get Their Hair Cut Short And Got Awesome Results Thanks To This Hairstylist
InterviewA broad spectrum of haircuts exists today, yet there’s still a lingering opinion that long hair equals femininity.
Galina Totorina, an experienced hairdresser, respectfully disagrees with such a viewpoint. She believes that femininity is not confined to hair length, but is instead a personal expression that can be manifested in numerous ways.
Totorina has created a niche for herself in the short haircuts category, becoming a rather sought-after professional for those desiring this specific hairstyle! Her clients, who appreciate her exceptional skill and creativity, seek her out specifically for these short hair makeovers. That being said, the hairdresser has managed to shove away stereotypes and uses her craft to demonstrate that short hair can be equally, if not more, expressive of a woman's femininity.

Bored Panda took the chance and reached out to Galina Totorina. As we mentioned previously, Galina is a hair stylist specializing in short haircuts for women, and is renowned for her ability to challenge and redefine traditional stereotypes of femininity using her work as an example..
"One day, I realized that to avoid burnout at work, it was necessary to grow and do what I wanted, changing my focus. I tried everything. I cut and colored long hair, but I got bored, I didn't see big changes," Totorina shared with us. She then unintentionally ventured into men's haircuts too, transforming men's looks, participating in mustache and beard contests, and going as far as even securing first places in some. But again, she found herself longing for a change, "Men started grooming themselves and became more attractive, so, I thought that I could give some confidence and create beauty for women with short haircuts."
Galina firmly believes in the power of a haircut to express individuality and confidence, stating that, "The woman herself makes a short haircut expressive. But sometimes it happens that a minor element in the haircut gives it a new look. Everything is individual and needs to be observed!"
Countering long-held stereotypes, she shared that, "Long hair is just a stereotype. Many women cannot properly care for their long hair. They don't have time to even wash their hair sometimes, and dirty hair tied back is not feminine, and definitely not something that could be considered 'well-groomed'." Instead, she emphasized, "Femininity is not in the hair, it's in self-love, in care, and in attitude towards oneself."
Speaking of personal preferences, the hairstylist revealed her thoughts on the matter to Bored Panda too, "I don't have favorite haircuts. I've tried many options on myself to be honest. I had hair down to the end of my back and I was bald at some point too, what I realized is that my favorite haircut is the one that I have right now."
Takes 10-12 yrs off her face, with more confidence and positive attitude. 👏🏼
For those contemplating a change concerning their hair, she suggests starting with a detailed consultation, saying, "Women are often afraid of the unknown. They don't know how they will look. And fear hinders and does not allow you to make the right haircut. With a detailed consultation, fears go away, because you can exactly imagine how you will look." Her parting advice to women considering a short hair transformation was simply to take the leap: "The main thing is to start."
This is really cool. A bit like Essie Davis in Mrs Fishers Murder Mysteries. Let her smile like in the left picture, and everything is fine.
Beautiful in both pictures but she looks younger with short hair 🙂
The hair looks so much healthier and groomed (OMG, I translated this with deepl. It sounds not like words that are meant for women, but for dogs? Me, being German, I meant "gepflegt" like in ... well .. cultivated? Well kept??? Soigné?) It makes a nice difference!
Most drastic improvement seems to come from getting rid of frizzy hair or bad dye jobs. Many before pics would be way better if the hair would get the same amount of styling and care.
It seems like many of these women got the same haircut. Almost as if the salon has a book with only 12 hairstyles to choose from.
Maybe I'm non-standard on my preferences but DEFINITELY like short hair on a woman. Funny how aesthetics differ between people.
I really appreciate how much care was taken to keep the same location, lighting and composition for both pics. So many (most) B & A sets have very different lighting, location, clothing, expression and makeup. It's hard to take those seriously, IMO.
This article should be titled: beautiful women remain beautiful after haircut
The stylist has a terrific eye for colours and shapes that suit the person. Great job!
The thing is: you have to be very pretty to get away with short hair. Without it, there is no more hiding, no more visual deflection.
i'm cutting and dying my hair really soon and i just hope it looks good
I wear my hair short and wish I could find a stylist this talented. The stylist who cut my hair for over 30 years had to retire and even though I now I'm okay with my cut, it's just okay and not as good as it was. Not everyone can do a short cut well.
well, i see the unhappy trolls are out in force, crapping on women's hair. again.
What I liked was the focus was on the new hairstyle so you can see the changes. Too many of these articles include professional makeup and better lighting etc so the after will always look better
This is about the 10th time BP has done one of these to convince women to cut their hair short. The majority of these short styles end up looking like Karens or even Brads. If women want something that's easier to take care of, fine. Or if the OP is aiming for non-binary, that's none of my concern, but that rarely seems to be the case. And sometimes, a short haircut actually puts the focus on some other attractive feature. (My own wife got a pixie cut one while that I thought was quite flattering... so believe me, I'm not opposed to short hair on principle!) But I don't get all these comments, "OMG! She looks so much better!" when in most of these cases, that's either just not at all true, or it's merely the result of some other factor, like make-up, camera angles, simply fixing neglect, or even filters.
So basically one day when I order than now, I can cut my hair and look young again? Is this what a powerful sourcerous feels like? LOL
I think that all look so much better with the shorter styles. I feel the before pics actually show how most women wear their hair today - wash and wear, just so they can shower and blow the stuff dry (or not).
Dared to get a short hairstyle!... kind of funny...every day I see woman who would look better with shorter hair (mine is short) but it seems long hair is a thing whether it looks good or not!
I feel that most of them definitely look better with the new style. I do feel that the before pictures don't look that great because when you are on your way to your stylist, it is on wash day or even past wash day or you just have it in a ponytail. I would love to see a styled before picture vs the after, but still, they look amazing.
Ladies, I love your positive energy in the comments, but ... c'mon now. You're being kinda fake with the endless gushing. Just a little, mind you. Don't believe me? Let's see a feature entitled, ""30 Women Who Decided To Grow Their Hair Out". The before picture is short hair, with frayed ends, not combed / brushed, not styled, no product. The second picture is long hair, freshly cut-and-colored, blow dried and styled. Women in the comments will be saying exactly the same things. "So much better in the second one! She's glooowing!! Her head is held high, she's so confident now!"
Long hair is beautiful, but I have always loved short hair on girls, especially pixie cuts! These are all wonderful!
I love how I looked with short hair, but it's way too much upkeep - you have to get it trimmed all the time to keep it looking good. After I grew mine back out (which is also a pain - so many awkward lengths that requires even more frequent trimming to look halfway decent), I always keep it long enough to be pulled back into a ponytail so I can get a haircut when I feel like instead of when my hair demands it.
The main problem is they fry their hair off into oblivion and continue on with straggly witchy strands, especially the older ones have killed all the health in their hair with bleach and a lack of maintenance cuts
The pictures all seem rather over exposed. Nobody seems to have any skin blemishes, pores or lines on their faces.
I wish I could afford a short cut but I couldn't afford to maintain it ev month.
Ahh, 🥲 I wish I could wear my hair short, too! Wouldn't look good on me though.
I would like to see women of all sizes not just thin women I'm a big woman I didn't see myself in any of those it certainly didn't make me want to jump out and be a rebel and get my haircut, just a thought.
Some fabulous changes but too many androgynous looks here. Not what most women feel great with.

Haircuts are good, but why advertise Russians who did nothing in order to stop the war in Ukraine, which they untied. It is enough to look at the account of this woman, where there are more than 170 thousand users and nothing is written about what they create in a neighboring country where hundreds of people, including children, die every day. You ask, “How do I know this?”, Damn me, I am from Ukraine, so I know very well what has been happening in my country since 2014. Russia is a terrorist country!
